  • mini tea set marked "Made in Occupied Japan" but no manufacturer's mark?

Just happened to pick it up today at the thrift store since it's perfect scale for my dolls, and realized that it miiiight be worth something once I noticed the "Made in Occupied Japan" mark on the bottom of some pieces. The mark does not come off with nail polish remover, and it's on about half the pieces but not the plates or the teacup. It needed some cleaning as well but working at it carefully with a magic eraser has gotten rid of the yellow tinge and brightened it all back up to nice white and blue.

There is a teapot with lid, one teacup, serving dish (I guess, that's what I'm calling it anyways), and two smaller things like creamers or sugar bowls/dishes. There are also three plates and three very shallow bowls or possibly plates themselves but with more of a curving-upwards edge on them. The pattern is a scenic blue pattern on white china, and the artwork itself is very Chinese and/or Japanese. I've seen the same plates and the teacup on a collector's page but the inside of my teacup is blank, while his or hers had a little bit of the scene inside as well.

Is it a fake or a replica, or might it actually be a little piece of history? O.o

  • How do you make a child grow up evil in Sims 3?

    Daddums happens to be dirt evil and he has a wish "See (child) Become Evil" but it doesn't say how. The only evil option he has versus the toddler is to steal her candy, I guess I can always save the game and try it, but does anyone know if there's a proper way to do it? I'd rather not end up having to redo a lot of work, and doing a Google search on this is about useless. O.o;;

  • Maybe buying apartment or condo on disability. Expenses? Advice?

Early next year I will have the opportunity to buy something up to about the $20K range, due to final SSI/SSDI backpay. Technically I could use that as a down-payment on something larger, but I am more leery of a mortgage with the knowledge I'll have to pay property tax too. Depending on location (say, Arizona) I can get something permanent, though that opens up a whole range of issues I have never dealt with. I know I would also have to pay insurance (fire/whatever), utilities... am I forgetting something major? And there is always the freak "oh snap the ____ just busted" bills of home ownership bad luck. I get just under $700 a month SSI/SSDI normally, so I don't have a lot to work with. I noticed a $19K place in Tucson had about $1K/year in annual taxes. I could work with that.

I currently have a housing voucher that I also don't want to screw up, especially if deciding to own something were to turn into me getting in over my head. I don't really have anything to fall back on, as most disability housing has waiting lists (or applying again for the voucher would be another waiting list and voucher lotteries are in bad shape from what I have seen lately). Hence the call for advice. If I wasn't using the voucher anymore, someone else would get it on the waiting list that needs it, but in the meantime the question becomes do *I* still need it.

Should I buy, have my own place, keep my head on straight financially to be sure the bills are paid? Or am I not working with enough funds, forgetting something, etc, and should stick with the voucher for now? The sad part about that backpay is I literally HAVE to spend it down under $2000 within six months of when I get it in December or I will lose part of my monthly check as... a punishment for daring to save money while poor, is what it really is. The US government is a mess on soooo many levels... but eh, that's not the focus of this topic. Advise away, and thank you in advance. ^_^

  • Why can't I trade with a friend in Pokemon SoulSilver?

I was able to connect and get a friend code just fine, but when the two of us are in the wi-fi club, we can't really do anything. I could sometimes see her, but now I'm not able to see her at all (and yet she can see me). Trying to initiate voice chat (by walking up and hitting the A button on her) froze and disconnected us both. There's no ability to do anything when one person enters trade-seeking mode. The manual is about useless in explaining step-by-step trading procedures, but clicking on her name in the touchscreen when it indicates the trading symbol doesn't do anything. Having both of us seek trades at once does nothing. I have a green connection with full bars. Are we doing something wrong?

The wi-fi connection is from routers (mine's from Verizon), not through a USB adapter or anything like that. Hers is... leeched from a neighbor >_>;; but she can still see me, so we should be okay?

Also the pokemon I am trying to give her is Dratini, I only have a Furret and a Pidgey in my party right now otherwise. Is it a problem because Dratini isn't a part of the initial Pokedex or something? I got it from the coin game at the 3rd badge city. I don't see how it'd effect trades but someone did mention elsewhere that having a non-Jhoto pokemon might not allow for trades. I have 2 badges, she has 1.

  • What coat or style of coat is Paul Bettany wearing near the beginning of Legion?

The closest I have come so far in Google searches is a Nehru jacket but even that doesn't seem quite right. The exact jacket source would be wonderful, but even the name of the style or what other things I could be looking for that are really close would be cool.

  • Is there a way to stop Yahoo Messenger from displaying the newsfeed under the input line while chatting?

I've looked through preferences and such, no good... it's annoying and seems to be a new feature as of today (or wasn't used whenever it was integrated until recently).

  • Is soy cheddar an aged cheese?

This probably shows how little I know about soy cheese in general. I'm just now making the switch over to a dairy-free diet, and I am concerned about soy cheese flavors beyond jack and mozerella. I am allergic to pretty much all aged and fermented products, but if soy cheddar is merely a flavoring thing, I could eat cheddar again! Just... the soy version. XD

    Anybody know?

  • I'm disabled and want to move to California, what resources should I look into?

Being as I'm on disability I don't have much of an income, and I can't work. On the plus side, that means I'm not worried about the job market. On the negative side, that means housing becomes a major issue. I am currently living in a disability residential system on the east coast but I would be okay on my own. I tried looking around a few CA websites but it's easy to get lost in them. I would most likely want to live in San Francisco, my second choice being Los Angeles.

Basically I'm looking for any and all tips on what to do, what to expect, and/or what to be careful of. I have lived on my own before at least, but I had a job then. I have fairly geeky, liberal, and open-minded interests, hence the choice of San Fran specifically.
