I am the epitome of a jack-of-all-trades master-of-none! I know a little bit about a lot! I love Yahoo!Answers because not only does it give me an opportunity to share my knowledge with others, but I also get to learn something new every day! My main focus here is in animals, especially dogs and horses, and to a lesser extent cats and snakes. I've worked with horses most of my life; I do Eventing, teach riding and (more importantly) stable management and equine knowledge, and I've been a professional groom on the 'A' show jumping circuit. Dog behaviour is a bit of a hobby of mine. I've had dogs all my life, and they are forever fascinating. Training dogs is never boring. You cannot correct a dog's behaviour until you know why they do it, so the knowledge is the key! You'll also find me poking around in mythology, religions, anthropology, or anywhere else I can drop a pearl of random knowledge. I never write answers unless I know FOR FACT the answer, or am speaking from experience.
Can you paint over joint compound without priming?
Here's the deal - I repaired a HORRIBLE mud-job in a room in my house. I've done the entire room with 2 coats of primer, then noticed that some of the repair areas were too rough from the texturing. I sanded those areas down (there ended up being a lot of them!), so in those areas it's likely sanded in speckly spots back down to the compound.
Can I get away with applying my latex paint, or am I going to have to suck it up and go over the sanded areas with more primer?
9 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoWhat's the best way to switch my snake from live mice to pre-killed ones?
I have a 5 year old Kenyan sand boa. I've had her for 2 years now.
My problem is this: she won't eat pre-killed mice. Period. If she doesn't kill them herself she won't touch them. I've tried frozen mice (thawed in warm water), frozen mice dipped in egg, frozen mice with those drops that are supposed to make them irresistible. I've tried getting a live mouse and killing it myself (if anyone knows of a good humane way to kill them that doesn't involve crushing the head [or freezing them and thus dropping their body temperature] I'd love to hear it!) before giving it to her, all to no avail.
I've also tried feeding her in a separate tank from her home, but she shows no interest in the mouse. But if I put her back in her own terrarium and offer a live mouse, she will stalk it, kill and eat it no problem.
So I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions and what has worked for you in the past?
5 AnswersReptiles1 decade agoPorn star or pop star?
I've been seeing an awful lot of people with large star tattoos in various places. This is a specific star - usually blue or red with half of every point in black - like so:

(no, that's not me).

It seems to be a very prolific tattoo in the porn industry (don't ask me how I know this!) so I'm wondering if it's symbolic and people get it either to imply they're porn stars or extremely sexual, or is it just a trendy tat?
6 AnswersTattoos1 decade agoWhere should I put this tattoo?
My next ink is going to be a pretty big one - my horse's name is The Mighty Lightning, and he was my best event horse. I want to commemorate him with a portrait-style tat of him from the shoulder up in a jumping position. There will be a bolt of realistic looking lightning splitting in two above him - half going down his shoulder and the other half arcing around so that it looks like what he's jumping over. The top of the lightning bolt will have the year of his birth, the left branch the year I got him and the right branch the year that he died. It will be on a dark bluish/stormy background.
Where is the best place to put this? I was thinking back of a shoulder, but I'm concerned about my bra strap fading it over the years as it rubs. The other option is between my shoulder blades, but I'm worried that it will look odd sitting in the middle of my back. I'm also worried that a quarter sleeve would look tacky, and I don't particularly want to do the other calf.
Any ideas?

Taylor, Hunter, Carter, Mason, Tanner, Roper, Fletcher...
What are some other ones?
What do you think of naming kids after a profession?
I am NOT considering these for names, personally I think it's silly, trendy and just plain weird to name a kid after a last name, nevermind one that doubles as a profession! Just looking for opinions and the general consensus.
15 AnswersBaby Names1 decade agoBest location for specific tattoo and creative ideas?
Okay, so I already have a couple of tats - left ankle, right calf and small of my back - the rest is blank canvas.
So my questions are - where is the best place to put this (description below)? I was thinking back of a shoulder, but I'm concerned about my bra strap fading it over the years as it rubs, not to mention you'd only even see part of it. The other option is between my shoulder blades, but I'm worried that it will look odd sitting in the middle of my back. I'm also worried that a quarter sleeve would look tacky, and I don't particularly want to do the other calf.
And - for a mural-type piece like this, what's the best way to edge it? I kinda like the idea of just having the dark background blend out, but what are some opinions?
5 AnswersTattoos1 decade agoWill baths hurt my tattoo?
I never really thought about this before because my other tattoos are on my legs and arms. I got a tattoo on my back 4 months ago, so obviously it's long-since healed. I know you aren't supposed to soak healing tats.
I take an obscene amount of baths - at least 4 times a week, and I soak for about an hour each time. I'm wondering if soaking my back tattoo for that long all the time will fade it? It's on the small of my back so it's pretty much submerged all the time. I've looked all over the internet and cannot find the answer to this question!
Thanks!
