  • Statics: Finding Reaction Forces in a Beam & Tension of a Cable?

You'll have to look at the diagram in the link to answer this one.

The 20 kg bar has a center of mass at G. If it is supported by a smooth peg at C, a roller at A, and cord AB, determine the reactions at these supports.

I know the reaction at C is 121 N (I thought it was actually 118.9 N but close enough), however I have no idea how to get the reaction force at A or the tension in the cable AB. Anyone care to help out?

  • Should I sell my Mesa + Soldano for an Axe Fx rig? (Electric Guitar related)?

I'm currently seventeen years old, having played guitar for four years. Since then, I've spent almost $8000 on guitar stuff, including five electric guitars, one acoustic, and a couple different amplifiers. I've owned my Mesa Single Rectifier 50w Solo head for about a year now, along with a Soldano 4x12 cabinet, a Line 6 Pod X3, and a couple pedals (NS-2, TS-9, and a 535Q wah).

I've had hard GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) for an Axe Fx + Atomic Reactor Full-Range/Flat Response Active cabinet rig, but to buy it new would be just under $2500 with shipping. Right now I only have a little over $1100, with my bi-weekly income totalling only about $200. I want to get a new rig soon, so I can start recording in high quality with a fairly small setup, so I've been considering selling my current amp, cabinet, pedals and Pod.

For anyone that's made the switch from tubes to the Axe-Fx, what did you notice in particular? For example. did you miss the glow of a tube amp and stompboxes set up all over the place versus a MIDI foot controller and a solid-state processor? I'm not concerned about the quality of tone, but I'm afraid I'll miss the traditional amp setup when I start having to program in every effect, tone and stompbox instead of actually having something physical in the signal chain. Any answers greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Can anyone confirm or derail the Gorillaz breakup?

    http://consequenceofsound.net/2011/02/06/report-go...

They have a cutout of People, and a video of Damon saying at the end of their tour that this may be their last concert. Can anyone tell me this **** isn't happening? Because Damon Albarn is a ******* genius, it'd be a shame to see them go.

  • Recommend me some Post-Rock?

I've recently discovered I absolutely love Post-Rock. The overall chill vibe of it, mixed with the length and evolution of the songs make it amazing. However, because Post-Rock bands are ***-deep underground, the only ones I'm familiar with are Explosions in the Sky and This Will Destroy You. Now I could go sift through a long Wiki list of Post-Rock bands, but I would rather have you guys give me the best of them straight up. Thanks guys.

  • What Do I Need To Record My Guitar Amp?

I have an electric guitar setup consisting of one of my guitars running into my pedal effects (Wah, Overdrive and Noise Gate), then into my Mesa Single Rectifier 50w head (Pod X3 Bean in the FX Loop) and finally into my Soldano 4x12 speaker cabinet that gets microphoned by a Shure SM-57. I want to start mic'ing and recording my Mesa to my computer, but what do I need for that? I couldn't get it to work so that the Pod would process the effects first in Input/Output 1, put them into the signal chain then use the Pod again as a DI Box thing with Input/Output 2, so what else do I need to buy? Is it possible for me to put the microphone's signal directly into the computer, or do I absolutely need a USB port or some sort of other audio equipment think to get a good sound on the computer?

  • How could I develop Metal vocals for the summer?

I've been a metal guitarist for about a year and a half, and I've recently come into a possible band opportunity. We'd probably do something in either Thrash, Death or Prog Metal, or maybe Metalcore. However, we don't have anyone for vocals, and I said I might be able to do it. I'd need to learn for August, when we might play the local music thing here. How can I train metal vocals, for stuff like Prog Metal (Opeth, BTBAM), Death Metal (Arch Enemy or Children of Bodom), Thrash Metal (Exodus, Machine Head) or Metalcore (Bullet For My Valentine or All that Remains)?

  • What should I name my Jackson DKMG guitar?

    It looks like this:

It's used primarily for metal, and it can be either a boy or girl name. Help me out, eh?
