  • In fantasy football, what are your rules for trades?

    1. Should the trade of injured players be permitted? For instance, should a player be allowed to trade a healthy player for a player not expected to return until much later in the season, if at all? Personally, I think the players in a trade should be no worse than "probable," with the exception of a "questionable" player that has a good chance of playing that week? Would such a rule be disagreeable with you, if you were in my league?

    2. Should trades be cancelled if, during the review period, a player becomes injured, say, out for the season, or is it too late, too bad?

    3. Would you prefer that trades be processed after a two-day waiting period or immediately after the trade is reviewed by the commissioner? The concern here is, what if the trade is consummated late Saturday night or early Sunday morning and there isn't time to evaluate it or time enough for people to input their new players into their lineups? I'm concerned about a possible inconsistency in the time it takes for a trade to be reviewed. Of course, there could be a rule that trades will be declined if not consummated by, say, 4 pm Saturday. Then there's the whole issue of games being on Thursdays and Mondays, so it might be best to just keep it a 2-day period, so everyone knows when it will go through, if it goes through. Thoughts?

    4. Should trades be allowed to contain some players who have played already that week but not others?

    Thanks, everyone. I appreciate your thoughts.

  • Having trouble with video lag, and I'm not sure what next to try.?

    Experienced problem with Netflix, where video falls behind sound.

    Experienced problem with Starcraft 2, where video lagged and the game became unplayable.

    This happened suddenly yesterday, with no new programs installed, no changes.

    I've refreshed/restarted my Firefox browser to its default state; tried ending non essential processes in the task manager to lower CPU usage.

    Neither worked. Is it my video card? What should I try next? Thanks.

    Why would a new floor look like this? (Home Construction)?

    The floor, as it approaches the wall, on all sides, slants downward. There is more than 1/8 of an inch different between the low (against the wall) and the high (most of the floor). What would cause this? Should this be cause for concern?

    Attached is a crude picture illustrating what I would expect a floor to be and what it looks like currently.

    This home is currently under construction.

    What insect is pictured?

    Landed on my windshield, this. It has a six-pack abdomen of, um, baked beans and a whole lot o' junk in the trunk. Just wondering what it is that caused me to toss my blunt outside the car and roll up the windows. Just kidding about the blunt; I was done with it already.

    So ... what insect is it?

    Thanks.

  • Is it dangerous to inhale the fumes of liquid soap boiling in a pot?

    My roommate likes to clean dishes with burnt food on the bottom by boiling water and dish soap in the dish. The smell is awful, and it burns my throat a bit. I'm trying to find out if, indeed, this practice is releasing some sort of toxic something or other, but cannot find anything online. Perhaps you folks can tell me if this practice is, in fact, harmful to those who breathe it.

    Thanks.

  • My car, after starting, sounds like it will stall, but hasn't ... yet.?

    The car is from 2003 and has 130,000 miles on it. It's a manual transmission.

    What are the possible reasons?

    Is it dying? Is it clutch related? Is it something else?

    Thanks.

  • Ideas for how to take over for inactive managers (fantasy football) when a replacement is not an option?

    In over a decade of playing, this situation has arisen twice. Last year was a disaster. Because we have a small league of 8 teams, one absentee manager can have a significant impact on who and who does not make the playoffs. For example, if the manager in question does not put in subs for his bye week players, his team will likely lose to his opponent. The following week, when all of his players come off bye, he'll be much more formidable for that opponent. I don't think I need to elaborate on how this is hardly fair to the 2nd opponent.

    I've had a difficult time in coming up with ways to handle this. Do I simply let it go? It's not fair.

    This is the best I've been able to come up with (I would appreciate your thoughts on this, as well as any alternative suggestions):

    My only idea:

    1) Block the manager.

    2) Manage his or her team, putting in the highest projected-point players each week.

    3) Adding to his or her roster, players when needed, but only after the waiver period has ended, picking up the player with the highest projected remaining points.

    4) If his team loses, his account is saddled with the poor season he was headed for anyway. If his team is successful, transfer ownership of his team to a dummy account so he does not get credit.

    The only question I have, with regards to this plan, is when is it required to take action? When he's clearly not active? first time he doesn't sub?

  • Opinion on housing lot?

    Okay, you may have seen me ask a question before about this location versus this location, but now, if you'll bear with me (I'm incapable of making decisions, you see. My next question will be about this, in the psychology section), I'd ask your opinion on the following:

    Which lot?

    Lot 1: Behind the home, there's a steep hill, atop of which are a line of trees. The hill is far enough back that you can put in a patio and everything. The hill offers the opportunity to landscape the side of it, with different tiers. This is appealing. From the porch, the view is of an unused wooded area. The home would sit a bit higher than Lot 2.

