  • Windows 7 compatibility issues?

It now appears that a month after the much-heralded launch of Windows 7 that lots of people are having compatibility issues when trying to run certain programmes/devices. Apparently, quite a few are having problems with Windows Live Messenger amongst other things. How good is that? Microsoft bring out a new operating system which doesn't even work with one of it's own programmes! I've been told by three independent sources that Windows 7 will take at least a year before all the glitches are ironed out. Anybody still want to upgrade to Windows 7?

  • Yahoo Answers time lag?

I've just received an email to tell me that my answer has been voted Best Answer. Great! But when I look closer, I see that the question was answered 2 years ago! Yes, TWO YEARS AGO! Sometimes I get a Best Answer email on the same day that the question was asked. So why does it take 2 years for me to be informed?

  • Twitter: posting a reply or sending a message?

Okay, so I have an account on Twitter and I'm logged in. I know that if I want to send a message I type @ followed by the name of the person I want to send the message to followed by the message itself. But do I type it on my home page or on their home page?

  • Real Player downloads in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox?

Right, here is the problem. I have Real Player installed and it is my default media player. I used to be able to download videos from sites such as YouTube, Google video, Daily Motion etc, by clicking on the little box which appears in the top-right of the video saying Download This Video. This little box appeared when I was using either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox. It has now stopped appearing on either of these browsers but it still appears when I use Google Chrome as my browser. Has anyone got any ideas why this is happening?

  • I'm not connected to the Internet?

According to the icon in my status bar, I'm not connected to the Internet. I just clicked on an it's asking me to connect to a network. But I'm here! I can still go to any page on the internet with no problem, google search stuff etc, watch youtube, sign into facebook and myspace. In fact, everything works. So how come I'm still able to access everything when I'm not connected?

  • Windows Installer problem.?

Just recently I have been having problems when I want to either install or uninstall programmes on my computers (one laptop and one PC). I keep getting a message telling me that Windows Installer is not working. I can't install any new programmes or uninstall programmes that I already have. I've looked on the Microsoft website for help but they only give advice for computers running either Windows 2000 or Windows XP, not Windows Vista, which is what I'm using. Anybody got any ideas on how to sort this out. I can't even find Windows Installer listed on my list of installed programmes.

  • Mobile phone plans in the UK?

Which is the best mobile phone plan in the UK which DOES NOT INCLUDE TEXTS. I'm old-fashioned when it comes to phones and will only use one for sending and receiving calls. I never send texts and any that are sent to me are deleted unread. So I'm looking for a good phone plan which is for CALLS ONLY. Again, I'm not interested in free texts, only cheap calls.

  • Acer Aspire webcam problem?

Okay, so I have an Acer Aspire laptop with a built-in webcam. The cam used to work just fine on any chat application (MSN or Yahoo Messenger, Paltalk, etc) but now when I click on the icon to start the webcam, the light next to the cam comes on but I either get a message saying that the cam is busy or a message telling me to plug the webcam into a USB socket. (How do you plug a built-in cam into a USB socket anyway?) Also, how do I end a process, e.g. end a running programme because the webcam light stays on (so the programme is obviously still running) and there is no manual option for this. Thanks in advance.

  • Contracted working hours?

If someone is contracted to work a 7-hour day, 35 week, can an employer then make that person work a 12-hour day and give them an extra day off during the week in lieu to balance the hours?

  • Internet Explorer 8 Beta?

During a recent update my Internet Explorer automatically updated from IE7 to IE8. And now it is taking ages to load. IE7 loaded in about 10 seconds on average. IE8 is taking nearly 2 minutes! Once it has loaded, though, everything works just fine. It's just the taking so long to load that I find annoying. I've tried to go back to IE7 but whatever I try I keep getting error messages and I can't removed Internet Explorer completely and start again because it's not showing up in my Add/Remove Program in the Control Panel.

