  • Loss of low range/bass in sound system?

I recently picked up a pair of speakers and a receiver from a thrift store, connected them to my record player (through the phono jacks) and my iPod (through one of the aux jacks). When only one channel is plugged in (left or right, iPod or turntable), the sound quality is great. But the second I plug in the other channel, the bass drops off dramatically. Help?

  • No sound when I connect my iPod to my receiver.?

For an unrelated reason, I recently bought a Sony receiver from a thrift store to use an old pair of knee-high speakers. I decided to try and connect my iPod to it, but I cannot get any sound out of it.

Based on the cables I have--I don't have a straight female 3.5mm/male RCA cable--my method is a little convoluted. iPod, then a Male 3.5mm/Female RCA cable, then a Female RCA/ Male RCA cable, then that into the CD In jacks. I've also tried the Tape and Video in RCA jacks to no luck.

If I plug the speakers directly into the iPod (iPod, male 3.5/female RCA into the speaker) it works.

    Any suggestions?

  • Asking for a rent decrease.?

For background, I rent a bedroom in a 6-bedroom house on a month-to-month basis (although it's been over a year now), where all the bedrooms are rented individually by the landlord.

Two weeks ago, the landlord sent my fellow tenants and I notice that he would have a construction crew in the house the next week to convert the shared living room and closet into a seventh bedroom to rent out. Because of this--having one less shared closet and common room, a new roommate to share a bathroom, laundry, kitchen, parking, and bandwidth with, and especially because the new bedroom shares a wall with me so noise is going to be a concern--I feel that a slight rent decrease is in order. However, I'm worried about sounding needy or selfish, or that the landlord may take this as a threat and act accordingly.

Am I right that a rent decrease is in order? If so, how should I go about asking for one?
