  • Power Compact Ballast for DIY Lighting?

I am designing and building a lighting system for my 75 gal saltwater aquarium. Right now, I'm just finding the parts I would like to use.

I want to have 2 48" 96W power compact lights in my hood and obviously need a ballast for them. Are there ballasts specifically used for PC lights? Or do I find any kind of ballast that matches the wattage?

  • LED lighting alternative for marine aquariums?

I wanted to have a lighting unit for my aquarium made of LEDs (I know how to do DIY LED projects so that's not the issue). I wanted to know the proper wavelengths for morning, mid-day, and evening colors. Is some UV helpful too? I only need proper lighting for live rock and possibly some macro

  • Power LEDs with Cell Phone Charger?

I was starting to plan a DIY project. It is an ambient light lamp with about 30 to 40 LEDs. For so many LEDs, a DC battery source isn't logical and I was wondering if I could use an old cell phone charger. With the charger (and some EE experience), would I be able to make this lamp? Are there any components I would need besides LEDs and resistors?

  • Max Battery Life for LED Circuit?

I was hoping to connect approx. 40 blue or green (2.5V) LEDs off of a power source (possibly 9V battery). How would I design a circuit of LEDs and resistors to maximize battery life and have an average brightness from the LEDs?

  • Anemone in a fish-only saltwater aquarium?

I have heard it is left to slightly more experienced aquarists to have coral in their saltwater aquariums, but I was interested in starting a saltwater aquarium with anemones.

Is it easier/ just as difficult to take care of anemones in a saltwater tank with some fish in it? (the usual clown or two and some damsels) Do you need the same equipment as a tank with coral?

  • Lionfish question?

I was wakling through a slightly more exotic fish store the other day and saw that they had a Volitan Lionfish for sale. Immediately I wondered, if someone bought this lionfish, how would they get it out of the tank at the store and into the tank at home?

With their spines, I figured it could potentially be dangerous to 1) put any part of your hand or arm in the tank or 2) scoop it with a net as its spine might get caught and hooked up in the netting.

    Anyone have any answers?

  • Excersizes to target the chest?

I am 5'10", 195 lbs. I have been trying to lose some weight just for the sake of it and I am having a hard time trying to lose some fat in my chest.

Right now, I prefer to do power lifting on free weights and some cardio when i go to the gym. I don't want to stop my power lifting, so are there some excersizes that can help shrink the size of my chest?

  • How would I treat driftwood I found?

I've seen online to take hardwood that would not hurt the environment and boil it for about a day (replacing the water to remove tannins). Anyone had any personal experience with some pointers? And if so, what about local aquatic plants too?
