  • substitution for green onions?

I'm making peanut sauce for noodles and most of the recipes I saw included green onions, but I don't have any, just regular white onions or pearl onions. Do I really need onion or is it more of an aesthetic thing? Would onion powder work? Thanks.

  • weight gain with exercise?

I've gained about 10-15 pounds over the past couple months and I'm wondering if it could at least partly be muscle (hopefully). I have been eating a less healthy diet with more "crap foods" as I call them, pizza, hot dogs, etc, but I've also been exercising a lot more. I walk everyday, usually in the morning, up hill for 40 minutes, and then back down for another 40 minutes with a break in between.

This uphill climb was pretty difficult at first but I'm really used to it now, I've been doing it everyday for about 2 weeks now and almost every day for 2 months. Plus, any other walking around during the day. (I moved so my diet change and exercise are simultaneous)

I thought the walking was balancing out the diet, but then I checked the scale the other day and I gained about ten pounds! Any insight to what is happening?

  • soap bubbles on my store-bought shrimp?

I just bought shrimp from the supermarket, they are precooked, I'm assuming they had been frozen for a while, but there are bubbles that look like soap bubbles. I'm wondering what this is???? I'm eating them anyway, they seem fine, but I just was wondering the deal since I've never worked in a sea-market or anything of the like. Thanks

  • thunderstorm/lightning and being on a docked sailboat?

Just posted in the boating section, but I am staying on a sailboat and there's a big thunderstorm due to come in tonight. I'm wondering what the risk is of staying on the boat, and just unplugging the electricity. The mast is one of the tallest if not the tallest one of the surrounding boats, but there are much taller trees next to it, plus a giant metal garage/building near by. Any idea if I really need to leave for the night, or will it most likely be safe? Also, I'm in a fair sized creek, not on a major body of water like the ocean, lake, or big river.

  • thunderstorm/lightning and being on a docked sailboat?

I'm staying on a docked sailboat and there is a big thunderstorm due to come in tonight. I'm wondering if it's really that dangerous to where I need to leave the boat. The mast is one of the tallest, if not the tallest, of the surrounding boats, but there are huge trees a few feet away and a huge metal garage/building. I was planning on just unplugging the electricity and hunkering down. Any idea of the risk?

  • what happens if you eat soaked but uncooked black beans?

I ate some beans not realizing they hadn't been cooked. They were soaked, but not cooked and were slightly crunchy. This was a couple hours ago and now I'm having stomach pains. It feels like my stomach is very tense and tight, similar to stomach cramps. I'm trying to figure out if this is because of the beans or if I'm just stressed out because it has been a very stressful day and I am tense in general.

  • Best kind of oil to add to dog food to combat dry skin?

I know you can add oil or raw eggs to dog food to help with dry skin/skin allergies. We have tried switching dog foods, but our dog also needs dry weight control food. At least a temporary help, we want to add oil to the dog food. I was going to use olive oil, but wanted to know other suggestions as to what to use or what not to use. I don't want to give him raw eggs, just a personal preference.

  • how do you deal with irritability?

i'm trying to figure out how to calm myself down when I get in really irritable moods. Irritable as in when everything bothers you, little things, and things that shouldn't matter are a big deal. Similar to stress and anxiety but not the same thing.

  • To make egg-in-a-basket, stale bread?

This will be my first attempt at egg-in-a-basket (I'm American), where you cut a hole in the middle of the bread and cook the egg in it, all in the frying pan. So my question is, does the bread need to be toasted or slightly stale so it doesn't get soggy?? Also any other tips would be helpful, Thanks :)

If you are a paralegal or a lawyer, or know a paralegal, please give me as much info as possible about what a typical day for them would be, and what they actually do at work, different tasks assigned, hours, etc.

  • texas hold 'em technical question?

as far as i knew, all texas hold 'em on all levels is played best 5 cards, and you HAVE to use the 2 in your hand. meaning, you cannot use 4 on the board.

i play Zaynga poker online sometimes and it really pisses me off when people win using 4 cards on the board, especially when i would have won in real life.

  • is it rude to automatically add gratuity on a bill that is for tourists of US?

If a couple or a group have a meal, and it is pretty obvious that they do not live in the US (they're speaking a different language among themselves, for example), is it rude to add the tip onto their bill?? people seriously get really confused as to if the tip is included, and how much to leave, because its included in most other countries. But I think it's pretty rude to assume that they don't know what to do, and make them tip a certain amount they may not consider fair, especially when its not usually the policy to include it. plus, then what if (on the rare occasion) they would have tipped much more.
