  • Is MSMA (Monosodium Methanearsonic acid) usable if it froze over winter?

MSMA, a common broadleaf weed killer & very popular in the mid-south - lists on pretty much every Material Safety Data Sheet - to protect from freezing.

I have about a gallon left (from a 2.5gal) from last year that I believe froze solid during the winter due to improper storage management. The actual brand is Trimec Plus with MSMA.

Can the remaining product be mixed & applied to my lawn for weed control? Or does the freezing process destroy the molecular or chemical bonding of the MSMA?

  • Can you identify this southern weed for me? I want to kill them without killing bermuda.?

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n440/bandoslav/... is a weed cluster that has started to spread out.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n440/bandoslav/... is a weed plant that has not yet spread, but about to.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n440/bandoslav/... is multiple weed clusters amongst bermuda. In the background is a border of these weeds.

http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n440/bandoslav/... is a huge cluster of weeds let alone for a month, very tall (24") and I'm holding a seed cluster in front. They don't seed out until they are very large.

General characteristics: very dense & moisture retaining. Easily clogs mulching mowers. Very fast growing, on the order of 1/2" to 1" per day. Very tollerant of full sun to full shade, overpowers bermuda. Roots are a thin cluster.

    Location: Tennessee & Mississippi.

What doesn't kill it: Ortho weed b gone, trimec w/MSMA, Scotts weed n feed, Bayer broadleaf weed killer.

  • Neutered dog still has a pair...?

I just had my english mastiff neutered at 6 months age, brought him home yesterday and was shocked to see he still looked to be fully equiped. We picked him up at the vet closing time, so I was unable to call and ask my question.

He's got stitches on the front of the sac, and he appears a little lazier than normal which I attribute to discomfort.

However - why does he still have a pair? Would my vet have put testicle inserts in without asking me?

I'm somewhat worried that somehow a misunderstanding took place, and he's still fully equipped & willing but will just shoot blanks? Our reason for getting him neutered was to eliminate his urge to mate; to keep him from smelling heat a mile away and trying to get to her.

So...is it common practice today that vets do testicular implants? Or should I call my vet and ask just what went on?

  • Finish mower cutting width v. tractor HP?

I have heard the general rule of thumb for running a rough cut mower (bush hog) is 4-5hp per cutting width foot. i.e. a 4ft bush hog needs 16hp min but 20hp to run optimal.

What is the standard for finishing mowers? I have seen 6ft finish mowers paired with 18hp tractors for sale.

I currently have a 24hp tractor pulling a 4ft hog, and am considering getting a finish mower of the widest width possible with good performance so I can spend less time mowing my 15 acres. I also realize I'd probably have to get some more weights.

  • What kind of goat should I get for property management?

I'm needing some goats to help me clear (and keep clear) dense underbrush & vines (kudzu, blackberry, honeysuckle, etc) but I've no idea what types I should get. The only goats I see for sale in my area (advertised) are show type goats.

I want some animals I won't feel sorry for, and can handle the brutle southern heat & humidity.

Some of the area I need to clear is unable to be fenced - hence the need to clear. I plan on staking down a 50' wire robe, and leashing the goats to that to give them a long run.

Once the area's are clear enough, I'll fence off and use the fence to maintain their location(s).

  • What is the lifespan of a photon, and why must light bulbs continuously produce them to lite a room?

If a stream of photons can travel 4.5 billion years accross the vast spans of the universe, piercing immense dust clouds and being gravitationally warped by galaxy superclusters...

Why does my bedroom immediately go dark when I flip off my light switch? What happens to the millions/billions of photons that emit from the light bulb? They cannot be absorbed by matter else everything would eventually become a light source.
