  • Can't get legal OS in Thailand for netbook. Any ideas, should I go with a pirated version?

When I bought my Acer Netbook in Thailand at the chain department store BigC it didn't come with an OS. They offered to put on a pirated version of Windows 7 for a small fee. 90% of Thailand's computers have pirated windows on them if you don't know. Well, I didn't want to use a pirated version but up where I am away from the city there are no real versions available. I asked if the local computer guy could put on Ubuntu but he had no idea what it was. His Internet cafe which he makes loads of money off of is all pirated Windows XP. I didn't know what to do. I want to put a legal version of Windows or Ubuntu on but they aren't available. I don't want to use pirated software if possible but it seems like there is little other choice where I am. How can companies like ACER which now sell loads in America be allowed to go on selling computers without operating systems in places like Asia without penalty. They know that where their systems are sold no one has access to legal operating systems. They know that their customers will put on illegal versions of Windows. How can it be wrong to pirate software if there are no other options. I'm not out if the jungle. We have modern shopping centers filled with new cars and all the fast food restaurants etc yet you can't find any place that will install a legal version of any operating system on a computer. A netbook without an operating system is even a bigger headache as well since most users of these cheap computers don't know anything about installing on a new computer as I do not understand this as well. I have two legal versions of Windows from other computers and can install them but this new netbook is a hassle.

  • Why are Thais so afraid of the truth?

Why are Thais so afraid of the truth? Seems like when anyone asks a question that isn't about travel many posters come on Y answers on the defensive? When someone brings out a negative aspect of Thai culture or the nation, immediately that person is attacked by people who say love it or leave it? Not everyone who has gone to Thailand has experienced a wonderful place. Not only do tourists suffer from events there so do the locals. Why get so defensive? Why not let the truth come out if it is the truth?

  • Why do no big corrupt politicians in Thailand go to jail?

Just seems like everyone gets off. Is it because both the left and the right and the unmentionables are corrupt? They all support each other in the end as they all know each other is totally corrupt.

What is your take on this at least decade3s old tradition of free passes for the corrupt(and their ill-gotten assets)?

  • If I want to complain about corruption in my school in Thailand?

If I want to complain about corruption in my school in Thailand who can I complain to? I just think my school needs to be investigated financially. Is there any office that I could send a message to?

On a side note, what do you think about this problem? Is it a problem in the schools near you?

  • Does the Pooyai Baan going on the loudspeaker system bother you?

Right now it is blaring outside and it's hard to hear anything else in the house. First it comes on with one or two Thai songs then the news comes then a song to close it. It's just way way too loud!

What do you think of these blaring news presentations in the villages?

  • Why do Filipinos think they are like Americans?

I am sick of hearing Filipinos say they think they are like Americans. They aren't. Americans are mostly for abortion and condom use as you can see by the laws and availability of both in the US. Only one state doesn't has abortion clinics. Second, ,most Americans are not religious and do not go to church and say praise the lord 24/7. Third most Americans are totally against corruption and breaking laws. That is not the case in the Philippines. And Filipinos are the worst at overstaying their visas in the US. Finally, America takes care of its own people and doesn't believe in large families and no food to feed them. The Philippines has long had an overpopulation problem but Filipinos just can't control themselves and keep pumping out babies 24/7 again. All of these simple traits show that Filipinos are unlike Americans in many ways. So why do Filipinos keep saying that they are something like Americans!

Please if you are one of these people who thinks you are something like an American please explain why.
