  • How much should I be feeding my pup?

A while ago I posted a question about my now 9 month old Great Pyrenees pup. She wasn't eating the amount of Puppy Chow recommended, and was therefor underweight.

A lot of you suggested changing her dog food to something better, and so I did. I bought her Blue Buffalo Large Breed Puppy Food.

Well let's just say she liked the first bag, in which I didn't notice any weight gain, but she got bored with it. After purchasing the second bag she would barely eat 2-3 cups a day and was even more skinny than before. After researching the food, I realized it was highly nutritious, but low in fat. Great for other pups, but not for mine.

So I just recently changed her dog food to Iams Large Breed puppy food and giving her pedigree wet dog food with it.

So far she really likes it, and is even wanting more than I give her.

Currently I give her one large can of pedigree wet dog food with 2 cups of dry food. So that is 1 Pound 6 ounces of wet food and 2 cups of dry.

I split the food into two meals 1/2 a can of wet food and 1 cup of dry food morning and night. She is currently 9 months old and I would say around 50-60 pounds. Is this enough food, or should I be feeding her more?

  • Best Puppy Foods Out There?

So I had asked a question about my underweight Great Pyrenees puppy a few weeks, and most of the answers I got was to switch the food I'm feeding her. Right now and ever since I have gotten her ( about 3 months ago) I have been feeding her Puppy Chow. She eats around 3-5 cups a day, which a lot of you had suggested seemed like a lot of food, but not for a puppy of her size and growth rate. The bag tells me that at her age 7 months and her weight at maturity she should be eating 6 to 8 cups a day. I just don't think that Puppy Chow has enough fat and nutrients to help her grow and gain weight.

Right now I added a daily supplement gel called Nutri-Vet Puppy-Vite Gel. It's a high calorie supplement meant for growing puppies, but I want to give her better quality food that even if she doesn't eat the way she is suppose to, she will still be able to maintain a healthy weight.

    1. What are your thoughts on the supplement gel I give her?

    2. What are some good brand puppy DRY foods that I could give her?

    - Blue Buffalo

    - Nutro

    - Wellness

    - Taste Of The WIld

    3. What do you feed your dog? Be honest.

  • Is my pup eating enough?

I got Dori a Great Pyrenees puppy when she was almost 5 months old. Let's just say she was really shy, scared, and SKINNY! The man I bought her from was only giving her a cup of food each night. I don't know how much she weighed at the time, but i could carry her in my arms pretty easily for quite awhile, and she wasn't a small pup. She was almost the size of an adult border collie. If i had to put a guess on how much she weighed then it would definitely be less than 30 pounds.

Ever since i got her, she hasn't been a real big eater. She is now 8 months old and on average will only eat around 3-5 cups a day, most often about 4 cups. On the labeling of her dog food Puppy Chow it says that at her age, and he estimated weight when she is full grown (85 to 100 Pounds), she should be eating anywhere from 6 to 8 cups of dog food. I have tried to make the food more appetizing by adding gravy but she gets bored with it. I refuse to change her dog food, or give her wet food because i really don't want to spoil her or make her an even more finicky eat. Right now she weighs a little over 50 pounds, and has grown tremendously over the 3 months i have had her. Yes she is still a little underweight, but she is strong, playful, and healthy. No she does not have worms or anything health issues.

Should i just continue and allow her to eat what she wants to? Should i be concerned? Is there anything i can do to make her eat more?
