  • Getting a promotion (Project Manager), but I'm not sure I'm ready....?

Getting a promotion (Project Manager), but I'm not sure I'm ready....?

It's electrical work (Commercial jobs, T-Line's, New construction, Etc)

I've been in the business for ten years now, but I'm used to being out in the field, as a foreman basically. I'm not sure if I can handle running a multimillion dollar job. They are using this job to teach me everything, but I feel pretty overwhelmed. It seems I get intimidated by all the big-wigs out there, I feel awkward meeting the general contractor and subs on this level.

I also have quite a few co-workers who are somewhat bitter because I'm getting this opportunity, as they think they deserve it more. I never asked for it, and it would be stupid to turn it down.

I guess what I'm asking, did any of you feel this way, and how did you get through it? any advice?

    Thanks guys!

  • Whats your worst snowboarding/skiing injury?

Were you trying to progress, or a caught a edge when cruising a normal run?

I broke 2 ribs, and got a mild concussion years ago.. just bombing down a mountain in the backcountry.. after i got off the spine i was just riding on a flat and caught a edge, slammed hard going really fast... just wasn't paying attention i guess.. it sucked.

the first time i tried spinning on a rail was pretty bad too..

Seems like most the painful crashes that happen to me are just stupid things.. when i'm pushing myself I can typically bail and fair out well..

  • Biggest Pet peeves on the mountain?

    1. People who take up the whole mountain, Must they go from one side to the other? ...

    2. People who sit/stand in the middle of the run, or in blind spots

    3. Beginners that go on runs they shouldn't.. (but then again, I'm sure I was guilty of it when I started..)

    4. "Boarder Talk" it makes the rest of us look like unintelligent d-bags.

    5. Singles that jump on the gondola with us when were gonna hotbox it.. (sometimes that's fine depending on the person..)

    6. Lift Nazi's that make you wear that retarded leash, esp if your a regular...

    7. People who snake your line in the Park.. or on natural features on runs.

    8. People who snowplow down the runs.

    9. "Snow Gangsters" ...Wow

    10. Having to lock up your board because you can't trust anyone in Summit County... (Anyone seen a Neversummer Evo with a Pantera Sticker on the front?) .... it was kinda beat up too.. I don't get it.

I hate spring time.. too many people. I think im only going on weekdays now!

  • 2867 dollars for a last min flight for a death in the family...?

I'm 3000 miles from home, and my company won't pay for it. 2867 dollars for the flight alone, spending roughly 500-600 dollars on the trip (Food, hotels, etc...) and losing 2200 dollars in wages. (I'll be gone the the entire week I'm sure.

I heard some airports offer cheaper fares if you have a death in the family? This is a grandmother with a different last name (She re-married) and how hard is it to acquire a copy of a death cert?

... Not so sure I would feel right about asking for one either.

  • Ever been on a derailed ski lift like what happened in Sugarloaf today?

In 14 years of snowboarding I've only had issues a couple times, but it wasn't seemingly a big deal. my local mountain has one ancient lift. I try not to think about it everytime I get on that rusty POS.

Hope those six skiers came out ok!

    6. Lift Nazi's that make you wear that retarded leash. (That's why I didn't buy a season pass at my home mountain, It sucks there anyway.)

    7. People who go through the park without hitting features.

    8. Beginner skiers/snowboards who ruin the powder on chutes/runs (Yes.. they both do it..)

  • Have you ever hit a skier or snowboarder on the hill?

I did for the first time last week...

some damn skier on a double black, really steep chute going back and forth across the entire mountain... I had his pattern read, then right as I pass they go clear over where, getting out the pattern. I wanted to f**king deck the guy.

Maybe I'm in the wrong, but I have skier friends that I go with.. they dont take up the whole f**king slope. How to pass those slowpokes? can't they stick to a pattern?

If you can't handle the run, stay off of it!!

There is no reason to go that slow on a run that steep. it's stupid.

  • Help!! I've been single to long... What's wrong with me?

    -The Problem...

To be perfectly honest.. I've never really been in a relationship, sure I've had a few flings here and there that lasted a few weeks to a month but that's really about it. I don't think there is anything wrong with me really, I'm a little shy but not that bad.

    -My Lifestyle

I'm a decent looking guy, 27 years old. I'm 6'0 and hit the gym 5 days a week. I travel quite frequently for work, away from home 3-6 months at a time. I have been doing this since Highschool, so I never really get to know any women to well. I'm off maybe 2-3 months a year typically in the winter and I spend that time just travelling around snowboarding.. basically I turn into a ski bum for the winter. I don't have very many friends either.. just like 2 or 3 close friends I've known forever.

