Are Oxford more likely to take me if I resit A2 levels?
I received my A level results the other day which were much lower than expected:
English: A
French: B
Psychology: B
I missed my offer to study English and French at Oxford because they were so low. I got 3 As at AS so this came as a real shock. I was accepted at St Andrews, my insurance offer, but I really had my heart set on the course that Oxford was offering and I can't believe I came so close and lost it. I'm trying to find a way that I could still study there because I loved every bit about the university and I know that is the ideal place for me.
If I were to try to turn the Bs into As (have a French unit remarked, resit my French oral and my final Psychology module), would they be likely to take my application seriously next year or would they reject me straight away because I'd spent three years on my a levels as opposed to two? In addition, I don't know if I should go to St Andrews this year or not so I need some help making this decision. I'm not sure if I can talk to my school about it because once you have a university confirmed they sort of let go of you; I don't know how to approach them about resitting to get into Oxford. I'd really appreciate any help any of you might have. Thank you.
6 AnswersHigher Education (University +)8 years agoHow do I get an A* in A level?
I've just received my provisional grade for my English coursework (ELLA4). I'm studying English Language and Literature A for AQA. My results so far are:
ELLA1: 80/100 (A)
ELLA2: 83/100 (A)
ELLA3: N/A
ELLA4: 64/80 (A)
Firstly, I don't know what the rules are for getting A*s in A level. Some are saying you need 90% in all modules, some are saying 90% in A2 modules, some are saying it's 90% average UMS score, so I'm a bit confused. Also, what would I need in my summer exam to get an A* overall (if at all possible)?
Thank you in advance!
3 AnswersStandards & Testing8 years agoShould I change my university course choice?
I made my 5 university choices in September, 4 English and French courses and 1 Comparative Literature and French course. The last one was because I wanted to apply to St Andrews but their English and French course was AAA and my predictions were AAB. My careers advisor suggested that if I liked the university I should look for a similar course with lower grades and I came to Comparative Literature.
I've had 2 rejections and 2 offers, one of them from St Andrews for Comp Lit. The other offer is from QMUL, which I don't like, and I'm waiting for Edinburgh, but I prefer St Andrews. I'm wondering if I should tell them that I actually want to study English and French. After my module and resit results in March (straight As) I'm confident that I can get AAA at the end of this year.
Should I contact St Andrews or not? Am I being fussy or would Comparative Literature be better than English? I plan to go into Journalism (Political or Foreign Correspondence) or translation. Thank you for any help.
