Our office has a network consisting of about 14 work stations which are all connected via a network hub or directly to the router. The problem we are running into is that about every 20 minutes or so the system inexplicably goes down for around 60 seconds and then resets itself and its good for 20 minutes again. A friend of mine suggested that I upgrade the hub to a switch. He thought that this might help the overall performance of the network. My question is two-fold. First, what is the difference between a hub and a switch and second, what brand and design of switch should I be considering?

OK, I understand that RAM is the memory it takes for a computer to perform running functions vs. hard drive which is stored information that isn't in use. As it relates to the body, RAM is the part of the brain that is used to function, walk, talk, blink, etc.--and hard drive is the information that I can recall if I need to, childhood memory for instance, but don't necessarily use on a day to day basis. But where in the whole world does processer speed fit in to the equation? GHz speeds and terms like duel-core are completely without context for me. Can anyone explain it to someone uses computers but knows virtually nothing about them?

Yesterday I was able to watch both quarterbacks in succession. First Matthew Stafford with the Detroit Lions followed by Mark Sanchez with the New York Jets. I have my own feelings about who is likely to become the better quarterback, but I thought it would be nice to hear the takes from other people around the country. 10 points to the best take (as opposed to the opinion that most closely matches my own).

My wife and I are heading to Chicago for a long weekend. We were recently married and this is our honeymoon of sorts. When we have visited in the past we have generally stayed with friends. However, we are looking for something a little more private and romantic and hopefully downtown this time around. I've been checking all the travel sites for hotels. That said, there is just to many to choose from. I need someone with first hand experience that can recommend a great place to stay. Thank you for your help.

With all the political rhetoric, points chasing, and OMG can you believe what she did, do you find yourself disenfranchised by this forum? Or, alternatively do find that this site lends itself a certain amount of entertainment value due to its eccentricities?

I'm a early 30's husband/dad and very limited in the kitchen. I don't make many things, but what I make is always really really good. Which brings me to my question. I'm not just looking for hollandaise sauce, I'm looking for the best hollandaise sauce pretty much ever. My wife bought me an egg poacher earlier this week, and I love eggs benedict, so if ever there was a time to learn how to do it, that time is now. Hope you can help.

I am running an older mac on OS-10.3.9. The mail application is version 1.3.11. Normally when I open my mail the viewer window displays a list of messages in my inbox along with a window that shows the actual message. Today when opened the program, for no apparent reason now I simply have a long list of messages in my inbox and no preview window. I can still click on my messages and bring up a seperate window with the complete message, but I prefer the viewer window the way it was.

I cannot find anything in the mac mail help or within the tool bar to change the viewer window preferences. Can anyone out there help me out?

My wife and I recently had a baby. My first child. She has two children from a previous marriage. I've always been close with them but recently my 11 year old step daughter has been talking about a compulsion to hurt or kill her baby sister. She doesn't want to hurt the baby, but is afraid that she will. She also has said she contemplates suicide. She obviously needs counciling, but beyond that, she has upset my trust in her and broken her mothers heart. She is with us during the weekends, but at this point I am contemplating refusing to take her until she is further diagnosed and or medicated. However, I don't want to drive her further into depression that I suspect stems from abandenment issues. She was not abandened, but her mom has started a new family and now has a new daughter that spends 100% of her time with us. Pushing my step-daughter further away to protect my baby is my instinct, but I'm afraid doing so will only worsen my step-daughters behavior.

My wife and I are celebrating our second Valentines day together. Last year I went all out. White roses, 200 candels, wine, and a fancy dinner waiting for her when she came home.

This year is a little different. We recently (4-weeks) had a baby. My wife is now a stay at home mom, so surprising her is a little harder. Romance in general is a lot harder. Keep in mind, I am not a rich man and send me any suggestions that you might have.

She'll be 8 months pregnant on her birthday and pretty unconfortable. Any ideas of something special that she might really enjoy?

Heard this the other day but I'm really skeptical. It sounds like one of those modern day myths. Either way my fiance wants to know the answer hopefully in the next 80 days or so. She says if its true, tell her what they call it so she can say no thanks.