I have no drama/baggage around me, and I love having a good time. life is to short, but I would like to spend it with someone eventually.. I think I have quite abit to offer.

I'm an uneducated construction worker, I have 2 cheaper homes that I rent out. I live in hotels/cheap apartments when I'm working. when I'm off I just stay with friends or family or just travel around and see the country. I'm pretty liberal when it comes to politics, I love active sports and i'll try anything once.

I would like to go to college one day, but it's getting a little late for me I think.. It seems my job really screws up my social life, but it could just be my shyness around women. I'm not much of a drinker, I will go have two or three beers after work to hang out with friends/co-workers but that's it. I hate the entire club scene. I smoke weed when I'm snowboarding, but it's only when I'm off work and having a good time. other than that I have no bad habits, and that is by no means a habit. it's having fun a couple months a year.

It's hard to go from making 110K a year to maybe 35K a year if I get a job at home. I don't know if I could do it. It wouldn't be all bad though, Sick of working my *** off at 100 hours a week 2500 miles from anyone I know.

So does my lack of experience throw up some red flags?

How do I put myself in the market?

Sorry for the long rant.. Just sitting in the hotel room feeling sorry for myself, its a windy/rainy day I'm allowed =)

  • Whats a good career for me? ... Think I might start school at 27.?

I'm 27 years old, and I'm going to go back to college next year. I currently work in the construction field. I'm an apprentice electrician and I've been traveling around working (20 states and 3 countries in the last 9 years) I have a house paid off and rented out, and about 800/month in other bills (Phone, Truck payment, Apartment)

I make about 100k a year now, but the job is quite taxing. I enjoy active physical work, but I would like it to be a little more technical/challenging, without the traveling! Could I afford to move home and go to college/trade school? I was thinking of perusing an Electrical Engineering degree.

I can maybe get a 10 dollar an hour job at home and I have to option to live with my folks if needed.

(I'm not against that.. I've lived a cultured life and I'm not ashamed to live with the folks if it helps!)

What hoops do I have to jump through to find out more information on starting school (Out of the loop sorry!) any links you would have would be wonderful, thanks!

Dream job: Higher end job at a Ski Resort (Electrical maintenance lead, etc..)

I'm planning on doing quite a bit of snowboarding this year.. I'm laid off and gonna stay with my buddy who lives by keystone resort..

I've been snowboarding for 4 seasons, I'm pretty decent.. I can go down pretty fast, and I hit a few jumps here and there.. I've got a burton bullet now, I don't care for it much.. it's to heavy and big.

  • My company is asking me to work in Canada illegally.. Can I quit and still get unemployment?

    ... Without to much trouble?

I'm sure they won't hire me back if I deny going there.. or they will and later fire me for somthing dumb out of spite.

I love my job, but I'm not going to risk being banned from Canada.. Whistler/Blackcomb is my favorite place to vacation.

They have known about this job for 6 months, and they want me to go up there and say I'm on vacation, when really I'm going to run a job.

they said I could go up there and call it a Business Meeting.. But I'll be sitting in an office basically running a job?

(I filled out forms they gave me for a work visa like a week ago... so I know they are not valid)

Does this sound a little sneaky to anyone else?

  • We got a job in Canada...... (details)?

We got a job in Canada...... (details)?

I got to work in Canada (Specialized Electrical Work) for about 2-3 months. I am an American.

4 of us from the company are going up there, and we are going to hire 6 guys (locals from canada)

Yesterday they told me I most likely can't go due to the fact I would need a work permit, and they never got that taken care of when they bid the job (I just found out about going to canada like a month ago)

Now all the sudden today, they tell me I need to be there in 5 days, and I need to just tell the boarder that I'm on a Business trip

Question: What kind of troubles could I get into working in canada without a work permit?

Will I get in trouble, or just my employer?

It's a large scale project with many Americans/foreigners working there, so I'm sure there will be people asking for papers.

Will I run into any huge surprises when I do my taxes? (I will have worked in 4 states and canada)

Thanks if you can help, I'm gonna look the Immigration site, just seeing if anyone has quick answers!

(They had me fill out the apps for a work permit and whatnot, I turned them in 2 days ago.. I'm sure it takes atleast a month for that process)

I want to work, or i'm laid off for a few months... but I don't want any legal issues that I would have to pay for.

    Thanks again
