  • Should I retake a course even without grade forgiveness?

I am a recent graduate from a community college with an AA degree. In my final semester at my last school, due to a very terrible situation in my life, I failed a class. I didn't fail any others, and I understood the material, but there were some serious... issues and I wound up with a grade of "F."

This is my only failing grade in my entire college career, and I know that since I have already graduated, the grade is 'set in stone' so to speak. However, I am a Psychology student and I hope to get into grad school -- a failing grade in a Psych class is basically inexcusable.

Should I retake this course (at another school, since my new school doesn't offer it) to show proof on my transcript that I tried to 'make it right' even though I cannot replace/undo the "F"? Or should I CLEP it because a CLEP is offered for the course?

Any opinions and ideas are welcomed. =)

  • What should I do if I can't get a good GRE score? (PhD/PsyD Psychology)?

I can't do math. Like, at all. Like it took me four times to pass College Algebra alone. (Aside from that, I have a good GPA).

That being said, I don't predict I will do even 'average' on the GRE math portion - I have looked at numerous pretests and did not understand a SINGLE question.

Provided I graduate with my BS in Psychology as planned, how terrible would it be if I went into a PhD or PsyD program that does not require GRE scores for admission? ***NOTE*** All of the school I am considering >__ARE___< APA accredited, that's not the issue.

How would having a PhD or PsyD degree from a less reputable but still APA-accredited school affect my chances of landing a stable career later on?

  • Having some trouble with Psych homework - Internal validity?

Anyone understand this? I've been staring at it for an hour and no luck. And there are 9 of these. :(

**Identify the source of threat to its internal validity and describe why you think that

    1. Mary, a psychology student hoping to enroll in law school, was interested in the malleability of people's recollections. She conducted the following experiment. She randomly divided subjects from her volunteer list into an Experimental Group and a Control Group. On Day 1, Experimental Group subjects were shown a videotape of a husband and wife squabbling, after which they answered questions about what they saw. One of these questions was phrased: "Did you hear the profanity?" In fact, the argument did not contain any swearing. On Day 2, they viewed the same videotape. This time the wording of that one question was altered to: "Did you hear any profanity?" Also on Day 2, Control Group subjects watched the videotape and were asked: "Did you hear the profanity?" Consistent with Mary's expectations, Experimental Group subjects' were less likely to recall hearing profanity in response to the second question than to the first question; and, on Day 2, reports of hearing profanity by Experimental Group subjects were fewer than by Control Group subjects. Mary concluded that what her subjects remembered was influenced by how she worded the leading question.

  • Could I, an American citizen, have access to healthcare if I visited England?

I am 21 years old and I have more problems with my health than I can count. I can't work because I'm sick, and I can't get better because I can't make money to pay to get better...

A friend of mine wants to fly me out to visit him in England - is there any way, as a tourist/visitor/non citizen that I might be able to get seen by a doctor in England?

If so, would it cost me anything? How much?

  • Can green food coloring stain your teeth?

My baby brother bought some cheap moutwash (it was clear) but he wanted it to look like listerine (he's an idiot) and so he put like 5 drops of green food coloring into the bottle. I'm afraid now that if he swishes with this stuff regularly, his teeth will stain green. Is this possible? Or am I just being paranoid?

  • Messed up joints, overweight - cardio ideas?

I had lyme disease when I was a kid and my knees and hips especially are in very poor condition. I do NOT swim (I am too embarassed... :( ) and I don't have the money for expensive gym equipment or memberships. Are there any in-home type cardio exercises I can do that wont murder my bad joints? I am aware that the more weight I lose, the less stressed my joints will be. Thanks!

  • Help with a Demonstration Speech?

I've been assigned a Demonstration speech for my college speech class. I was given the topic of Subliminal Messaging.

I'm not exactly sure how I can make that into a demonstrative topic, it seems more like an explanation to me.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance. Best answer = 10pts!

  • Has anyone seen McCain get Barack-Rolled?

Living up to the old tradition of Rick-rolling, someone made a hilariously edited video of John McCain getting Barack-rolled.

