Please help..was I in the wrong?
I volunteer registering people during the Christmas holidays for the basket program in the city I live in (free food/toys to needy families). On my first day a girl I know (would say we were more acquaintances than friends) came in to register her family. She had two kids in foster care, but claimed she got them both returned home and gave me their birth certificates as proof that they were with her. After registering her and her family, I spoke a bit to her mother who comfirmed that her grandchildren were living with them (her and the mother of the children) and how wonderful it is.
Later I found out that her children were still in foster care (I personally know the foster parents of one of the children) and asked her sister to verify.
Now the girl is saying that I breached confidentiality. I think she's just mad that she got caught in a lie. Did I? Does it make a difference that I spoke to the mother who reinforced what the daughter said? The mother wasn't there to register for anything and sat in the waiting room the entire time. Her conversation with me took place in a public area.
