  • How to prevent my pony running out at fences?

hey Iv'e had my mare for a while now and she's always been into her jumping however it's never been with me on her as she was on loan to a teenage girl. She competed her and never had a problem however she used to tell me that sometimes my mare would run out at fences. I told her it was probably best to have some lessons with a trainer. Once she grew out of my pony, I started riding her again and have decided to get her back into her jumping. I took her jumping a few weeks back and she was spot on, we didn't jump any higher than 2'9/3'0 as she hasn't jumped in a long time and I don't want to push her too hard as she's a little unfit atm XD. I let my friend have a go on her (the jump was about 3'0 and approached at canter) and the first thing my mare did was run out and my friend came off. She got back on and tried again, my mare ran out again and got a right smack and a yelling at. Eventually she got her over the jump however I want to correct this behaviour before she starts doing it with me. She is smart, and hasn't tried anything with me yet however I want to know what to do if it does happen.

Personally I think it's just her messing around with other riders as she knows she can get away with it or her being lazy.

    Any tips?

  • How to get my cob to trot in the school?

I have a young cob who has been broken for about a year now, he had been broken when I got him. I have managed to get him to do all sorts in walk, circles, figures of eight the lot and halt transitions everywhere. I just CANT get this cob to trot! Or canter obviously because I can't get him in trot but I obviously want to master the trot first. I have a whip, loads of leg and he refuses to trot, just walks a bit quicker, I'm putting NO pressure on his mouth at all and the only time he will trot with me on him in the school is with somebody else with me chasing him with the lunging whip. He trots out on hacks when asked completely fine, I don't know how to make him listen. I don't want to use Spurs on him because of his age and also he will then get used to them. Please help!! X

  • WESTERN HORSE RIDERS HELP :)?

Hi, I have a 13.2 average sized cob (3 years old) and I d like to get him western tack, currently he has English tack but only because that s what he came with and I d love to get some western tack on him. I m getting western tack for my 16th birthday but I don t know where to get the saddle from, I m on a budget and was going to get one from robinsons equestrian like I get all my horsey stuff (I live in staffordshire, UK) but their western saddles are all synthetic and are around £100 which is great price but it seems a little too cheap? What do you guys think? Easy points :) x

  • Schooling help!?

Another question about my young cob XD so this cob is nearly four, he was backed early and I trust him with my life on hacks he Is such a good boy, schooling needs so much work though XD always napping at the gate, refusing to move even with the whip and me kicking really hard. He just won't move. Can't get him to canter anywhere other than where he was taught and refuses to ever do a circle, just pulls his head inwards so the but doesn't have much effect and making me have no rien contact. I've tried starting him from scratch by loose schooling and lunging and he seems fine but the minute I sit on him, laziest thing you've ever seen XD Any advise?? Many thanks! Xx

  • Leading my cob takes much longer than it should. Help?

Okay we all know, horses are a lot stronger than people. Especially stubborn ones. Leading my horse up to the field is a pain. Every bit of grass he sees he forces himself towards and drags me with him. Even with somebody with me we have trouble making him walk the whole way up without him stopping and eating. I pull him with all my strength and it's very difficult to get him to move on with out yelling and smacking and making a scene on my yard XD he is three so still very young but no matter how much training advice I read, I can't get this problem sorted, Help? Xx

  • Can't pick up my cobs front feet? Trainer help please.?

I don't understand, he used to let me. I have a VERY lazy cob, 3 and a half years old and I'm having trouble getting him to pick up his front feet. Back feet, absolutely fine but whenever I get a front leg up, he paws powerfully forcing me to let go, or get kicked. Another thing he does if I hold on forcing him to keep his leg up, is lean, to the point where he is about to fall over on top of me. It's quite a recent problem but it's definetly becoming a bad habit of his and I'd rather deal with it sooner or later. Any effective training techniques to stop this stubbornness?

    Many thanks :)

  • Pony training advise?

I've recently got a young pony on loan. He is only three years old but already broken. He seemed to have been broken really quickly, I've taken him on hacks and he is golden, behaves better than my other older horses but in the school he is really lazy. He has only been in there a few times but has never been introduced to lunging or anything so don't know what approach I need to take or what to do with him. He naps at the gate and will just completely ignore me using the whip and refuses to listen. I get there in the end but I don't know what to do about the stubborn behaviour. Any ideas :) ? thank you! xx

  • I need advise about my pony!?

Okay so I have a young pony, 5 years. We rescued her a few years ago but I've only been with her for a year now. She is very nervous and hasn't been broken properly. We can't afford to send her anywhere and we keep her at home along with my other pony who is a lot older and been there done that but sadly retired now and out of work. This pony is very nervous being a rescue and I don't know how to introduce her to tack, we have before, and she was doing okay but we had a problem with the saddle slipping once and it scared the life out of her. She won't go near it anymore without bucking or rearing in her stable. We are basically starting from scratch. Any ideas on what I can do to start getting her into training? So far all I've managed to do is loose school her in walk trot and canter but still very spooky and won't have tack on xx please any ideas of things I can do with her to improve our bond and introduce her to tack and work x
