  • Does rolled flax seed lose nutrients like ground flax seed does?

I would like to feed my gelding flax seed because of all of the benefits it has. I know that when you grind it up it starts to lose it's nutrients when it touches oxygen. But does that also happen if the flax seed is just rolled?? I'm asking because the feed store closest to me only has rolled flax.

    Thank you!!

  • Heavy donut ring snaffle question....the purpose?

Over the summer my aunt had me use a heavy donut ring snaffle for a little bit of training. I've always wondered why it weighs over a pound. Does the weight encourage the horse to drop its head...? Or is it something totally different?

    That's what it looks like.

    Thx!

  • Will she get used to her boots?

I just bought my horse a 4 pack of smb boots because we barrel race and i want extra support. Shes fine with the front boots and doesn't mind them but she's not too sure about the back boots.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvLxjFXPK7c&feature...

She should get used to them right? I've ridden with them a couple times and after a bit i don't think she cares. Have any of you guys had any problems with your horse not getting used to boots?

    Thanks!

  • Bouncing in saddle at lope....?

My friend is a beginner rider and she has trouble with sitting/going with her horse at the lope. she just bounces. I'm thinking maybe she's holding on with her legs and not loosening up her hips to move with her horse. He's an arabian and she says that hes not bouncy....she just has trouble with bouncing. (riding western if that makes a difference)

Do you have any tips and exercises i can have her do? Or just something i can tell her to focus on when loping. I'm thinking riding without stirrups and maybe a little bit of bareback riding.

Any other suggestions would be awesome.

  • Horse just got shoes (20 characters)?

Hey guys! so my horse just got shoes today and this is the first time that shes had shoes since shes been with us. she has a crack in her hoof so that's why we got the shoes. we only did the front feet because the back don't need them. I game her and was wondering if it would be wise to get bell boots for her so she doesn't pull a shoe? Or will that not happen (and i'm just asking a stupid question haha)? I would've asked our farrier (maybe we can call him today) but he had to go and didn't have time.

    thanks!

  • moving hips during pivot....?

whenever i practice showmanship with my horse he always moves his hip before he starts the pivot with his shoulders. Sometimes throughout the pivot he'll move them too. he does this almost every time. what can i do to teach him that he shouldn't do this? it's his first year doing this so that's understandable, but he's come so far. will i get penalized in a class if he swings his hips just at the beginning of the pivot?

    thanks guys!

  • suggestions (20 characters)?

My mom's horse is 14 and we can't seem to find the right bit for him. he likes to get the shank of the bit in his mouth a lot...especially when he gets nervous. he really likes to chomp on the bit too. we just trail ride with him so it can be quite annoying when he continuously does this. he neck reins and he doesn't need anything very severe. do you have any suggestions of what we can do to help him stop, or even a bit that might help?

He's good with a hackamore, but my mom's preference is a bit.

  • What do u think...(smb boots)?

When you are lookin for smb boots for your horse, are you looking for them for more support or for protection from overreaching (both?)?Second question: do you think that a horse that runs a lot (gamer, runs during workouts) should have boots for more support or not? I would use polo wraps but my horse is small and the wraps look kinda chunky on her legs. Thanks guys!!! (I really hope this makes sense!)

  • new saddle pad (20 characters)?

I've been looking for a new saddle pad for a while since the one that i have is really bulky. I barrel race (if that makes a difference) so something not very bulky and heavy. I would like purple and something thats on the cheaper side. my mom wants a neoprene one so i can wash it off easily but it doesnt matter to me what it's made of. I live in the US

    Thanks!

  • Different kind of feed (20 characters)?

The last two years i've been graining my horse because she has a joint supplement. Lately I've been thinking of changing her feed to something better because as of right now the grain that i'm giving her is sweet feed. Do you think I should change her feed and if yes....what should i change it to?

She does medium to heavy work and this summer I'll be mostly riding her every other day. I game her too if this helps.

    Thx!

  • keep hitting the barrel.............?

So me and my game horse have seemed to gain a problem when practicing. Maybe i'm just being paranoid i don't know. but anyways...when we go around the barrels we have good pockets but right on the way out my knee or something like that hit the barrel and they start rocking. i use my inside leg to try to get her to move over but sometimes this doesnt work. this happens with the first barrel and third....also sometimes on the end barrels on jumping figure eight. she's never done this during a show just during practice but i don't want it to happen during a show. i've been taking it slow but once we speed up it seems like we hit the barrel.

Maybe it's me...i don't know. what do you think?

    Thx!

  • Bit for gaming.............?

So i've been looking around for a different kind of bit for my gamer. she has a soft mouth and right now she's using a tom thumb. She seems to mouth it a lot whenever i use my reins a lot and it just seems like she doesn't like it too much. some of the bits down here are some that my aunt recommended, heard are good, etc.

junior cowhorse bit, sweet six, short hinged port, 3 piece argentine, or any others that you think would be fitting for her.

    Thx!

  • Jumping Figure Eight.........?

Whenever I do the jumping figure eight and me and my horse get to the barrels, she doesn't keep her usual faster pace. She always slows down even when I keep urging her on. It's probably me that's making her slow down; i'm probably not leaning forward and everything...but if it wasn't me....what can i do to keep her maintain speed?

    Thanks!

P.S. I do practice whenever i can and I don't just go speedy speedy speedy all the time. She knows the pattern.
