Just someone out there who needs some help

So first me and my girlfriend were talking casually, she brought up the topic of my dad dying and asking if i was okay about it, i had a HUGE! amount of sadness flow over me and wanted to be in silence, of course ignoring her she got quite angry to get my attention she nudged me and bit then started to actually hit me these blows got more powerful till she hit me in the face (she does have anger management problems), i then restrained her but she manged to escape before punching me in the balls, i then hit her lightly in the breast and knocked her over, this is when things escalted, we had a full on fight i tried my best to keep clam and was clam for 99% of the fight and i say 99 because i hit her and knocked her to the ground the hit i threw was enough to knock her down and for her to stop fighting me, i want to ask if what i did was right or wrong, her friends are saying i'm a retard and my friends are saying it was self defense, i have gone to the police to report the incident but wondered if anyone could share their opinion on what happened who was wrong who was right.

so whats happening is i respect girls and everything ive got nothing against them

But every time i read something about womens rights i just get angry, its not like i hate them i mean i have had great relationships with girls (no dates) but i mean it just gets me so angry could someone please help me.

What should i do its just getting to me to much, i don't hate girls, i don't hate women, i keep getting this violent stab could someone please help!!!
