How dangerous is the area around Grand Canyon University in Phoenix?
I've heard it's not very safe but does anyone have specifics? Is it safe enough to drive around, walk around, go to restaurants and stores close by, etc.
1 AnswerPhoenix6 years agoWhat major at Emerson College has the best job opportunities?
I was accepted (undeclared) to Emerson College in Boston and had planned on being a film major. I've always dreamed of being in the industry but now I'm starting to get scared about spending thousands of dollars on a major that I might not be able to find a job in. Is majoring in film worth the risk, or should I change to something a bit safer? I love writing (my main interest in film is screenwriting) so I was considering their Writing, Literature, and Publishing program, but I'm not sure if that will give many job opportunities either.
Any thoughts or opinions will be much appreciated!
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)6 years agoWould this be taking too much time off work?
I am going on a trip in a few days that I got time off work for (12 days total), and I just found out that the college I'm going to be attending in the fall has a welcome day later next month (April 17). I want to attend, but since the school is on the other side of the country I'd need 4-5 days for the trip. Would it be too much to ask for time off when I just got a fairly large chunk of time off work? It's not paid time off and it's just a retail job, but I don't want to push it.
1 AnswerOther - Careers & Employment6 years agoMy teacher did not submit a letter of recommendation?
I've finished all my college applications and most of the deadlines were a few weeks ago. (I submitted all the applications by their deadlines.) But I got an email from one of my colleges saying my application was incomplete; turns out my teacher did not submit a letter of recommendation. I had to ask him through email, not in person since I don't go to the school he teaches at anymore. Should I email the schools I applied to and explain the situation, or just email another teacher and ask if they could please write me a last minute letter?
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)6 years agoShould I include a resume when I apply to Nordstrom?
I'm 19 years old and graduated high school in May, and I'm currently taking a GAP year and need to get a job. I'd really like to work at Nordstrom but on their application there's an option to attach a resume. I don't have a resume and I tried making one but it was extremely short since the only work experience I have is pet/house sitting when I was in high school, and I don't have any volunteer experience or many extracurriculars. Should I leave off a resume or include a short one anyway?
Any other tips for applying to Nordstrom would be much appreciated as well! :)
1 AnswerMarketing & Sales7 years agoIf I apply to a university after one year at community college, do I apply as a transfer?
I'm going to be attending community college this fall and I'd like to apply to universities this fall as well so I could be at a university next school year. Would I just send in a regular application (with high school transcript and SAT scores) or do I apply as a transfer? Since I will just be starting out at community college I won't have grades to put in my application, so I'm not sure how to apply.

3 AnswersDogs7 years agoDo I have a chance to get into NYU as a transfer?
NYU is my dream school but when I applied as a high school senior I got rejected. Now I'm planning on going to community college (SMC) for two years and reapplying there (as well as applying as a transfer to a few other universities). If I do well at SMC, what are my chances of getting accepted to NYU if they already rejected me once?
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)7 years agoHelp with rotation of axes?
~Rewrite the equation in a rotated x'y'-system without an x'y' term. Express the equation involving x' and y' in the standard form of a conic section.
24xy - 7y^2 + 36 = 0
My teacher did a poor job of explaining this section and I have no clue what to do! Any help will be greatly appreciated! :)

2 AnswersMathematics7 years agoIs it a good idea to go to community college before a university?
I'm a senior in high school and my dream school is UCLA, but it's a really expensive school. I heard it would be cheaper if I went to Santa Monica community college for two years and then transferred to UCLA. Is this a good idea?
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)7 years agoCan having an immigrant parent boost college admissions at all?
My dad was born and raised in Poland (he moved to the United States and met my mom, so I've never lived in Poland myself) but one of my friend's parents was giving me advice about college applications and said that having a immigrant parent may help me in some way. Is there any truth to this? And if so is there anywhere on Common App I can mention it (other than the essay)?
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)8 years agoWhat thickness is best for a yoga mat?
I just started yoga and I've been renting mats from the studio each time I take a class, but I'd like my own. The one thing I'm not sure about is whether I should get a mat 1/4" thick or 1/8" thick. I know 1/4" provides more support but 1/8" keeps you more steady. My hands sometimes start to hurt during class but I also hate when I wobble, so I'm not sure which would be the better choice. Or does the thickness not even really matter? I do mostly Bikram/hot yoga if that makes any difference.
3 AnswersDiet & Fitness8 years agoDoes foreign language completed in junior high count towards a university's foreign language requirement?
One of the school's I want to apply to is NYU, but they require three years of foreign language. When I was in 7th and 8th grade I took German (both years counted as 1 year of high school language.) When I got to high school I did German 2 and German 3 in 9th and 10th grade. Do I need to take another year of language my senior year or is this enough?
3 AnswersHigher Education (University +)8 years agoWhere can I find a cheap replacement battery for my MacBook?
I need a new battery for my 2008 MacBook because the one I have now barely holds a charge. The battery costs $129 from Apple and that seems like a waste of money to me since I'll be buying a new laptop next year. Are there any reliable websites I can order a real battery from? I'm afraid I'll get a fake one if I order off of eBay.
This is the battery I need:
