  • My Steelseries 7H surround headset is broken. HELP!?

My headset is broken, it started some time ago in the right ear. The sound sound would just stop for a while. But if I tilted my head back and forward, the sound would return. Time went, and it got worse, and one day I just could`t get the sound back on. Since I did not have any other headset, and couldn`t make a lot of noise at night. I kept on using the headset. After a while the other ear stopped working. But by pinching the jack some would get it back. And then.. again.. the sound just completely stopped.

Yesterday I figured I would try to repair the headset myself, since I have no warranty. So I`ve now changed the jack with soldering and I`ve got the sound back on the left ear. But I just can`t figure out the problem with the other ear.

I have taken the jack and wires from some old earphones which came with some phone of mine and cut the wire in half. If I connect the jack to my computer and turn on music, I`m able to get sound through the right ear by holding the wires down at the soldering point on the right ear. (The headset can be taken apart into 3 parts without any tools, the right ear, left hear, and the thing between them that goes over your head.)

So I know there`s nothing wrong with the right ear itself. So it has to be in the wires in the left ear.

I`ve now opened the left ear, finding 4 wires going through and over to the right ear. One copper (GND), one red (L O), one blue (L someting, it`s covered by the soldering.. but it looks like an "I") and a white one (R).

All the soldering looks fine, and I can`t find any place in the wires looking like a breach. So I think I`ll try to just replace the whole wire. But I have no idea whatsoever what the different wires is for etc. And where can I get some new ones?

I`d really appreciate a professional point of view, and maybe some tips.

I`m new to the whole thing, so please try to tell me what you think the problem is etc as simple you possible can.

Sorry for bad grammar etc. I hope I made everything clear.

    Thanks :)
