  • What should I say to my next employer for why I got fired ? ?

I just got fired from a server position at a small business. They said I was fired because they can’t afford to keep me and because I was not trained properly since the server that was supposed to train me quit and with COVID they need all the business they can get. The manager who fired me said most servers last a week, and they all had a meeting yesterday to discuss my employment. They said they like me and I was improving on my skills which is why they kept me so long. The reason I’m concerned is because I’ve only been at the job since December, and because they said I needed to be trained more so I’m not sure what will be thought of me if I explain this to a future employer, and if I should even put the job on my resume.

  • Will collection agencies in Canada contact me for a $500 write off for a credit card I didn’t pay off?

I had a credit card with CIBC, and the debt was $500, but for personal reasons that are unrelated to the question, I couldn’t pay the minimum payments and the bank wrote off the debt and sent it to collections as a “bad debt write off”.

Will the collections agency make a big deal  about the payment and come after me if I don’t pay since it is only $500? If yes, I am not trying to scam the system and would like to know the best way to handle the situation, and if I don’t have to pay should I still pay?

My apologies if this is supposed to be common sense, I’m a new “adult” (19yo) and I have to teach myself everything about credit since nobody prepared me for these issues.

  • Can i ask the creditor to remove a derogatory rating on my credit report if the missed payments were because of a scam? (Canada)?

I had a credit card that i got in 2019 with CIBC with a limit of $500. In November - December of that same year I got scammed which increased the amount owing on the card to roughly $2500 I believe.

Being only 18 and getting less hours at work than was promised, I could not pay that off and missed monthly payments so after explaining the scam situation to the bank, I arranged to put part of the scam debt on a loan of 1000 dollars (which has since been paid off in full) and had $500 left on the card after that and could not make the monthly payments due to poor money management skills as all of this happened when i was 18. Due to continuously missing payments my credit report contains the narrative  “Bad Debt Write Off, Account Cancelled by Credit Grantor with Derogatory Rating”. You can also see that the missed payments started after the scam on my credit report.

Im turning 20 this year, got a steadier job and got financially wiser, if I explain this to them, will they take the derogatory rating off the report? And if i explain to them that i have student loans, have always been in good standing with my other credit card (i only missed one monthly payment on that one), will they remove the derogatory rating?

Also can someone please let me know if “bad debt write off” means i don’t  owe the $500 anymore?

Thanks so much in advance !

  • Is this a good excuse to miss my first day of work?

I’m a university student, it’s Monday December 7 and I have an essay  due today at 11:59 and it’s a huge chunk of my mark, but I have training for a server position from 4-8, and I did tell the guy I can’t work Mondays and Thursdays during the interview becuase I have class.

If I tell him “my ta sometimes has surprise workshops from 5:30-7:30 that are mandatory, and I didn’t think we would have one today because it only happens every so often, so could I come in on Wednesday instead?
