  • What is a Good Present to Make for a Mature Adult Man on His Birthday?

I'm going to make my Dad a present and I want it to be nice. Being my Dad, he will probably think anything I make for him is special, but I want it to actually BE special.

    Here are some parameters:

    1. It can't be too expensive to make; I would say $60 tops on materials.

    2. It shouldn't be too fancy, overly ornate or figuratively (or literally) frilly; my Dad is a dignified 60-something-year-old man; not a Barbie doll.

    3. I want it to be a project that I have to put some genuine time and effort into, but I don't want it to be something SO fantastically advanced that I'll just muck it all up and end up with a shotty, mistake-ridden finished product.

    4. I want it to be sweet, loving, tasteful and refined; just like my Dad.

It might be useful to know some things I'm already good at doing:

    1. I'm skilled with wordcraft; I can write excellent personal essays, short memoirs, letters, poems, songs and letters.

    2. I'm a skilled knitter (and an intermediate sewer); I can make most kinds of clothing, object-holders, blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc. freehand or with a pattern and know or can quickly learn most stitches and many advanced techniques.

    3. I'm an intermediate drawer and painter; my best pieces are usually of faces, animals, plants & flowers, architecture or simple landscapes or are abstract. I'm generally quite good at using art to evoke certain emotions.

    4. I'm quite crafty in general and I'm always up for new projects and ideas; some things I've done in the past include leatherwork, simple stained glass, beadwork, scrapbooking, collaging, decoupaging, appliquing, simple quilting, patchwork and cardmaking.

Finally, some background information about my Dad might be helpful:

He's in his sixties, retired, lives in rural Kentucky with his wife (my stepmother). He retains his zest for life and is very funny, playful and gregarious. Stylisticly, his tastes are mature and elegant with just a bit of pizzaz to liven things up while still being very tasteful and refined. He's very fond of old-fashioned things like vintage cars, music from the 50's, and -his favorite- old-fashioned western movies. Finally, he has a deep appreciation for beauty, all kinds of beauty, but especially that of nature. He very much enjoys things like picturesque countrysides, sunsets, all kinds of different plants and wildlife, fresh-picked fruits and vegetables (he loves to cook), and his 3 cats.

Do you think you can help me think of some good ideas? I'm open to any suggestions you have, so don't be shy =)

  • What are the components of a perfect society?

I'm working on a school project for sociology about society and I need some serious input about what various people think are the components of a perfect society.

It would also be very helpful if you could provide some examples of societies that encapsulate some of the components that you list.

  • Where can I get REAL information about the effects of marijuana use?

I'm looking for real information that I can use for research, but all my search has come up with is a lot of anti-drug propaganda.

I want to find some objective information that is detailed, thorough, and has good, verifiable citations.

Does anyone think they can help me with this?

  • How much do you think Ashley Graham weighs? (picture & measurements included)?

I'm using her picture for a character in my writing and it would be helpful to know her weight, but I can't find it anywhere and I'm awful at guessing that kind of stuff. Can anyone help me out by giving me an estimate?

    Height: 5'9"

    Waist: 32"

    Hips: 47"

    Bra: 38d

  • What would you say about this poem?

I'm supposed to write a critical analysis of this poem by Donald Justice, but I'm really not sure where I want to go with it, so I thought it would be a good idea to get an outside opinion on what the most relevant aspects of it to focus on would be.

So what do you think about it?

Poem to Be Read at 3:00AM

    Excepting the diner

    On the outskirts

    The town of Ladora

    At 3 A.M.

    Was dark but

    For my headlights

    And up in

    One second-story room

    A single light

    Where someone

    Was sick or

    Perhaps reading

    As I drove past

    At seventy

    Not thinking

    This poem

    Is for whoever

    Had the light on

  • When did the U.S. enter World War I?

I'm doing an American history timeline, and I need to know the exact date that the U.S. entered World War I. I tried looking it up on the internet, but I got a bunch of different answers and none of the sources seemed veritable, so it would be great if someone could both

    (A) Answer the question, and

    (B) Provide a reliable source

  • What is a good hairstyle for thick, coarse, medium-length hair?

My hair is wavy, thick, coarse, all the same length (a few inches past my shoulders), and dyed a purple-y auburn color. I dye my hair and use a hair dryer and flat iron frequently. There's a lot of damage, but I definitely don't want to cut it all off. I've been trying to grow it out, but I've decided that it would probably be best to just get a new haircut.

So can anybody give me some specific opinions on what type of haircut I should get? Or give me a good website I can go to to look at some pictures? I'm pretty open to most things that don't make me lose a lot of length.

Also, some tips on how to minimize and heal heat damage would be great.
