  • Should drugs be de-criminalized?

    Prohibition against liquor didn't work. If you pass laws on abortion, which I abhor, it drives the practice underground-you don't stop abortions.

    Laws against drugs don't work. There is more drug traffic now that there ever was. If you de-criminalize drugs you get:

    1. 1/2 or the prison population would go free, stopping the need to keep increasing prison space

    2. Government agencies at all levels would be eliminated: federal (DEA), state, and local.

    3. Crime goes down: addicts rob and steal to get money to buy drugs, for the most part-the are not robbing and stealing as a result of being ON drugs.

    4. the cost of drugs goes down

    5. the manufacture, distribution, and sale of drugs is taken away from the criminal element, and go to companies, like liquor is done now.

    6. Graft in government decreases as it is no long necessary to pay politicians to 'turn their heads'.
