  • How does Steam work? How does it stop piracy (if at all)?

I understand that it's a site operated by Valve and it's basically a site where you are able to download their games, but what I'm curious is how that stops piracy (if at all). When you download a game off Steam, you download onto your hard drive, right? So the files are there. What's to stop you from burning the files onto a DVD or pirating it just like everyone else and put the files onto BitTorrent?

I've read that the games you buy and download off Steam are "tied to your account". Does that mean there's a log in process before you can begin playing?

  • Help with PS3 Wireless Internet Connection Settings?

I've been trying to set up a wireless internet connection on my PS3. I go into Network Settings, Internet Settings, etc. etc. I choose Easy and I'm able to detect my SSID and then I enter the password. Once I'm done, it says checking network configuration and then goes straight into "IP Address Settting".

I've tried setting everything to automatic and nothing works.

    Any suggestions?

Also, if I'm to do it manually, how do I find out IP Address, DNS Server, Default Router, and Subnet Mask?

  • Why do American engines need to be so big in order to produce enough power?

American cars have large engines that produce a decent amount of horsepower and torque. However, the Japanese and European cars produce the SAME amount of horsepower and torque but with smaller engines. Why is that?

Is it due to the quality of the engines? Because I've asked a similar question before and the answer I got was because American engines use older technology and therefore have to have a bigger displacement to produce enough power but that the advantage was, the engines were cheaper. Then how are Japanese cars with their smaller engines STILL cheaper than American cars?

  • Why are Japanese cars cheaper than American cars?

I recently asked a question regarding American engines. Why were they so big? The answer I got was that because it was cheaper to produce and therefore, would make the car cheaper as a whole. The Japanese cars uses much smaller engines (2.0L, 2.3L etc.) compared to the ones the American cars use (5.0L, 6.0L, etc.).

Now if the big engines in the American cars were cheaper to produce, it would follow that the Japanese engines would be more expensive to produce thereby making the Japanese cars more expensive.

So my question is this. Why then is it that the Japanese car uses a much smaller engine, able to get a decent amount of horsepower out of it, but STILL make the car cheaper than the American made ones? Bear in mind the Japanese cars have to be imported (some of them anyway).

  • What makes a car able to take corners smoothly?

I've heard many times that American muscle cars are big, bulky, and are good only in a straight line. What aspects of the car (or what would you do) affects the car's ability to go around corners well?

While we're on the subject, what makes a car handle well? I understand that European cars are renowned for their handling. What, then, is the difference between American cars and European cars? Why such a difference in handling?

  • Why do American cars have such large engines?

Why do American cars have such large engines that generate the same amount of power (sometimes less) as a smaller European or Japanese engine? For example, a 2.0L engine in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution generates 400 BHP where as a Mustang would need an engine almost twice that size to generate the same amount of BHP.

I understand that you can add turbochargers and superchargers to amp up the car's performance. The thing I can't understand is why do American engines need to be so big (5.0L, 6.0L, etc.) in order to keep up with a much smaller (1.5L, 2.0L, etc.) European or Japanese engines? Is it because European/Japanese engineers are better? What is it?

  • Why do 4 cylinder cars make more noise during acceleration compared to 6 or 8 cylinder cars?

I've noticed that when I accelerate, my 4 cylinder car makes that kind of..."race car" noise, but on an 8 cylinder it is considerably less noisy. Why is that so?

  • Does having money in a savings account affect the amount of Financial Aid I receive for college?

I'm 20 years old and I'm curious because I don't want to spend all the money I earn or just stash it under a mattress. I'm wondering if there are any viable options available so that I could properly invest the money I earn. I've heard that stashing money in a savings account will affect how much financial aid I receive for college. If that's so, what's the maximum amount I can have in the savings account so that it doesn't affect my financial aid?

It would be best if there was a way for me to invest the money somewhere (savings, roth IRA, etc. etc.) without having to fear that it'll greatly reduce the aid I will get.

  • How is universal health care bad for America?

Some people continually reject and bash the idea of universal health care. I'm curious as to why you reject the idea. And please don't say that it's communist to do so. If you have prejudices against communism, fine but don't think communism is the source of all the world's problems. I just want to know what perspective I'm missing so I can better understand the issue.

  • What basis do people have to say that the income tax is illegal?

I'm curious as to why some people are crying out that the income tax is illegal. On what basis do they found their argument on? What issue is the cause of the confusion? What's the connection between the "illegal" income tax and the Federal Reserve and the 16th Amendment?
