How do I tell the gender of my Mexican black king?

I've been with my boyfriend for a year and a half, and his ex-girlfriend recently requested to be my friend on Myspace (but hasn't friended him, though she did recently contact him online). She sent no message along with the friend request, but I feel like I should contact her in some way. The problem is that I don't know how to go about doing so. I have no interest in arguing with her or getting involved in petty, over-dramatic disputes; I simply am wondering why she has contacted me, considering I never met her (my bf & I were close friends for years before we got together). Any ideas on what to say?
