Has anyone ever heard of the mamao? p.s. spelling might be wrong)?
When I was younger, my southern-Italian mum (she's Calabrian) used to tell me that if I 'was naughty' that 'the mamao' (whom were supposedly some group of persons to be feared), would 'take me away'. My mother's parents also told her the same thing. I'd imagine its a common story parents in southern-Italy tell young children but I haven't heard anyone else knowing of it.
2 AnswersFamily5 years agoCookie monster question?
My father seems to remember that in sesame street when he was a child (1970s), the cookie monster ate a cookie and proceeded to violently eat the table and chairs also. Does anyone know an episode in which something like this happened?

I want to smooth out 250v 12A DC that has been rectified. How many microfarads should it be?
Also, does it matter if the capacitor is more microfarads than need be?
1 AnswerEngineering5 years agoWould 200v DC be dangerous?
I have a DC treadmill motor that is able to produce up to 200v DC when turned as a generator. I am concerned as to whether the high voltage poses a large safety risk.
And does it make a difference if the power produced is being drawn/used?
2 AnswersEngineering5 years agoCan AC devices run off DC at the same voltage???
E.g. Can a 240v AC device run off 240v DC?
And I also heard that almost all devices run off DC because they have an AC/DC rectifier inside them. Is this true?
3 AnswersEngineering5 years agoMotor used as generator generates both AC and DC electricity?
Recently, I brought home a non-working treadmill (which I got for free) with the purpose of experimenting with what I could do when using its large motor as a generator.
Anyway, I removed the housing to expose the motor and I joined the terminals onto a voltmeter. I set the voltmeter to dc and found that when I walked on the treadmill, it produced up to 100 volts at the fastest I could go. Then I set the voltmeter to ac, expecting to see nothing, yet I again was able to produce 100 volts walking my fastest on the treadmill. Why is the voltage so high and how can I produce both ac and dc electricity?????
I then tried to measure dc amperage (my voltmeter doesn't measure ac amperage). Unusually, when doing this, it becomes much harder to turn the motor when walking on the treadmill. Yet should I switch back to measuring volts, it's easy again. Why is this???????
tell me if there's any other details i need to provide.
Thanks to all who answer!!!
2 AnswersEngineering5 years agoHow would I reduce 9 amps 12 volts dc to 5 amps 12 volts dc?
I've heard that to reduce amperage without reducing voltage, you can use a resistor. But is this the best way? And if it is, how many ohms would it need to be.
Remember, I need to keep 12 volts yet reduce from 9 amps.
Thanks to all who answer.

1 AnswerHomework Help5 years agoDoes anyone else oversleep and find it annoying?
I'm a student and have probably 7-hour sleeps each night from Monday to Friday. This feels too little yet is something that's hard to control, considering my schedule. Yet on weekends I can sleep for in excess of 10 hours and find it impossible to get up as I'll be awake for the last hour or two and will be feeling groggy and still tired. I just can't get up when this happens even though I'm awake. And I also often have low energy levels and feel tired after a good nights sleep. Anyway, a lot of this is so annoying.
Does any of this happen to anyone else?
2 AnswersOther - General Health Care5 years agoHow can I stop leaving homework to the last minute?
I find it impossible to do homework when it's not really close to being due. When homework isn't yet due, I want to do absolutely anything else. And there are so many distractions.
My procrastinating causes so many problems for me. In fact, I'm avoiding homework right now by asking this question. What do I do?

In my family's southern Italian dialect, it's meant to be an artichoke but I've never heard it used by anyone else.
The proper Roman word for artichoke is carciofo though.
