how do I approach former teacher for letter of recomendation?
I bonded with this teacher, who was also my advisor during my first 2 years of college because her husband had passed away (she was a mess) and I was going through my (future) mother-in-law dying. Now a few years has passed and I haven't seen her since b4 I graduated in 07 but I really need a letter of recommendation for law school from a teacher. She's the only one I can really think would remember me enough to give me one. (Other teachers I occasionally do run into and we do a little head nod of acknowlegment, but you know neither of us even remember each others name.) And now I live out of state so just popping by so she sees my face to recognize me isn't easily possible. So how do I approach her to ask for this big favor? phone, e-mail? what should I say?
1 AnswerOther - Education1 decade ago"life goes on, amidst death everywhere." Who said/wrote it?
I heard this line in a movie, but I forget which one. Does anyone remember which movie this is from, or better yet, if it was said/written by someone bigger?
PS. Please help, I am going to be quoting it for my grad school app!
Thanks!
1 AnswerOther - Arts & Humanities1 decade agoHis mouth isn't that big...but his foot is always in it...?
I don't know how to feel or what to say about this. Today, I had two friends (who happen to be related to each other) talk smack about my husband having a big mouth.
This is the sitch: friend "lena" is just separated from her hubby, and he wants to be a secret (cuz he doesn't want it to happen). They moved last year about 2 hours away, so everyone sort of questioned why he was down here for a visit for 2 weeks alone, but nothing was said. A lot of little things put together though made it obvious, her "lonely" and "thinking" pics on Myspace, along with uncharacteristic "love" messages to her from him, along with his page being one big love message overall (wallpaper, pics, music, everything {blah, but I understand}). And little comments like his brother stating "he's in his room." So this morning my husband and I were discussing it and came to the conclusion that they were probably having problems. So "Lena" sent me a photo comment last week and I responded with usual B.S. but
3 AnswersFriends1 decade agorecipe ideas for melted chocolate bars please!?
I accidentaly left a couple of bars of chocolate in a bag in the car and they melted. I have brought them in, and they are now reformed, but since they look wierd, I don't really just want to eat them out right. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do with them? Melt them? Chop them? into what?
ie. what sounds good today?
PS. One was a Crunch bar and the other was a Special Dark!
Thanks for the ideas!
8 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoWhy is he still considered top answerer?
So I am a "top contributior" in Games & Rec, Amusement park. Every time I have logged on looking for quesitons in this catagory, I have seen that Yada Yada Yada is listed as "Top answerer", but yet, I have never seen one of his answers. Ok, maybe I missed some from before, but I checked, and he hasn't answered one question for at least 2 months. So why is he still listed as tops?
I'm not saying that I should be, I think that that honor probably should go to Steve or OC, since I see them answering in this section constantly. But why is a now MIA person still on top. How long does he have to be gone for him to be knocked off. (No harm intended, I'm just tired of seeing his icon on there if he's MIA).

6 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoleaving verizon dsl when moving...what happens to my e-mail accounts?
I'm moving soon, but I have alot of contacts and info in my Verizon.net e-mail address. Does the e-mail go away after I cancel my service and move? (I checked, they are not in my new area)
Should I begin transferring all my stuff to another account that is not with my DSL? (sorry, but yahoo gets so much junk that it makes it impossible to use it for regular use)
Any other ideas for a permanant e-mail address?
2 AnswersOther - Internet1 decade agoDoes anyone know where to get professional help writing a personal statement?
OK, I know this is lame cuz I have a BA in English, but I just can't do a personal statement about me. I think its cuz as an English major we were taught to go on and on and on (and on!) and I just can't condense what is wonderful about me into 1 page and make it look good.
All my friends tell me that I should be able to get a great one since I have achieved so much while facing so many obstacles (I'm not trying to be pretentious, it is what they say) and I have experienced a lot in life, but I just don't know how to put me into words and make it look good.
So, I need professional help (yeah, in more ways than one =p).
If anyone knows who can help me, please share!
Thanks!!!!
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoHow does a 152 LSAT score really look? good/bad?
I was upset that I recieved a 152 on my LSAT (53rd percentile) until I was trolling around here on answers and see everyone with 140's. But then I see others with 160's...
