  • DVD drive vs. Thumb drive on a netbook?

Can I sub a USB thumb drive for a CD/DVD for installs? I just got a netbook, and an external DVD drive costs $85 up from what I've seen. Could I instead copy an install CD or DVD to a USB thumb drive and use that to install software?

  • Dodge Ram Oil Pressure Gauge Zero?

    1994 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L V-8 Gasoline

Oil pressue gauge suddenly got erratic, and now spends most of the time on zero, but comes alive once in a while. Engine definitely has pressure, no lifter noise, etc.

    Found pressure sender, disconnected wire.

Wire has 2 contacts. Tried shorting them together, gauge did not move. Shorted each to ground, gauge still did not move. Suggests either bad gauge or wiring between sender & gauge.

Although this test would work on certain makes/models, I'm not sure if it's valid for this Dodge.

Shop wants $150 to replace the sending unit, but wonder if anyone has a better idea before I fork for that... Thanks.

  • 2002 Nissan Frontier stiff steering.?

My '02 Frontier P/U 4WD has VERY stiff steering at low speed, such as backing out of a parking space.

It's like trying to steer with the engine not running. No power assist to speak of.

Once you get any engine RPMs and/or 2 or 3 miles per hour motion, forwards or backwards, it loosens right up and behaves as you would expect it to.

There is no noise from the pump or elsewhere that I can hear.

The fluid is full, is not discolored, and does not smell bad.

I've had the truck since 60,000 miles, and it now has 75,000. The problem is relatively recent, perhaps in the last 5,000 miles. I think it came on all at once, rather than gradually.

    I'd appreciate any guidance.

    Thanks!

  • Nissan Frontier ABS light intermittent?

My 2002 Nissan Frontier 4WD pickup's ABS light comes on when the truck is cold. Usually the 1st trip of the day.

Then after stopping and later re-starting, the light remains out.

Also, if the weather is warm, say above 75 or 80 degrees, it never comes on.

Brake fluid is full, so that's not part of it.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.
