  • Best Meda Player, for Music ?

I want the best music player, I don't care about video or whatever else. I'm using windows 7, will go 8 at some point. I've got a big library, mostly 320 mp3 (use across too many devices). I'd like an art-work led browsing experience, Foobar and Winamp just look like geeky teenage boys software, this isn't the starship enterprise y'know. I want to see the faces of my tunes, not dozens of panes with hundreds of ugly skins all to show boring lists

I need it to sync with Ipod and be able to implement as well as read replay gain.

    I've used mediamonkey, it's a close miss.

Obviously I'm not interested in itunes, not a mac hater, just don't care for it.

  • Normalizing for ipod classic... How do you do it?

I've got an ipod, I've spent so long getting my files in order, tagging artwork etc, now it's time to load up. But I know there is a huge disparity in volume across my files, especially those I've ripped myself.

I've googled a lot of info, but it all seems so dated. MP3 Gain gets recommended a lot, but it hasn't been updated since 2007, that sounds prehistoric. Or should I just let Media Monkey do it? Or can the ipod make a decent fist of the job.

As most of the info seems to date from 2008/9, is this a dead topic, is that cos people just put up with the crappy quality and poor choice of streaming services?

Any advice much appreciated, I'm no audiophile, I just want to not have to mess with the volume all the time.

    Cheers

  • can't turn off ipod 160 classic?

Just bought an ipod. I stuck it on to charge and it leapt into life, so it didn't get the preliminary 12 hour first charge. So I tried to turn it off, but it won't have it. I've just pressed and held play/pause, but nothing. After while, the screen'll dim, but it doesn't go black, If I press any button it just leaps back to life. Any advice?

  • Will any wireless LAN dongle work on my blu ray player?

Just got a Panasonic blu ray player and I need a wireless LAN adaptor. The Panasonic one is expensive, and I see others that look to have the same spec that cost a fraction. So will any of these do? Or does it have to be the Panasonic?

  • Set top boxes and flash playback?

I've just bought a blu ray player, mostly to access web video content like iplayer. What happens when flash updates for the tenth time that week? Is this covered in firmware... Does it magically not apply to set top content access?

  • Do you need to uninstall old mouse for new mouse to work?

My old wireless mouse became odd and unstable, so I bought another, I plugged it into the port used by the old mouse... Nothing. I know the port's OK, I'd used a wired mouse in the interim, and other USB things. So I tried another port, bingo: "the drivers for your device...etc". So it's working, but I'd far prefer to use the other port, it's just easier, better placed.

So I was wondering... Is the computer sort expecting to see the old mouse on the port I've been using, or using the old port is in some-way stopping the new mouse from being seen? The mouse is 2.4 Ghz, as was the old one, is that the problem? While I guess it doesn't matter massively, What if this mouse dies? Will I run out of ports in the end and have to get a new computer to get a new mouse?

Windows 7 32bit, windows had been shut-down between the death of one mouse and trying out the new fellah.

  • Cheapest current P/A/S/M camera?

I'm after a real cheapy for a project I have in mind, if it started at 2.8-ish and was a bit on the wide side, so much the better, but all I want is a camera with P/A/S/M, I don't mind if it's menu rather than dial driven.

  • Houseboud photography ideas?

I normally shoot street all day everyday. But I'm housebound since the court ruling... Since the operation I had last Tuesday. And I'm on the verge of going nuts with three weeks to go. So do you have any brilliant photographic ideas that I can try?

I've got most types of film and digital camera and loads of old film cameras I can hack, a small pool of money I can spend on line and I'm bright enough to follow a tutorial. Oh, I've done pinhole before, so preferably not that.

    Any ideas welcome.

  • king of the biscuits?

Which is the king of the biscuits?

I reckon ginger nuts. Hob-nobs are for London ponces who think they're all that, but they're nothing, mouth.

  • Silent Large(ish) Sensor Camera?

I shoot street, mostly with a high end compact. But I do miss my DSLR's, which I've sold, high ISO performance.

I want a small camera with a bigger sensor, that's silent. I'm trying out M 4/3, but I find though quite, still to loud for tight urban environments.

I've narrowed it down to: Leica x1, alot of money for a camera with too many drawbacks. Leica X2, I'm loath to spend that much. Canon GX1, the best I've found but nearly DSLR sized, so... meh. Sony RX1, runs a little rich for what it is. Fuji X100, great, but inflexible lens. Sigma DP series, just too slow for quick off the cuff work.

Any advice, cameras I've not considered?

  • Camera, Bronica SQ-Am Value?

I'm thinking of selling my medium format camera; Zenza Bronica SQ-Am, Body and AE Finder. Any idea on value? I know these have sort of bottomed out, I Know whole rigs go for around £350, but back and lens were donated elsewhere years ago. Condition of body is good, finder is fair, Both function perfectly. I just have no idea, am loathe to sell, but could use the cash, considering I've not used in millions of years.

  • Setting my monitor to display printer profile?

I've just received prints back from the printers for a show. For the most part they're 'right', but some are too dark, I've got back to them, they're happy to reprint and told me they use the fogra 39 profile, CMYK. So I've set up the image and photoshop accordingly. Trouble is, it looks the same as when I sent it off to print. So's it must be my monitor, which is non hardware calibrated. Any ideas? Can I set my monitor up to display as fogra 39 prints, I've checked, it's in my monitor profiles, but I can't figure how to get it to switch to that, or is that something it just wont do?

  • Enlargement for printing, how to get it right?

I'm sending images off for printing, some A3 (420 x 297mm/16.5 x 11.7") some A2 (594 x 420mm/23.4 x 16.5"), all Monochrome. How do I get it right? Resizing, resolution, profiles etc? All my stuff look fine on screen, resized to those dimensions and 300dpi, but can I be sure it'll come back the same way?

    I'm using CS5
