I am going to start a new job (which is a placement year for a university course) and unfortunately the date of my girlfriend's grandma's funeral coincides with my first day. Obviously I want to support my girlfriend but the day is very important to me as well since I need to make a good impression.

I have read in my work contract that funeral leave is granted for near relatives, and since I am not related to her grandma I don't think I have a case.

My girlfriend is upset that I am not going to call them up to see if I can start the day after, but I think that if I do, they will think negatively of me for either looking like I haven't read the contract or don't have a strong case for missing the first day of work.

Even if they say I can start the day after I feel that I will have disrupted plans for inductions etc. which might look bad on me, and I would certainly feel guilty since the previous person in the position is staying on for a month to ease me into the job.

I don't think I am being unreasonable to my girlfriend as she didn't go to the funeral of my aunt by her own choice, but did go to my recent grandma's funeral, and each time I said to her she can go or not and I won't mind.

Should I call up my work and ask or not?

I have been looking all day at various 2.1 speaker systems (this is the most I can get - no 5.1 and no bookshelf speakers etc. too large and expensive for me) and have found these:

They have a very good review on a UK website but I can't find any user reviews (and I have looked everywhere). How would these compare to, for example, Logitech Z-623s or Corsair SP2200s?

The Edifiers look like they would produce better sound due to having tweeters, therefore covering all ranges, but they are quite thin so I am not sure if they would sound tinny despite having reasonable 3" drivers.

When me and my girlfriend try to play a game online through GameRanger, one of us can create a game in the muliplayer menu, but when the other tries to join it nothing happens, we can see the game is there but can't join it. Anyone know how to get it to work?

When opening Internet Explorer, a message displays which says "Website Not Safe" and closes the browser. How can I get rid of this virus? As I can't download avast! due to the internet not working...

I was just wondering because I read on another answer somewhere that it slows your computer down slighty.

It has been like this since i got it fixed about 4 weeks ago (Motherboard died). About every minute, the whole computer slows down for about 5 seconds. This is especially annoying when i am listening to music as it just slows it down about 3 times during it. Anybody know why?
