Help with telescoping series (not hw)?
ok, i spent way too much time and still can't get this one
sum n=1 to inf of 1/(n(n+1)(n+2))
The answer I think is 1/4
when I solve for partial fraction, I get
(1/2n)-(1/(n+1))+(1/2(n+2))
.....
and that's it....it's not working (*&$%(*^
i went up to the 10th term, and stuff still doesn't cancel..
(1/2-1/2+1/6)+
(1/4-1/3+1/8)+
(1/6-1/4+1/10)+
(1/8-1/5+1/12)+
(1/10-1/6+1/14 )+
(1/12-1/7+1/16)+
....
I don't even see a pattern...
I see that the -1/(odd number) does not cancel out, and that some of the positive numbers get cancelled out, but still...there are two positve for ever negative, and only the even negatives help!
I can do telescoping series with 2 partial with no problem, what am I missing here?
thanks
PS: please reply only if u know how to do this, i don't need answer/work just explanation
thanks
1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoHelp with understanding integrating factors (dumb question, not hw or problem, just concept)?
ok, I'm am blanking out on why
u'(t)/u(t)=ln(u(t))'.....du(t)/dt/u(t)=d/dt ln(u(t)) (same thing, different format)
this is the part where you prove that e^intergral(p(t))dt is the integrating factor
I know this is a really simple question, but for some reason I can't see why it is (ln(u(t))'
thanks

Thanks
1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoQuick question, know how to do it one way and know the answer (log diff)?
Really annoying me....
The question is y=3x^(lnx) what is y'
the answer is (6lnx*x^ln(x))/x
The way I did it was 3e^(lnx^lnx)=3e^(lnx)^2=3e^(lnx)^2*2lnx/x=(6lnx*x^ln(x))/x
but I can't do it using log diff T_T
I did
lny=ln3x^lnx
y'/y=lnx*ln3x
y'/y=lnx/x +ln3x/x
y'/y=lnx/x + ln3/x +lnx/x
y'/y=2lnx/x +ln3/x
y'=(2lnx/x+ln3/x)3x^lnx
The problem is the ln3/x...I don't know why it isn't canceled T_T
plz help !
Thanks!

you know how people complain that Crysis requires a high end computer?
What is considered high end?
I am able to play Crysis at 1680*1050 with all very high setting with NO LAG AT ALL. The computer I built was below $900...
here are my parts:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...
I don't really know what is considered a high end video card, but I have seen 500-800 dollars cards, isn't mine kind of low end?
also, the quad core doesn't really help since Crysis doesn't support quad, so you would get the same framerate with dualcore 3.0ghz right?
I'm just curious to know what games require $500 video cards...
3 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agofirst time building a computer, are this parts good enough?
I building a computer by myself for experience.
I built one before in school, but that's different
I don't really have a purpose for building this, I only want the experience,
I do some video, photo, and music editing
and play some games (Rainbow six vegas, AOE III, BF2, and swat 4)
are these specs ok?
is there anything I need to change?

4 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoquestion about velocity ?
driving your car you are moving at a speed of X m/s forward. You throw an ball sideways out the window at Y m/s relative to you. What is the velocity of the ball relative to the ground?
I used x and y because I don't want the answer
what I need clarified is
when I draw it out should it be a right triangle?
so the answer would just be the sqr of x^2+y^2 right?
thanks

Suppose we make a saline solution by dissolving 176g of salt in 5 L of water. The resulting total volume of the solution is very nearly 5.00L
a) calculate the concentration of the solution, explaining your reasoning briefly.
b) using the result obtained in part a, calculate how many cubic centimeters of solution must be taken in order to supply 10 g of salt. Explain
c) make up a problem which involves the density concept and in which the steps of reasoning are exactly parallel to the steps in a and b above. Be sure to select reasonable numerical values for the physical situation you describe. Present the solution of the problem, explain the steps briefly.
more interested in the steps than the answers...

1.The bay of Fundy is an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean bounded by Maine and New Brunswick on the north and Nova Scotia on the south. It is famous for its high tides. At a dock there, the depth of water is 2 ft at low tide and 58 ft at high tide, which occurs 6h12min after low tide. Draw a graph showing the depth of water at the dock as a function of the time since high tide occurs. Find an equation of your graph.
2. Rework he tide problem above assuming that the first high tide today occurs at 3:00am with a depth of 4.0m, and the first low tide occurs at 9:24am with a depth of 1.8m
3.Suppose that after you are loaded into a Ferris wheel car, the wheel begins turning at 4rpm. The wheel has diameter 12m and the bottom seat of the wheel is 1m above the ground. Express the height h of the seat above the ground as a function of time t seconds after it begins turning.
Please help, show all work, and explain, only reply if you know what you are doing

experiments were done with the reaction 2A+3B=D+3E.
the rate was measured for various concentrations of A and B, in order to find the order of the reaction. The order is the exponent in the rate constant; it varies with temperature and other factors such as the presence of a catalyst. It has whatever units are needed to make the equation work.
a. when the concentration, was doubled, the rate doubled. what is the order of the reaction in A? that is, what is the value of n in the equation above?
b. when the concentration of B, was tripled the rate increased to nine times what is was before. what is the order in B what is the value of m in the rate equation?
c. we would say that the reaction is____ order in A, ____order in B, or____order overall.
d. what would happen to the rate if we halved the concentration of A and doubled the concentration of B?
the rate would_______
for a, I got 1
for b, I got 2
c,d I don't know
please help

first order reactions have a constant half life. That is, there is a particular amount of time after which only one-half of the starting material will remain. After two half-lives, 1/4 remains (1/2times1/2), after three half-lives (3 x t1/2), 1/8=(1/2)^3 remains, and so on.
an experiment started with 64 g of reagent, which was consumed in a first-order reaction. After 90 minutes, only 2 g of the reagent was left.
a. what fraction of the starting material was left after 90 min?_____ This fraction is 1/2 raised to waht power?____How many half-lives does it take to reduce 64g to 2g?____
b. what was the half-life of the reaction?____
c. How much would be left after another 90 min?_____
thanks
PS: if you don't know, don't answer
also, I don't need work, but would like it to be explain so I can understand it.
