A Block runs into a Spring...?
Hey I have a piece of this problem I cannot solve for some reason. Can anyone help out?
Thanks
A 3.0kg block slides along a frictionless tabletop at 8.0 m/s toward a second block (at rest) of mass 4.5kg. A coil spring, which obeys Hooke's law and has spring constant = 900N/m, is attached to the second block in such a way that it will be compressed when struck by the moving block.
part a) Max compression of the spring I calculated as .36m
Now part b) asks:
What will be the final velocities of the blocks after the collision?
(does this mean after the spring extends again? because I don't understand completely)
1 AnswerPhysics9 years agoWhat is the meaning/message of this poem by Langston Hughes?
Africa
Sleepy giant,
You’ve been resting awhile.
Now I see the thunder
And the lightning
In your smile.
Now I see
The storms clouds
In your waking eyes:
The thunder,
The wonder
And the new
Surprise.
Your every step towards
The new stride
In your thighs.
It's called Africa. Is there a message or theme, or is it just painting a picture of what he sees Africa as?
Thank You!
1 AnswerPoetry1 decade agoCould an i7 720qm run Crysis or Metro2033 on a laptop well?
I'm trying to decide between the i7 720qm (1.6 - 2.8 ghz 6mb cache) or the i7 840qm (1.86 - 3.2 ghz 8mb cache) which costs $600 more!
Also, is the Geforce 360m powerful enough to run those two games (I'm using those two games as standards so my laptop can run new games for the next 5 years or so) or is it extremely recommended that I upgrade to the 285m to keep my laptop future-proof?
Altogether what combination of the 720qm/840qm + 360m/285m will be the best setup to keep new games running on medium settings for some while to come? I also want Crysis 2 to run on the laptop =)
2 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoDual Core vs Quad Core?
I am looking at i7 processors for my custom laptop (not desktop).
Dual cores like the 620m give me up to 3.3 ghz (on turbo) and are cheaper, but quad core such as the 720 give me only up to 2.8 ghz (on turbo).
Would a lower frequency quad-core run a game better than a higher frequency dual core? Or does it depend on the game's optimization?
Which one do you recommend for a laptop I plan to keep for over 4 years from now? I want to be able to run Crysis 2 on it, which will most likely have similar req's to its prequel. Is a quad core worth the extra money even though its clock speed is lower?
6 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoIs a dual core processor still more worth it than a quad?
Now that a few newer games are using quad cores, I wanted to know if getting a quad core is worth it today. I am planning on ordering a custom gaming laptop this week. I can't decide between quad or duo ( i7 or i5.) And why are quad cores clocking at lower speeds than dual cores. I can't find any quads over 2ghz for a laptop.
I'll be using the laptop for college and some gaming - probably newer games like Crysis 2.
Also, is a 1.9 Ghz processor enough (with up to 3.2 overclock speed) ?
1 AnswerOther - Hardware1 decade agoHow were Native Americans and colonists affected by the conflicts between French and English in North America?
(Conflicts during the 17th and 18th century such as the Battle of Hudson Bay.)
5 AnswersHistory1 decade agoWHY did some Native Americans help colonists in North America?
Such as Squanto and Samoset, as well as the tribes that helped the French.
I need to know WHY, not HOW.
11 AnswersHistory1 decade agoWhy is the 360 better than the Ps3?
I always hear people say the the 360 is better than the Ps3 and that Xbox live is better and it has more games.
I never get any real answers as to WHY it is better, and HOW Live is better than the PSN, and WHAT are the games it has.
I have both systems, and XBL and the PSN are both great in their own ways, I like them both the same. Except I like the PSN more because it's free. What makes live better than the PSN? the millions of 10 year olds with mics swearing constantly?
Also, what's the HUGE library of xbox games people talk about? Almost all 360 games are multiplatform, and there are only less than 10 good exclusives: Crackdown, Halo 3, Fable 2, Braid, Gears of War 2, Halo ODST, Forza, and Alan Wake.
L4D, Splinter cell, and Gears of war 1 are on PC.
WHY is it better than the ps3.
All I've ever heard is "Teh ps3 sux. Xbox ownz cuz itz bettr."

My friend has Bioshock, and can lend it to me for a couple weeks or so. Should I sacrifice valuable Killzone 2 time to play through it?
1 AnswerBooks & Authors1 decade agoHow much do you love your Xbox 360?
Let me tell you my story. I was a very enthusiastic Xbox fan (although I did get 2 rrod's). I always thought the Ps3 had no good games and wasn't worth it. I always thought Halo 3 and Gears 2 were the best 2 games every created. BOY, WAS I WRONG!
After getting my Ps3 as a birthday present from my best friend's mom, I was outstanded! I realized how easy and smoothly the Ps3 works: the menu, the internet, the setting up. This made me realize how buggy, glitchy, and clunky the interface and hardware of the 360 was. And the internet was free! I could web browse, buy demos, games, and movies. There's even a Life with Playstation that lets you see world news on a big globe and send processing power to Stanford University at the same time to help study cancer. The store didn't have as many things as the Live Arcade, but it had 50x more quality ones.
So I went and bought a few games: Warhawk, Resistance 2, Littlebigplanet, MGS4, and Super Stardust HD. I also rented Uncharted.
The first 10 minutes of Warhawk were funner than all of Halo 3. Resistance 2 was also fun, not nearly as fun as warhawk, but 100x better than Halo and Gears. Littlebigplanet overwhemed me! I loved it so much. And Super Stardust Hd felt like the best $6 I've ever spent!
Then came Uncharted. I managed to finish it right before I had to return it. It was the best single-player game I'ver ever played! But then came MGS4. The nostalgia and heartwarming story almost put me to tears, for I was a veteran of some of the old Metal Gears. And MGS4 topped Uncharted as my favorite game of all time.
By now I wanted to throw Halo and Gears and my 360 in the trash. I realized how many good games the Ps3 had, and how little the 360 had: Halo, Gears, Halo, Gears, Halo Wars, Gears.......(and everything else is multi-platform)
I always thought that xbox Live was better than PSN. Why did I ever think that?!??! They're both nearly identical, except the PSN doesn't have cursing 12-year olds and constant talking and screaming. And there are no hackers, assholes, campers, N00bs, laggers, or anything on the PSN. And the PSN is free and has Home (which is still in BETA form)
Later, I went on the store and got like 20 demos. I liked Pixeljunk Eden a lot, but my cousin said get Flower. I thought it was some stupid girly gay thing. But I gave in, and I NEVER regret buying it!
Soon, I learned online to make profiles for other countries to get access to their content. I made one for Europe, Asia, Japan, and U.S. Then I got a Killzone 2 demo from the EU store and that demo was better than Halo 3's entire campaign.
And then there's the mind-blowing graphics, motion sensor, Linux, etc.
I used to be like you guys. But boy, I was in for a suprise.
So all you 360 owners out there. Here's my question: do you guys really think the 360 is really the most hardcore, funnest, best online, best games system? Think again! (no the answer is not the gay Wii)
