I'm looking to obtain a service dog, is this something I can do without family support and help?
I want to obtain a service dog, more specifically a medical alert/response dog that is trained to work with diabetics. I had found a trainer that lives in my state and trains dogs for this purpose and she even found a dog that was close to finishing his obedience training and only needed the specialized training, but I couldn't get help from my family to fundraise for it.
My family seemed to be behind me on the endeavor but no matter how often I brought it up or asked for help with something, I couldn't get it. My parents are extremely busy, and I understand that, but my mother keeps telling me we're going to get one and when I ask her to help me she always says that she'll get to it soon but never does. Now she wants to owner-train a dog when I can't even get her to help me fundraise to buy an already trained dog.
Don't get me wrong, I love my famiy to death, but I don't think they're going to have time to help and I'd like to know how, or even if, I can do this on my own.