My question is legit: Funny or not funny?

  • Agree or disagree? All pro-lifers should...?

All pro-lifers should legally be mandated to adopt twenty children apiece. If you can tell us whether or not to have children, we can tell you. Also, you want all these unwanted babies born? You freaking take care of them.

    Who's with me?

    9 AnswersPolitics1 decade ago
  • This is why I would have an abortion. Do you agree?

All you pro-lifers who insist that adoption, even for rape babies is a good option:

Disclaimer - I'm not speaking for everyone, I'm speaking for MYSELF.

Anyway... if I were to be raped (again) and wind up pregnant, I would absolutely have an abortion. Yes, I would be sad. Yes, it would be hard. But I would do it. Know why?

Because first of all, I know myself. I know that if I carried a baby to term and felt it kick and went through all the pain of giving birth, I'd be connected to that kid.

After giving him/her up for adoption, I would constantly wonder:

    1. Who adopted my baby?

    2. Did my baby get adopted at all?

    3. Is my baby being abused?

    4. Is my baby being taught values that I don't agree with?

    5. How can I be sure that my baby is being properly cared for?

    6. How do I know that someone else is giving my baby the life I never could? Just because you're in a good position when you adopt a baby, doesn't mean the tables could turn.

I would never be able to sleep again. I would never have peace. And the thought of a living, breathing trophy of my rapist would keep me up at night as well.

Thoughts, everyone? I'm really interested in hearing your views. Please try to be civil. Anyone who calls me names or trolls will be reported. The most intelligent, well thought out answer (whether I agree or not) will get my vote.

  • Where to get some unbiased political information for a first-time voter?

    Hi all,

I'm 19 and this will be my first election. WHO I'm voting for is irrelevant to this question (even though if you've been reading yahoo answers, you'd know):

Where can I get some unbiased information about the election and issues? I.E. I know there will be more to voting than just an Obama lever and a McCain lever, right? I mean, there's more we're voting for? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like its my responsibility as a voter to actually know what I'm voting on. (proposition this and something or other that).

(PS: I currently live in Florida.)

  • Illusion vs. Reality in Julius Caesar by Shakespeare.... Ideas?

I have to write a brief two-paragraph "blurb" about illusion vs. reality in Julius Caesar, and even though I really enjoyed the play and am in honors (In college) ... for some reason I just have a blockade up in my head right now and I can't seem to push myself into writing this thing. I know it's short, and it's "easy" but for some reason my brain isn't moving forward right now.

I have to discuss Illusion and reality in Julius Caesar, the play by Shakespeare. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Does this sound like a good plan? LPN, RN, Psych...?

Okay. I've been giving this a lot of thought. If I went and became an LPN (Licensed practical nurse) which takes 9ish months (usually) to do, used that money to move out of this bloody house (A desperate need), from there became an RN (9ish more months) and make better money, and use THAT money to get the Psychology degree that I so desperately want. Ultimately I'd love to be a clinical or counseling psychologist, and I figure, by the time I have all those necessary degrees, I'll also have a lot of medical experience as well as experience with people, and a fallback plan should it not work out or should I change my mind. Input? Does this sound good? Thanks!

  • College - Philosophy, Psychology, Psychiatry....?

I dropped out of High School (it was NOT my choice) and recently got my G.E.D. I'm getting ready to start community college this fall and I was just wondering - in the scope of my interests - what careers could be possible for someone like me. I want to take a Psychology major, but I'm noticing that it's very popular and that the job prospects stink (Even though I'd love to be a therapist). I'm also very interested in Philosophy - however the prospects for that one stink as well. Psychiatry - well, I'd LOVE to be a Psychiatrist - that'd be my dream job - but I don't know if I can handle pre-med, let alone medical school. My other interests are art, music, and English. I don't really know how I could find a job I enjoy with any of this. I can't exactly do art "on demand" per se... I have to be inspired. Therefore 'graphic design' and whatnot would be useless to me. Any advice and wisdom is VERY appreciated!!!
