Renaissance man

Conductor, composer and bassist Charles Gambetta holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is currently on the music faculties of Greensboro College, Guilford College and Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. He has served as Music Director of the Young American Symphony Orchestra, the Greensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra and Assistant Conductor of the Greensboro Symphony, the Fayetteville Symphony and the Philharmonia of Greensboro. In 2008 he was appointed to the faculty of the prestigious International Institute for Conductors in Bacau, Romania. Always in demand as a bassist, he appears regularly with his own jazz trio, the Greg Hyslop Trio, and he has performed with many legends of jazz including Dizzy Gillespie, Jaki Byard, Joe Henderson, Frank Rosolino, Joe Williams, Mel Torme, Kai Winding and Billy Taylor, Larry Young and many others. He is recognized as one of the top bass teachers in the Southeast.
