  • How often (per month) do you order something online?

Almost any product, (No: we'd rather not hear about how the internet is a great way to order porn, thanks..).

  • Poll Question: Are you concerned more, with the "down" economy, about robbery and personal safety?

I was just surfing and saw that the US government statistics show robbery down last year.

My state was up in that category.

I am in retail, and some nearby competitors (not us...) have been robbed. Some customers mugged/carjacked outside.

    Are you worried more?

Are you doing anything differently to be safe?

  • What do you do to stay calm when everyone around you is panicking?

    Just curious...

There are so many "right" answers...

    What's yours?

  • Do you feel safe (from violence... not from a crabby boss...) at your workplace?

Let's face it: some jobs ARE more dangerous than others.

    How does yours fare?

  • When do you think most business burglaries occur?

    6am-12noon?

    12noon-6pm?

    6pm-12midnight?

    12mid.-6am?

***No: I'm NOT looking for the best time to rob you, just seeing if public perception matches with statistics. My Director of Security showed me some and I was quite surprised...

  • What's you favorite "invention"?

Whether it is something very useful, maybe valuable, perhaps cutting edge, or just plain old "cool" to have...

    What would yours be?

  • What do you do to reward yourself for a "job well done"?

It could be work related, or not. Maybe something around the house "got that landscaping finally finished...", or "helped the new neighbors find their lost dog."

Now, I am talking a about an "average wo/man's" budgetary reward. Not that red convertible you've always wanted... Let's be realistic here...

    Say: $100 to $200 limit...

What would you get or do...???

    ;-)

  • So: you have less disposable cash due the economy: what do you still "splurge" on?

Something that has real meaning to you.

Something that is tangible. A "thing" (rare baseball card), not an "experience" (rock concert ticket).

I'm not talking a new car, here. Lets say something about $100 to $200.

  • Do You Or A Family Member Need Help With Alcoholism Recovery?

If so: would an online series of free audio mp3's and books/articles for download be of some help, or is there enough "stuff" on the web already?

This is a "sore subject" with many family members and spouses, so please let me explain further:

I am a recovering alcoholic (sober 5 years). Before that, I put my family through "heck" (that's not the word I want to use, but there's this "community guidelines" thing Yahoo has...).

I am lucky to still have my family and life. Period.

I am a strong believer in the 12 step method and AA.

I was just wondering if there is anyone who would want something "positive" to help you or your family.

AA and counseling deal with the addiction.

What I can offer (ok: my wife has a lot to contribute as well...), is the same advice I've learned over the years about the other part: getting your life back.

A lot of "AA'ers" tell you: "Your life won't be the same - get used to it."

There's some truth to that: there are marriage breakups AFTER the spouse gets sober: the person changes.

I am very thankful to MANY people who helped me change... for the better! Not "get used to it", but "get over it." Back into a better life than it was before. Links to their work, teachings and advice, all on one site, would have benefited me. Perhaps I can "give back" to just maybe help someone else.

Or, is there just so much "junk" out there on the web, no one would see or care?

  • Do You Worry About Swimming In Polluted Water?

Our beaches nearby get closed down on and off during the Summer for bacteria levels and other things.

Kind of makes you wonder: what if it was "just below" the closing point when they tested that morning to see if the beach was going to be open or closed for the day!

What the heck are we swimming in?

Is there any way to know?

How much exposure to the water is "safe"?

  • No Driver for Ethernet Board, Sound Card, Network Controller... NEED HELP!?

I had a major series of "blue screen of death" crashes. Daily (or more) for a week. I kept on rolling back the system restore (Win. XP Pro). Uninstalled everyting going back about 3 months. Cleaned up the registry. The more I did, the more often it crashed. Untouched programs stopped working. Uninstalled ones came back to life. Browsers would crash every few minutes or so.

I tried the recovery portion of the XP disk. That made it even worse: all the problems were still the same, but no sound card found.

So: I bit the bullet, formatted the drive and did a clean install from the XP disk.

Now: I have the 3 unrecognized hardware problems (above). I opened the case, got the name and model numbers for the items. Downloaded the drivers (from my laptop) to a USB drive. I did the "remove hardware/add hardware" thing, and directed XP to look in these files for the drivers. The PC still says: "no drivers found." It also still does not recognize what's attached: it says "network controller" but calls it "unknown", so (I guess) it wouldn't recognize ANY driver if it didn't know what the hardware was, anyway, would it?

It's a 2 year old Dell Optiplex GX280, Pentium 4, 3GB RAM, WIndows XP Pro. Can't affor a new computer, or three new cards, or a few hundred at best Buy (or where ever) to get it fixed.

    Please help!!

    Any ideas?

  • has anyone ever seen, or does anyone know of a parasail that ISN'T round, but a square, ram-air canopy?

I've always wanted to have a little more fun than just being at the mercy of the wind and the boat captain. Being able to steer would be nice. Anyone know of an outfit that currently has this?

  • How do I convert a 4GB .iso video file to .wmv format?

The file can't be burned to DVD (burner died... computer is so old, it's not worth replacing...). So, how, then, can I watch it ON the computer instead of burning to DVD?

  • I need a quick release that works like a carabiner, but has a quick single pull release/pin feature.?

This would be for secure attachment of sailor to a small sailboat. The ability to "quick release" a clip or carabiner while underwater in a tangled mess of lines and fabric during a capsize in heavy seas was found to be dangerously inadequate. A similar device with a bright red pull handle/pin would be great.

  • Who knows of a helicopter (& pilot) in the US Midwest that can achieve an altitude of 23000' (in level flight)

Cost is of some concern, as it would be for a skydive record attempt as part of a fund raiser.
