  • How much aggressiveness in playing is alright?

I have a 6 mth old pug and a 2 mth old beagle. They have started to play together, but I sometimes feel they are getting too aggressive. The beagle will chase the pug, and the pug will run with it's butt low; then the pug will turn around and chase the beagle. They switch back and forth as to who is on top. A lot of growling and barking and there are times that one will get a good bite on the other, no blood is drawn but still I would think it would hurt. And occasionally you'll hear a yelp from one; the other stops at that point, gives a pause, and they start at it again.

I'd just like to know if there are signs when it's too much. When one has had enough, she'll run to me to pick her up. Is the dog playing me for affection or does she really need protection? Because after I pick her up, and both do this, the dog will snap at the other from the chair. That's when I put the dog back down. Thanks in advance for any insight.

  • Crate Training for 9 week old beagle?

My beagle will not stop whimpering at night when she is crated. She is crated only at night and when we are away from home, no more than 4 hours at a time. I just can't seem to get her from howling and whining at night in her crate. She's on a "decent" schedule of 2 am and 5 am for potty breaks, but she will whine for hours once she is put back in the crate. We want her to have the sanctuary of her own room but we’ve can’t continue with the crying all night.

Any suggestions? I’ve tried to put her in the crate for a little time and when she stops whining I’ll let her out, hoping she will learn that the crates not a prison, that hasn't helped. We are also trying to use the crate to aide in potty training, but that’s not working since she will potty in the crate.

Are we trying to train too early? Are we not training the puppy correctly?

Any help or would be appreciated. Thanks in advace.