So am I just average, or is 152 sort of on the low end of average and maybe I should retake it (and study more before!)
Thanks!
PS. I have a low GPA due to a personal problem that happened in my final year and I ended up screwing up my GPA from a 3.23 to a 2.77 and can't go back and change it now!
4 AnswersStandards & Testing1 decade agoWhy does my computer freeze when I close a window from Yahoo Answers?
I am not totally computer dense, but everytime I open a window from yahoo answers, and then try to close it, it freezes my whole system. I have to reboot. I can navigate to another page and close the window just fine, but if I am here (sometimes even after being here for hours) I cannot close that window. What is it about Yahoo Answers that causes this? I have no problems in my e-mail or any other pages (usually)!
2 AnswersNotices and Errors1 decade agodata ports while traveling?
I'm going traveling next month and I do have a wireless card on my laptop and know how to look for hotspots, but if I am in a hotel that says it has data ports, what will I need to connect to the internet while in my hotel? Please be real specific, I'm ok at this stuff, but not real familiar. So please expalin what it is if I need a "513" cord or something like that.
Thanks!
Ps. I looked at another question like mine and it said that you need a dialup isp...WTF is that? (I know what dial up is, just how do you do that when you are used to having your own DSL at home?)
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoWhere do I find my IQ score?
I took my cume folder after I graduated HS, and I still have it somewhere here at home. Would this contain my IQ score on it? and if so, where would it be?
I had never dicussed it with my mom before she passed away, but I do believe that it was a standard thing in elementry school in CA back then. (I entered kidnergarten in 1981) I do remember that as soon as I started 1st grade, they wanted to move me up to 2nd grade, but I was never offered honors classes or anything like that, and I really believe I was sort of bored with school and didn't do as well after my mom decided not to move me up a grade. But, who really knows what would have happened??? But if I have access to what they knew then, I would like to know.
Thanks for your help!
5 AnswersStandards & Testing1 decade agoHow many people are planning on taking off work to go to theme parks during the 4th of July week this year?
Ok, so the 4th falls on a Wed. this year, and I am planning on being in Orlando, so I'm just trying to get a feel for how crowded everything is going to be at this time. The way i see it is, since many already get the 4th off, why not take either the 2nd/3rd or 5th/6th off and make it a long weekend for the theme parks, but then again, many may just want to spend the time at home with family. I was planning on doing the parks during the week anyway, but I had failed to realize that it was a holiday and now its screwing with my head that I won't be able to do most of DW or Universal in the 2 weeks I am there. So help ease my worrying. Just a general poll with a yes/no and maybe where your planning to go to. Thanks!!!
2 AnswersAmusement Parks1 decade agoDisney World vs. Universal in July - which is best week to go?
My husband were planning to go in April, and then conflicts pushed it back to early July. And, duh, I just realized that we will be there on the 4th holiday. I am getting a 7 day pass for DW and a 1 week for Universal. Given that the holiday falls on a wed., shoud I plan on doing Universal's 2 parks that week (I am going to plan on avoiding weekends unless there is something I missed during the week). Is 5 days plenty of time for 2 adults w/ no kids to do all of universal in that time? Or am I really missing something if I don't do Disney? I know I am planning on alot of lines at that time, but I'm hoping to try and minimize on that by staying to mid week when not all adults want to take off work just because the kids are out of school. I have done Disneyland in CA for the 4th of July before, and it was alright, but DW might be a whole different experience in crowd wise.
4 AnswersOrlando1 decade agoI'm going to disney world with a disability. What are the rules on the GAC (guest assistance card)?
My husband has severe problems with his legs and cannot stand for long periods. I have done research and learned that you can ask for a GAC card but I have also heard that they are resticted to get. What are the restictions? Do I need to bring a doctor's note since he will not "look" disabled till he is literally crying in pain. He does not need a wheelchair, but our day will be severly cut short if he has to sand in long lines all day. Pease help us get the most from our disney experience. Thank you!!!
2 AnswersOrlando1 decade agowhat kind of a drive is it from Vegas to Laughlin?
I know the map says go the 515 to the 95 and I know each individual area, but I have never driven from one place to the other. What is the drive like? Is it a safe road at night? Is it mainly highway or a road? Is it pretty by daylight?
