  • Anyone bought their dress from J Crew?

I've seriously fallen in love with a J Crew dress, but the only problem is that you have to buy it on line without trying it on! Has anyone bought their wedding dress from J Crew, or their bridesmaids dresses? I know you can return the dress to the store if it doesn't fit, but what about alterations? Can you get them done at the store? Was your experience positive, and was the dress well made? Thanks for any info!

  • Where to find a bridesmaid's dress larger than a 26?

I tried posting this before, but people are awful and judgmental. I have an overweight bridesmaid who I love and want to feel comfortable. Problem is, she's much larger than my other bridesmaids, and I don't know how to go about getting her a dress. She is bigger than a 26, the size many plus size gowns go up to. I don't want to have all the gowns specially made. Can I buy matching fabric from somewhere like David's Bridal, or will they make a dress larger if need be?

  • What gift should I get my aunt for her wedding?

She's been married once before, and so has her fiancé, so they don't need any of the traditional gifts. She isn't registered because it's a small wedding with just family. They're going on an all-inclusive cruise for their honeymoon, so I can't get them anything for that. I'd feel weird giving money because I'm her niece, and I like giving physical gifts anyway. Any ideas in the $50-$75 price range?

  • What is a hen night...?

Is it a bachelorette party? Am I only one who thinks the word "hen" is awful? I would be horrified if my best friend announced she was throwing me a "hen" party. It makes me think of overweight, nagging, clucky wives, not a good thing! Am I missing something on this?

  • How can I get my dad to respect me for being vegetarian?

My dad and I don't agree on a lot, but we can still get along with each other. He used to invite my fiancé and I for dinner about once a week, but since I went vegetarian a few months ago the invites have stopped. I've tried cooking for him and bringing it over, but he turns his nose up at my cooking, and he used to enjoy it. He even asks, "Is there meat in it?" and won't eat something if I made it vegetarian. Sometimes I cook a separate dish with meat just so he'll eat it, but he never ever goes out of his way for me, and it seems like the opposite. The one time he had us for dinner since I stopped eating meat, he only had steak, fresh tomatoes, and rolls. So I had a dinner of two tomato slices and a roll.

He and my mom are divorced, and she's vegetarian, so I think that has something to do with it. The first thing he asked me when I went veg is, "Is this because of your mother?!" Um, NO. It's because of ME! I've always cared for animals, and I thought about being vegetarian for a long time, even before my mom. I'm not trying to convert him, I don't even talk about it! How can I get him to treat me like a person again?

  • Would you "fake" propose?

A friend of mine loves to tell the story of how she got engaged, and it makes me cringe inwardly every time. When she gets to the part where he got down on one knee, she says, "And I didn't think he was serious, because he'd been doing that for months as a joke!"

Apparently his brother gave him a tip that if the girl has an idea that you're going to propose soon, you should start tricking her with "fake" proposals. So he would formally sink to one knee, take her hand, and ask her if she wanted to go for take-out. She thought this was funny and cute- I think it's horrible!

Guys, would you ever fake a proposal to keep your gf on her toes? Girls, how would you feel if your guy faked a proposal?

  • How can I have a small wedding without offending family?

My parents are going to be paying for our wedding, and they've asked that we keep the guest list to about 75 people. We can't have more people than that at the site we've chosen anyway. My fiancé's family is from out of town, and the majority won't be able to make it. However, he says that not inviting all of his aunts, uncles, and cousins will turn him into a black sheep, and he'll never be invited to another event. Should we invite them all, and pray that they don't come, or is there a polite way to explain that we want an intimate wedding, and my family can't afford to invite all of his?
