Can anyone who works with horses give me some insight?
(I wasn't sure about the category for this one - sorry)
I've just finished training to be a teacher at uni, I love it and its really great but i'm having a bit of trouble finding work.
While i'm job searching my mind always ends up back on horses and riding and part of me thinks that might be my dream job instead because i'd happily get up early and spend my days working on a yard etc if i could afford to live on the wages.
My issue with this is that teaching is reliable and its good money (enough to live on comfortably) and i feel that seeing as i'm trained for it, i should just do it.
I'm confused about what i should do, and my friends have reminded me that 'there's no money in looking after horses' etc and of course that's a big issue. I also realise that if i stray from teaching then i'll most likely find it hard to get back into that further down the road. I feel that working with horses is what i WANT to be doing more than teaching but i need to choose between the pros and cons for both.
I also have no idea what kinda jobs would be available in horse care. Can anyone help me with possible jobs with horses that I could realistically do and how much i'd earn doing that?
I know there's things like riding instructors but i'd need more qualifications for that, are there any other horsey jobs out there?
I think i'm just looking for as much information as possible on this so that i'll feel better making a decision on it.
To sum up: What horsey jobs are there and how much do you earn doing them?
Any advice welcome!
6 AnswersHorses8 years agoInformation regarding moving to Australia after finishing university course (Primary education) in the UK?
I'm a final year student studying primary education in the UK at the moment. My SO and I are considering moving to Australia in the next couple of years. Being students, we don't have any belongings/commitments here yet so we're thinking this would be the best time to make such a big move.
Before we commit to anything though i would just like to find the answers to a few questions - because as much information as there is online about this kind of thing, none of it seems particularly relevant to our situation so any first hand experience of moving to AUS for teaching jobs would be ideal.
- Is it possible to complete my NQT year over there or do i need to complete it in the UK first?
- What kind of VISA would be best to look in to? Ideally i hope to end up a permanent resident over there.
- How do you go about finding a job? Should we go and THEN look for jobs or try to secure a job before we move?
- What are the house prices/cost of living like there? (looking at western AUS in particular) especially seeing as we'll most likely be using savings to get there and set up.
- What are the schools like regarding class size, resources available, day lengths etc?
Any other information you may be able to provide would be great seeing as we'd like to clear up any worries/concerns about it before making the decision.
