  • Violinist giving Viola lessons... (anyone familiar with the suzuki books?)?

So, I was all set to give my friend's little sister (7th grade) Violin lessons. However, on Monday, she switched to viola!

I'm going to continue the lessons and I think I'll do ok. I'm going to teach out of the Suzuki books. My question is:

Are the viola books the same as the violin ones? Or are the solos different? (it would be decidedly easier for her to have a viola book, but then let me look out of a violin copy).

Also, how easy is the level 1 book? When I was in 8th grade, I started in the violin book Two, and I don't want to work out of something too easy because she's not a straight up beginnger (3rd year in orchestra).

    Thanks!

  • URGENT FILE RECOVERY HELP!?

Does anyone know if I can get these files back?

I downloaded a lot of video and pictures from my digital camera and opened them on my computer, played with them in Windows Movie Maker and saved the project. Then I took the card out and deleted it all off the camera. Apparently, I didn't SAVE the files on my computer, so they are gone, (including the birthday video). I don't have a memory card recovery program. Is there a way to trace the files through the computer and get them??

    Thanks

  • My California Permit Expired?

...And I lost it. I just turned 17 so I can't bypass some of the stuff.

When I retake my test and get a new permit, do I have to wait another 6 months because I lost my old one?

Also, I have already finished my drivers training, so will I need to track down my teacher to have him sign the new permit, since I lost my old one?

  • Who would you betray?

I just had to write an essay recently concerning who would you betray first, your country or you friend.

I said, and I won't elaborate so as not to influence, my friend--- barring my desicion wouldn't result in catastrpohic destructino or mass death.

My parents were totally opposite. So, it got me thinking. Anyway, what would you do?

(Here's the quote that went with the idea)

" I hate the idea of causes, and if I had to choose between betraying my country and betraying my friend, I hope I should have the guts to betray my country. Such a choice may scandalise the modern reader, and he may stretch out his patriotic hand to the telephone and ring up the police. It would not have shocked Dante, though. Dante placed Brutus and Cassius in the lowest circle of Hell because they had chosen to betray their friend Julius Caesar rather than their country Rome." E M Forster.

  • How much is a 1934 10Dollar Silver Certificate worth?

I have a good condition, 1934 Silver Certificate 10 dollar bill. With the blue lettering in the front left corner and the seal over the gray word TEN.

Is this worth anything at all other than 10 dollars?

  • Webcomics? (what do you read?)

What webcomics do you guys read? What are some good reccomendations? (funny is great, but ones with storyline seem more enjoyable... 'cept when sometimes the current page is not interesting on it's own)

    I've read:

A Magical Roommate (BEST one out there. Period. Story is amazing, and the art improves)

    -Will Write For Chocolate

    -Nintendo Acres

    -Circle Versus Square

    -Above Destiny

    -Muse Academy

    -Slightly Damned

    -Syzygy (discontinued...*sad*)

Anyways, what do you read online? (not manga, webcomics. I have a LONG list of manga I've read).

  • Godchild? (Who has read it)

    Who's read Count Cain---Godchild?

What did you think of it? I just finished it. I loved it! I wish there was more! How did you feel at the end. I don't know what to think exactly...it's bittersweet.

Also, can someone explain exactly what happened with Riff? I want to make sure I got it right, it was a little confusing.

I loved it all! Cain was wonderful and Mary Weather was so sweet!

  • Most complex/interesting Tragic character?

    In your opinion.

I found Michael Henchard from Mayor of Casterbridge (Hardy) to be such an intriguing character! There were so many sides to him, and I really think he could have lived a better life. He always tried to make up for his mistakes, and he made so many of them!! Look at that alcohol vow he kept!

Anyway, what do you guys think?

  • For those who are going to read the Twilight Spoiler on Monday.....?

Can you guys put "SPOLIER" or something in the question titles. I've seen some questions (one two weeks ago that drove me mad) about some alledged leak or quote of something that was official. They were asking if anyone thought it was true, but unfortuneately, before I knew, I clicked and read.

Anyway, I don't want to have to avoid Y!A for a week...I've decided not to read it.

  • Name 20 Classical Famoud Composers?

How do you guys do on this game? It gives you songs and asks for the composer. Although, you can Tget some by just naming a few popular ones.

I got 10/20. It was fun, thought I'd share.

  • Bar Chords?

I have a guitar, but I can't do a single bar chord. When I place my index finger across, my other fingers seem stuck to it, and unable to bend across to get to the other frets.

Maybe it's my violin playing that hinders me---since your fingers always arched so you're on your fingertips.

Is there any way I can help fix this? Help!

  • Phobos Puzzle (HELP)?

    http://phobos.ramapo.edu/~clabulis

Has anyone played this before and know of SOMEWHERE I could find some answers. I'm stuck on number six...

Anyway, try it and let me know how you do. It's insanely hard---yet strangely addicting.

(does anyone understand "How would a sloth or a bat see "6" as? Spelling helps. Try an anagram solver.") That's my clue for level 6. Which is an empty page with "Title..." on it.

  • Other than Deviant Art?

Anyone know of a place to post anime styled art other than DA?

I was a huge fan and active member of the original Mangarevolution.com and even cried when it closed. Now, the new "Phoenix Project" is dumb and is screening members so you have to be insanely good (not that it matters because no one over there has accepted emails in over two years...)

So yes, anyone know of any cool sites? I miss posting my drawings.

    So, how many for you?

  • Conflict in Novel?

Hey, reaching out for writing help.

I've reached the most unplanned section of my novel---the dead middle. The bit after the introductory problems and escalation and before the climax and resolutions to the main problems.

So, I won't go into the specifics of the story but instead I'll ask a broad question---what is some reasonable conflict?

I'm hoping by leaving this open, I'll have more to work with, and I can tweak your ideas to my plot.

Try to be original, and avoid family problems because my MC's up to her neck with those. Um... I've already had one accident (hit and run actually) and a death. Anything else seems open! Oh, but keep it believeable (no aliens, lol) Thanks in advance, just need a little group brainstorming!

Forgive me if there are any typos, I DO in fact know how to spell and I'm more careful with grammar when I write seriously. ^_^

  • Writing Feedback?

Just looking for some feedback on a short passage I wrote the other day. ^_^

Their eyes met across the room and their perception melted into a molten, swirling puddle of incomprhension. Colors blended together and the deepest, most virbant red---with intensities resmbling the pure, deep blush of life in one's cheeks---transformed into a pale, icy blue refracted from the blackest corners of the room. An intimate, passionate longing passed between them, barreling through the merging passerby like melted butter. Their fingers tingled with the unsatisfied yearning to softly brush the other's cheek or lightly caress their hair. Thousands of memories of tender kisses, of sleeping together in innocence and nothing more, impressed upon their minds and crushed their senses, evaporating the present reality that threatened to invade. Locked in a reverie of days past and sweet dreams yet to come, the ever judgemental public eye faded into nonexistence. Etiquette meant nothing to them now.

  • An odd idea?

This premise was said by a friend of mine. What if we all saw in different color pallets? You learn colors because someone points to the sky and says "that's blue." So, even if we saw different things, we'd learn that a certain color is "blue" All of our "blue" things would match their "blue" things, but we could really be seeing their "red (the color itself)." What do you think of this?

    (hope that made sense)
