  • How do you batch rename a bunch of files with different file names?

I have a few thousand pictures I've take over the years and I'd like to rename them from the default name assigned by the camera-phone/device that created them. I've found tutorials on how to batch rename the files and have them appended with a "(1), (2), etc.)" but this doesn't help much as I would like each picture to have its own name (based on the date) so they're easier for me to sort. How might I go about doing this?

  • How do I bind ALL of my extra mouse buttons?

I have tried everything - xmouse button control, autohotkey, logitech mouse software, etc. but NONE of them will simply allow me to re-map extra buttons on my mouse (x-mouse button control is the closest to accomplish this, however it doesn't recognize past button 4 and 5 and I have 2 buttons behind my mouse wheel which at this point are virtually unusable)

Is there software for something like this?

How do I go about re-mapping ANY key on my mouse to perform a specific function?

  • Is it dangerous to breathe in fumes from cleaning a graphite crucible?

I run a small educational foundry at a local college and as part of the maintenance I do to the furnace I heat the graphite crucible we use until the aluminum is molten, then scrape it off the sides of the crucible (this is done to clean residual aluminum from the crucible).

When I did this, however, some of the graphite came off with the aluminum and released a terrible smelling dust that I unfortunately breathed some of (I had a face shield on, but no respirator). What I d like to know is if this can cause any known medical issues and if I should seek medical attention (my stomach has been feeling awful today and other parts of my body ache, and I don t know what else to attribute these symptoms to).

  • What Is the best regulation outdoor court volleyball to buy?

I'd prefer experienced outdoor volleyball players or coaches to answer. I'd also prefer a ball that is on the softer side but reacts well to impact.

I'm looking in the $75 dollar range.

    Thank you.

  • How do I fix this problem with a home made solar tracking system?

My friends and I are wiring up a solar tracking system for our senior design project and we're having an issue with the system (I wish I could provide a diagram, but unfortunately my group member has all the technical data).

In short, the circuit consists of:

    1) 4 light dependent resistors

    2) A comparator circuit that balances the resistors until their values are equal

    3) 2 DC motors (controlling pitch and azimuth)

    4) 2 H-bridges (to vary the direction of the motors)

    5) A Pulse With Modulator, which reduces the RPM of one of the motors as it meets our torque requirements but spins too fast.

The problem: The balancing system works, but when the LD resistors are finally balanced, the motors never shut off (they just keep re-directing - I'm assuming they are trying to find a better position). What we really need them to do is track the sun at a slow pace, and shut off once they are balanced (I'm also assuming this will require some sort of value range limiting device, which will disengage the motors once a value within that range is obtained for all of the sensors).

Personally I'm a mechanical engineering student (all of us are) and we don't have too much experience with electronics, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!

  • How do I change the settings in Solidworks to match the settings in Inventor?

I am a student at school and I've used both programs extensively before, however, I like the mouse and keyboard defaults of Inventor better than solidworks. For example: in Inventor you hold the shift key while clicking to rotate the view freely. however in solidworks this is not possible (they want you to use this stupid thing called the "steering wheel" that no one likes).

Essentially I am asking: How can I change the input settings in Solidworks?

  • Is my computer copying files slowly because of my USB drive?

I have a Lenovo W530 with a SSD Samsung drive, 16GB of RAM, and am running Win8 Pro x64on an I7 processor. My flashdrive is a 32GB Sandisk.

Every time I copy a file to it it is really slow. (Currently I have speeds between 2 and 4 mbps). Is It copying so slowly because of the USB limitations?

  • How do I buy something discretely online?

I am looking to buy something online that I would rather my parents not know about (don't worry, it's perfectly legal and I don't really think they would care anyway but out of respect for them I try to keep things like this low key.

In any case the item in question is around $30, but the only trouble is that I can only buy it from a specific website (I can't hide where it's coming from) and the only means I have to pay for it are my debit card or paypal (but the website doesn't accept paypal). I have a joint account with my parents so they check up on the balance and would notice/question the purchase.

Is there any way I can purchase this item and not leave a trail where it came from?

    Thanks

  • How can I gain complete access to ALL the files on my Ubuntu partition?

Basically I accidentally messed up Ubuntu (I have it dual-booted with Win8 on my computer). I accidentally deleted some OS files and can no longer log into Ubuntu. I plan on getting a new HDD soon so I don't really need to worry about recovering the OS itself, I just need to get a few files off of Ubuntu that I had saved.

I downloaded ext2explorer and that can only read the OS files from the Ubuntu partition (none of my personal files). I also tried reading the hdd using Ubuntu from another laptop, but it wouldn't let me access my personal data (I.e. music/movies/documents/downloads) folders.

Long story short, how do I go about enabling permissions so that I can extract all of the data (not just the OS data - why the heck do I need that in the first place, Im not going to repair it, just re-install?!?!)

Also, I tried using sudo and root in a command shell, but as I said I can't log in to view my files (which I know are there because the partition is 30GB and more than half of it has data stored on it.

    Thank you!

  • Is it possible to use the Ubuntu Live CD as a restore disk?

Long story short I believe I accidentally deleted some crucial OS files (profile files). I can boot to Ubuntu but every time I try to log in it kicks me back to the login page instead of logging me in.

I know that, for example, if there are OS files on a Windows computer, you can use the OS CD that came with the computer to reinstall missing or broken files.

Can I do the same to Ubuntu using the Ubuntu Live disk I made for the initial install?

Will I lose any of my programs or information if I do this? (I AM NOT looking to install Ubuntu over the current Ubuntu installation!)

    Thank you

  • How do I stop my browser on my phone from being redirected?

When I'm on a webpage my phone sometimes gets redirected to the app store or a random spam website like "badoink.com".

I don't know why it does this but I'm beginning to believe my phone has a virus. I tried clearing my browser history, cache, and cookies, but it still happens. I have a Motorola Photon. Is there any way of stopping it from doing this?

  • Can I use an Ubuntu Disk to repair or replace missing OS files?

I believe I accidentally deleted or damaged some OS files in Ubuntu when I was trying to get rid of some desktop icons.

Is there a way I can use the Ubuntu disk that I made and replace the OS files that are missing/corrupt, but still keep all my data/programs? (I don't want to go through the process or re-installing everything, especially since I have my hard drive partitioned).

Please let me know if there is a way, and if so, what are the steps. I am currently running Ubuntu 12.04 x64.

    Thank you
