Both seem to be defined as being excessively concerned with small details. Are they synonymous or is there a difference I'm not sure of? For instance, I tend to correct peoples grammar a lot (yes, I know this is annoying), and I tend to be very finicky about unimportant subjects like details about fictional stories and beings. Am I being anal or am I being pedantic?

So at the end of the new Mortal Kombat, there is a scene in which Sindel attacks the Earthrelm defense force while Raiden and Liu Kang appeal to the elder gods. During this scene, Sindel SINGLE-HANDEDLY takes out all ten of her opponents, killing, BY HERSELF, eight of them! She is only defeated because Night Wolf sacrifices himself, taking her with him. Why does she work for Shao Khan? How did Edenia lose to Outworld with such a strong Queen? Why did Sindel kill herself prior to the first game instead of killing Shao Khan? In the same game, Khan lost to one guy, while Sindel killed over half a dozen of the strongest people in the game without batting an eyelash! Come on lady, blow his effing head off with your terrible singing voice! Anyone got an explanation other then "plot convenience"?

I have always wondered this, and even after playing Mortal Kombat 2011, I'm still confused. How can Shao Khan invade Earthrelm? He lost his right to Earthrelm after he lost the Mortal Kombat Tournament in the second game. What the heck does resurrecting Sindel on Earthrelm have to do with invading another relm? I get that it has something to do with her coming back in another relm, but why does Shao Khan get to ignore his losses just because of this fact? It makes even less sense in the new game, since resurrecting Sindel supposedly gave him the right to invade Earthrelm, but he still gets punished at the end even though he was supposed to be taking advantage of a loop hole. Am I missing something, or was Midway just pulling this excuse out of their butts?