P.S. Before anyone says use Mozilla Firefox, I already have that as well. I also have Google Chrome and Opera browsers but I just need IE for some applications.

  • Internet Explorer taking 2 minutes to load?

Up until about 5 days ago my Internet Explorer was running just fine and taking a few seconds to load (maybe 10 seconds max). Now it's taking more than 2 minutes. I've tried running an antivirus and spyware scan, deleted all search history and cache, run CCleaner. I've even removed some other programmes in case they might be slowing things down. Once it has loaded, everything runs just fine with no problems at all. And I already have Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera as well and they all load just fine. It's just that I need Internet Explorer for some applications. Oh, and it is the latest version that I'm running.

Any other suggestions would be gratefully received because I'm all out of ideas.

  • Yahoo remembering my sign-in?

Before last Tuesday I could get onto any Yahoo site (Yahoo Answers, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Groups, Flickr) just by clicking on one of the icons in the browser window. Now I have to enter my Yahoo ID and password every time, which I didn't have to do previously. I haven't altered any of my settings (firewall, enabling cookies etc) so any ideas.

Secondly, is it possible to get Internet Explorer to open links that I click on in a new tab instead of a new window. Firefox opens links in a new tab, can Internet Explorer? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Yahoo sites not remembering my details on Internet Explorer?

Before today all my sign in details for Yahoo sites like this one, Yahoo Mail, Flickr etc have been remembered when I've been using Internet Explorer. But today I have to type in my Yahoo ID every single time I visit a Yahoo site. I must add that this is not happening when I use Firefox, it just takes me directly to the site. So obviously Internet Explorer is not remembering my sign on details even though I have ticked the box that says Leaves me signed on for 2 weeks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. P.S. I haven't altered my settings on Internet Explorer and it's been working fine without this problem for more than a year.

  • I'm a Celebrity . . . Get Me Out of Here?

Does anyone else think that this programme should be retitled I'm A Washed-up Nobody . . . Leave Me Here to Rot. Every year we get treated to the sight of a load of "celebrities" who most of us have never heard of mincing around in amongst some trees. I've got to state here and now that I've never watched it (or any other so-called reality show). I might watch though if they changed the format and viewers voted for people they wanted to save and the last person left would just be left in the jungle to survive on their own. Much better viewing!

  • Deleting question. Using the cursor.?

No, this is not about deleting questions? The problem I'm having is that whenever is place the cursor at the beginning of a line that I want to delete, instead of actually deleting everything that appears after the cursor, a line of full-stops is inserted instead. I can place the cursor at the end of the line and use the backspace key to delete with no problems, but not using the delete key at the beginning. I've done a virus and spyware scan, so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. Everything else works just fine.

  • Mozilla Firefox update?

I've been using the latest version of Mozilla Firefox (version 3.1) with Yahoo toolbar for ages with no problems. Yesterday I got a notice saying there was an update available for the Yahoo Toolbar. I clicked on the Download Update button and it installed correctly. Clicked on the Restart Firefox button, and Firefox restarted okay but the Yahoo Toolbar has disappeared! I've tried right-clicking in the menu bar area and the Yahoo Toolbar is no longer listed on my list of available toolbars. Anyone got any ideas where it has gone?

  • Installing a programme?

I'm trying to install Paltalk Messenger but I keep getting the following messages:

    C\:Program Files\Paltalk Messenger\irunin.dat

I'm no good when it comes to computer language. Does anybody have any idea what I need to do as I used to have Paltalk installed and it worked perfectly. I have completely removed all traces of the previous installation (I think).

  • Mozilla Firefox not launching?

I've been running Mozilla Firefox version 3 now for a couple of weeks with no problem. Today, when I clicked on the desktop icon I get a message saying

Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system.

I know that Firefox is not running. I have tried running a virus scan and a spyware scan. I've even uninstalled Firefox and reinstalling it from the offcial Mozilla Firefox site but nothing seems to be working. Any suggestions woud be gratefully received.