    Lot 2: Behind the home, it's flat for a bit, then slowly fades down. There are trees here, too, but further back. You can landscape here, too, but, obviously, in a different way (no hill). With less of a hill, it might feel less claustrophobic, and you can throw a ball around. From the porch of this lot, you'd be looking across the way at the side of another house, and a little bit up the street. This lot, also on a cul-de-sac is the lowest lot, as it is at the bottom of the street. From the loft window at the side of the house, you'd be looking into the forest.

    I appreciate any opinions you might have. As I said, I'm having a difficult time make a decision, in part, because both lots have yet to be graded. I, of course, can't wait until that happens because they will have sold.

  • Will this issue with my finger resolve itself?

    Yesterday I was carrying in some groceries, and the weight of the bags caused the tip of my index finger to tingle, become a bit numb.

    This has happened before, of course, but, soon after the circulation, if I have it right, is no longer cut-off, things get better, and rather quickly.

    This time, however, the strange tingly, numb sensation has persisted, continuing all through last night to tonight.

    Did I do some sort of permanent damage, and what damage? Will it get better like before, but for some reason, has taken longer?

    Thanks.

  • Opinion: What would be your choice and why?

    I'm looking to purchase a home -- either a single family or a town-home.

    The single family home is located on a cul-de-sac, with woods behind it. The home would be 2,200 sq ft, and have 4-bedrooms, 2.5 baths and a two-car garage. The backyard would have a paver-stone patio with built-in grill, sitting wall and fire pit. The location of the home is suburban, 45 minutes from Charlotte. Nearby, there is a lake, a community theatre (where I can act) and two towns with a main street, offering restaurants and various stores. The home is 50 minutes from my only family.

    The townhome is located in the city of Charlotte, therefore offering more in the way of restaurants, etc.. It is 17 minutes from my family. It's 1,500 sq feet, with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. While there is a 10x10 concrete patio, it's not useable in the same way as with the other.

    Thanks.

  • Is there anything about which to be concerned with building a home on this lot?

    The lot is located on a cul-de-sac. At the back of it, there's some woods. All in all, it seems like a prime location. My question (my concern) is this: The builder has deemed it that this lot and one other will be sold last, and have been using the grounds for storing dirt, as well as, I think, drainage, as they build all of the homes before it. Will this practice in anyway cause problems with a home ultimately built on such a lot? Thanks.

  • Interior Decorating Question?

    I'm moving into an apartment with an open kitchen design. The cabinets in the kitchen are espresso, the appliances stainless steel and the counter some sort of white granite, but with speckles of some other color. The floor in the kitchen is hardwood of a dark brown, but the living space (dining/living open) is carpeted in a white(ish) color.

    I have, in my possession, furniture that is black -- a television stand, desk, desk with hutch, and two bookcases.

    Will the furniture look okay given that you can see both the kitchen and the living room at the same time -- both black and espresso (dark brown)?

    If it's in any way workable, what do I need to do to pull it together? I haven't chosen a sofa yet. What color should that be, and what of the accent pieces?

    Thanks.

  • Formatting Windows 7 (recycle bin question)?

    Okay, so I've gone through the process of formatting and installing Windows. Why, then, are files that were in the recycle bin prior to the format and reinstall still there? Everything else is gone, from the files to the programs, only the trash remains.

    Second question: I first began formatting drives when DOS still played a role, and the process was much more lengthy. Can anyone confirm that this several second format that takes place now still does the job of erasing the drive?

    Final question: If I, instead, delete the drive (as opposed to clicking "format,") and then install on the unallocated space, is this equivalent to formatting? I mean, what's the difference between deleting the drive and installing versus formatting and installing?

    Primarily, I'd like to find out about my first question. Before I go and install things, I'd like to know why the trash is there, whether or not this is an error, and therefore, if I should simply do it again.

    Thanks.

  • Book recommendations?

    Too often I pick up a book, and later toss it aside from lack of interest. So, after giving this careful consideration (again,) I've decided that I'd like to find a book (or books) that fit (fits) some of the criteria below. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

    * Time travel

    * First person

    * Search for meaning in life

    * Psychology

    * Witty, smart

    It's not much to go on, but if you've read something that fits the bill, let me know.

  • What kind of offense did Geno Smith run in college?

    I've found that he did not run the Pistol (Colin Kaepernick) or the Spread (RG3), and that he was basically a pocket passer who could move when necessary. Why, then, was the offense not considered a pro-style offense? What was it?
