Where to buy computer parts/computers online?
If one wanted to buy computer parts to build their own PC, which site, or sites, offers the best prices overall?
Also, most whole computers sold at the stores are a bit over priced and underpowered. Are there any companies that sell entire "premade" gaming computers that are actually a good deal, or are all "premade" computers overpriced and of inferior quality? I have yet to find a company that makes acceptable gaming computers at reasonable prices.
1 AnswerDesktops1 decade agoColorado: Demoted and Forced to transfer?
A friend of mine was recently demoted and forced to work at a different location. He was at the level of supervisor, and now he will be at the level of customer service representative. I am unfamiliar with state laws in Colorado, but I would like to hear from some informed sources. I will assume if he leaves his position he will not be eligible to collect unemployment. Clearly these people just want him to quit so they don't have to lay him off. The big problem would be that they first cut his pay by 25% (due to demotion) so any unemployment he would receive just got cut down even further should they decide to lay him off later.
It really sounds like they are trying to force him out. What are his options, and does he have any legal protection?
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics1 decade agoChanges to rights of corporations question?
The recent change ruled by the supreme court has made me wonder something, and I haven't found much in my searches over it. The question is about the potential for a foreign person or power having a majority share in an American corporation. To me this would appear to be a very large problem, but my understanding of corporate law is minimal at best.
The reason I felt this was a problem is because now foreign powers or peoples could have a way to funnel their money into changing the U.S. to better meet their needs in a legal way. At this point, a non-U.S. citizen is having a political voice that some may argue is stronger than that of the voters themselves. This isn't technically a violation of the Constitution or anything, but it is definitely beyond the scope of the Constitution. Rights only explicitly stated should be used, but when a foreign power would have the ability to directly influence elections through the guise of a corporation which is now allowed unlimited spending for a political purpose, that is not working as intended.
Can someone correct me if I'm wrong, or tell me if I am on the right track?
2 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoNo idea what I want for Christmas, what should I ask for?
I am 26 years old and my parents are asking me what I would like. They'd rather not get me something as insensitive as a gift card, but I don't know what to tell them! Quick info about me
-Master's student in psychology and I have still have a few years of college ahead
-Spend tons of time on computer gaming/reading/researching
-Have an Xbox 360, but I don't get much time to use it
-Play racquetball, but just bought a new racket recently
I'm sure there is something out there I would like, but currently I can't think of anything. I am trying to keep the gift to around 100 dollars or less. Any input would be awesome--- Thanks!

2 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoTrouble with alfredo?
I am definitely a cooking novice, and I would love some input. I have tried my hand at making alfredo sauce with the following recipe
1 package (16-ounce) fettuccine
1 1/2 sticks butter
1 cup whole milk
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese, Kraft®
Rather simplistic, I know! The trouble I have most of the time is one of two things happens. The first problem I have with this method is that the alfredo sauce will be extremely runny (perhaps too much milk). I try to thicken it up, but in the end, it never seems to turn out right.
The second problem occurs when I get the right consistency, but I loose the flavor. The cheese ends up not adding much flavor, and it just tastes like "buttery noodles." This recipe was taken from Sandra Lee's "semi-homemade." Also the cheese has clumped up severely, but that is due to buying the wrong type of Parmesan.
So I am thinking that I may be buying the wrong type of cheese. Is there a brand that anyone knows of that works for them 100% of the time? I keep trying different ones, but I can't replicate the results of the few times I got this recipe to work out.
Also, if anyone has a recipe as simple as this one please let me know. I am not much of a cook, and this recipe asks me to do so little.
In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook noodles according to package instructions. Drain.
Return noodles to pot and place over low heat.
Add butter and milk to noodles and toss until butter is melted.
Add cheese and stir just until melted.
Remove from heat.
Salt to taste.
Serve immediately.
2 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoCPU usage spiking at 100%?
I am currently finishing my spyware/adware/antivirus checks, and thus far they are all coming up negative.
I got home and tried to wake my computer from sleep mode, but it was not responding. I turned it off, and when I turned it back on, there were red horizontal lines going across it. At that time I rebooted again. This time they were green. So I got to windows and tried to see if I could at least look up the problem online. It quickly became 100% unresponsive.
At this point, I opened up the computer and pulled out the video card, cleaned it up a bit, and I noticed that it was not in the slot 100% perfectly. So, I assumed that is what caused the issues.
I put everything back in, and turned it on. Everything seemed to be running normally until I finally got logged in. I noticed that every 8 seconds my CPU would spike to 100%. And I mean, exactly 8 seconds on the dot. I timed it and it was perfect. In between those times, the computer ran normally.
Also whenever the CPU would spike, everything would freeze for a moment, EXCEPT the mouse. It could move around normally. Most people with the problem I have mentioned will state that their mouse freezes up each time as well. So I am at a loss.
Any suggestions?
5 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoExercise and reinforcing high rates of response?
This was previously asked in the psychology section and uses a few psychological terms, however I tried to make it as straight forward as possible. I was just asking this in this section to see if perhaps you all had any additional insights.
Reinforcing high rates of response is pretty self explanatory. If the targeted behavior occurs at a given rate, it is reinforced. So, the analogy is, "you must swim hard enough to stay above water, but you don't have to swim any harder than that."
So let's say the targeted behavior is keeping one's heart rate above a certain amount during exercise. I'm not good with physiology so let's just throw out the number 140 bpm. So as long as a person stays above 140 bpm during an exercise, they will be reinforced for doing so.
Here are the possible ways to reinforce said behavior at this time.
-Have a TV screen that will only turn on while the BPM is averaging that number. It would be revalued each minute.
-Same method, but music will only be played at that time.
So these things are not really "reinforcing" you. They are classically conditioning you, but not operantly conditioning you. That is, you are learning a paired association between the music and the heart rate, so hearing that music should make you feel the need to exercise. So, as you can see, this is not the best method.
And now the real question!
What is a way we can deliver a reinforcement that would help someone desire to not only exercise, but keep a consistent and good heart rate instead of over doing it, or under working themselves?
Here are my random thoughts- We could have a "scoring system." This system would give them a point for every 30 seconds they maintain the targeted heart rate. Each work out could have a goal which would not be described in a distance, but instead a point total. Because different body types and sizes would need different things, but we can mostly agree that keeping the heart rate up at a certain point based on your weight is key. So this could be a more uniform way of tracking it.
Though, the point system really does not reinforce the behavior very well. I guess you can see how hard it can be do sort this all out, but maybe someone out there has some more interesting thoughts on this.

8 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoHave my degree in psychology, but not looking to counsel?
Long story short, I never have and never will have an interest in my LCDC or professional counseling in regards to mental health. So with that in mind, with my BS in psychology, what should I be looking for. The lists of things I have read are so very vague and in the end seem like something that any college graduate could do.
I wrote papers, I created, I tested, I formulated, I revised, and no one seems to want those particular things. They want people to be the enforcing hand of the corporation (management), or just do menial office tasks that anyone with a pulse and ability to fax can figure out.
I know I am not going to like what you all have to say, for the most part, but maybe someone out there has some advice as to what POSITION TITLES I should be looking for.
