  • What do you think of these?

I just started getting in to photography and would like some feedback on what I've done so far! Any critique would be appreciated. [=

  • Would a 'tobacco' bridle match a 'havana' saddle?

I just bought a horse and now I need tack. I want Pessoa tack but I cannot find anything but a saddle in 'Havana'! Everything is in either 'chocolate' or 'tobacco'. Would either of those be close enough to havana to match?

    Thanks!

  • Riding a New Lesson Horse?

So I've begun riding a new lesson horse at my new hunter/jumper barn, a lovely 18hh bay Hanoverian? named Benz. This was my 6th or 7th lesson there, fourth in the open, grass area. I walked around for a little while to get him warmed up, then began trotting where he kept a nice medium steady pace, listened to my hand, and kept his head exactly where I wanted it. He was responding very well to leg aids, turning as I asked, basically being a perfect little angel.

    ...THEN we started jumping.

First he was fine, we did a cross rail at a trot, a trot in trot out line..a few more jumps at a trot. Then we did the same line at a trot in canter out. Uh-oh. Someone was a little too excited..he did the line in four strides when it should have been 6 (For a normal horse..he could do it in 5 I guess since he's so big...) Anyway so he was getting difficult to stop so I found out I do actually know how to do a one reined stop which is great. He was being very pushy and forward, after some jumps he would even slam his head down to jerk me over. So he was getting hard to stop, very pushy, and wasn't quite as easy to turn as I'd have liked. (He over turned..) He jerked so hard the skin on the fingers on my left hand is rubbed off and my right hand is bruised and swollen to a purpley color.

Anyway, how do I better control this behavior next lesson?

*He is fine in the sand arena he is used to, he hadn't been in that area for three years so he isn't a bad horse, just a bit over excited.

Do you think my trainer is over estimating my riding abilities? As I said, I've only had 7 lessons with him before.. I'd been riding for five years before I changed barns but not really jumping.

So sorry if this doesn't make sense, I'll be happy to clarify if you ask. =]

  • Should I go to this barn or find a different one?

So I was considering going to a barn that someone I know goes to so I wouldn't be the new kid nobody knew. I am questioning the jumpers they turn out though..but I'm not a jumper (yet) so I can't say for sure and wanted your opinion on her position? Here are some pics:

To me it seems that her heel is up and her leg is too far back and sometimes she's ahead of or behind the motion of her horse? Please tell me your opinion, I don't want to learn incorrectly.. (All the girls there look pretty much the same, I only took pictures of her though because I know her.)

  • A lot of question for you guys!?

I am getting a horse in May and have already chosen my tack, I'd just like to have second opinions on the tack I've chosen. =]

    List of tack:

    St. Lourdes Modena A/P Saddle

    Wintec Flash Bridle Without Reins

    Kincade Laced Reins

    Air Formed Elasticized Girth

Curved Sweet Iron Loose Ring Bit

    Wintec Standing Martingale

Wintec Western Trail Saddle Full QH Bars

    1000 Denier Syn-Felt Cinch

    Henri de Rivel Stirrup Leathers

Landa Freestyle Md Wt T/O Blanket

    SLT Cotton Sheet

    Farnam SupeMask II

    SLT Traditional Fly Sheet

    Pessoa Training System

    Wahl Pro Series Cord/Cordless Kit

Also I was thinking about getting a Chambon to help create a better headset and posture for riding. (I'm getting a two year old)

I have an approximate value of keeping a horse for a year including feed, vet, farrier, board, and shavings. What else would I need that I have forgotten? How much do you pay for your horse(s) in a year?

  • Name and equipment color suggestions?

Earlier I posted a question trying to figure out which horse I wanted more but Ive resolved that and now need help with a name and a color for all the tack and such.

The horse I chose is a Gypsy Sport Horse (Gypsy Vanner Friesian cross) who is a two year old gelding to be. He is a very dark bay color with three white socks and a star and snip. He has plenty of feather and is very sweet and a beautiful mover.

For a name I was thinking about either Kryptonite or Tango and maybe black and red tack? I'm open to suggestions on names and good colors for a bay.

  • Which horse should I buy?

Ok, so I'm 99% sure my dad is going to buy me one of these two, but on to the question.

    First horse:

Two year old stallion/colt Gypsy Vanner Frisian cross. He is a darker bay color with three white socks and a star and snip. He has plenty of feather too! If I bought him, I would have to get him gelded.

    Second Horse:

Two year old mare Arabian Gypsy Vanner cross. She is a shadow paint with less feather. She would not need to be gelded, obviously.

Both are from the same farm, have beautiful movement, cost the same, and are 100% sound. I would be boarding the horse at a barn near where I live, ride/work with the horse four or five times a week during the year and likely everyday during the summer. I do understand all the work, I just want advise on which horse you think would be a better choice.

  • Ways to Get a Really Fat Horse in Shape?

We have a horse at the barn that my friend and I are supposed to be getting into good shape over the summer. He has a huge hay belly and is very lazy. He is a full Percheron and yes my friend and I can handle him fine so I don't need handling tips. I just need some ideas of exercise programs I could use for him. Thanks!
