  • What is the prestige factor of the University of Guelph?

I completed my PhD in the United States. I was offered a position at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada, and two Universities in the USA. I am trying to decide where I should continue my academic career post-PhD. I have two questions. First, what is the prestige factor (academic only, athletics are of no concern) of the University of Guelph in the Canadian context? Secondly, what is the approximate USA equivalency of the University of Guelph?

  • Can I sue for infringement on my rights?

I want to have the website "mybrother'sname.com". ("mybrother'sname" being my brother's real name, but I would not feel comfortable using his real name here). But, I noticed some one has already scooped it up. They are selling products based upon his likeness, profession, and our family name. The company who currently owns the website is clearly making money off of my brother's likeness. They do not have his first or last name. They are willing to sell us the website address, but for many thousands of dollars. They are making money off of hims and I feel it infringes on the rights of my family!!! Is there a possibility of recourse here?

  • What do you think of this Black Eyed Peas' song "Boom Boom Pow"?

I have historically been a fan of B.E.P. I've attended concerts and I was a fan pre-Fergie and am a fan post-Fergie. I really hate this new song. The lyrics are meaningless. The production quality is low. The music is bad. I'm not a music aficionado or anything, but I curious WHY/HOW any one could like this song, which has been #1 in the USA for 5+ weeks now. Please enlighten me. Why do you like this song?

  • Why can't Houston get the Super Bowl again?

Houston's 2004 Super Bowl was well received. There were no hiccups and Houstonians want the Super Bowl back. This afternoon Houston got passed up for the Super Bowl in 2013. As I understand it, only ownership groups of NFL teams choose the host location for the Super Bowl.

Therefore, can somebody tell me why NFL owners do not want the Super Bowl in Houston again?

  • What is the best way to prolong a banana's lifespan?

I enjoy eating a banana every morning. But, bananas seem to go bad in my house within 4-5 days. What is the best way to keep bananas good as long as possible? p.s. I am already buying slightly green bananas but buying them any more green than I already do would deem them inedible. I am looking for ideas to prolong their lifespan in my kitchen, not purchasing ideas.

  • "Common Knowledge" in academia and Citations?

I am having difficulty deciphering what constitutes "common knowledge" in academia. I do not know what information I need to cite and what information can be regarded as "common knowledge", and thus does not require a citation. Could somebody explain what I do and do not need to cite so I do not accidentally plagiarize? Thanks!
