  • 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan Transmission Problem?

Replaced the transmission on this van approx. 10K miles ago as well as the torque converter. My check engine light came on and it gave the code P0740-Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction. Around a month ago I started having problems with the transmission not shifting into gear at the speed it usually did. For instance 3rd gear would engage at 45 mi/h instead of the usual 35 mi/h as the engine revved up. I discovered that if I let my foot off the gas it would shift into 3rd gear with varying degrees of success. Now this shifting problem is happening from 1st to 2nd as well as from 2nd to 3rd. At some points when I drive uphill the car will start shaking and at low speeds shut itself down. To drive around town I have to place the car in 1, and even at this setting the car will also shake starting from a stop, and then I change to D once I reach 35 mi/h. Sometimes I would step on the gas and the car would not accelerate, and flooring it solves the problem most of the time. When I get to a stop on D I have to bring it to N or 1, since the car starts shaking at around 15 mi/h and shut down afterward.

A mechanic told me that given the symptoms and the code, it’s very likely that the problem could be caused by a shift solenoid. Is it possible that this is the problem, or are other problems that could be causing this?

  • What happens when someone abandons their home?

My grandparents are retired, they get their SSA checks every month, and food stamps. Currently what they receive is enough to pay for bills, mortgage, credit cards, and other expenditures; in other words, the income they receive is enough to get them by. Over the last couple of months they've been thinking about leaving their house for good. They refinanced the two mortgages they had on the home mid-2010 and were able to avoid doing this for a while. As I've mentioned before, they are not running short on money. Eventually they made up their minds and decided to leave the house once and for all to live with their son who offered them a place to live. There are several reasons for this decision and I feel that they are not relevant to what I'm asking.

    My questions are these:

    - What will happen to the house once they are gone and stop paying the mortgage? I will assume that foreclosure will inevitably happen, but what concerns me is that they are not physically there to answer any questions or to meet with anyone or reply to any letters/phone calls. I want to know if there is a special kind of foreclosure that deals with cases like these.

    - Can it affect them legally in any way?

    - Who will take possession of the property?

    - From some research I did online on bankruptcy it became obvious that they were not suited to receive the discharge since their financial situation is relatively stable, but I want to know if this could be an option to relieve them of their home and other debts without having to just quit living in their home.

By the way, the property is in Clayton County, GA.

  • WD software vs. Windows 7 Backup?

I recently purchased a WD Passport 750GB to backup my computer files. I was wondering if I should use WD's backup software, or Windows 7 Backup.

I've done some research on WD's software and they are pretty much negative all over the place. I have also installed the software on my computer, but I hate that it's always on and chugs down resources like crazy!

So which is better in your opinion, WD or Windows 7 Backup?

  • Deliver of big packages to an apartment complex by USPS?

I'm about to receive a large microwave oven sized package by USPS. I live in an apartment complex where we have mail hubs with slots, and large lockers for larger deliveries. The thing is that the package will not fit into this locker, and I was wondering if the mailman will deliver it to my doorstep, leave it at the lease office (this is what the Fedex/UPS guy does when I'm not home), or if he will leave a note telling me to pick it up at the local post office.

  • How much does a Cornetto cost?

I was planning to play the cornetto, or cornett (curved oboe looking instrument with a small trumpet mouthpiece), on an early music ensemble during the summer, but unfortunately the funding for this ensemble ran out and they had to stop all activities. As a token of grace from the founders they told us that we could keep the instruments that were assigned to us with no strings attached.

I took the instrument home and have kept it in the closet for around a month and I don't know what to do with it. I'm not really interested in learning how to play it since I have lost my interest in early music. I was wondering how much do these cost in the market.

The only info I can give you is that it has a engraving on it that says:

    Christopher Monk

    Pat. No 1209817

    Thanks for your advice.

  • Speed up Residence Application?

My grandma, who is a US citizen, sent out an application for residence (form I-130) for my uncle and his family (wife & only child) about six years ago, but they still have not received a reply from the INS, other than a receipt and a form saying that the case has been transferred to the California Service Center. The initial letter said that "it usually takes 990-999 days from the date of this receipt to process this type of case." Well more than 999 days passed since.

The family is from Peru. They entered the US legally before the application was sent. They are desperate because their son will not be able to go to college after finishing high school because he is an out-of-state student to the school, he cannot apply for financial aid, and scholarships are extremely limited. Is there a way to speed up this tenuous process?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

  • Do you believe the Swine Flu outbreak is a form of depopulation?

So far the fatality rate of the Swine Flu virus in Mexico is about 10% in confirmed cases. Doctors in Mexico are saying that the flu medication they are provided with doesn't work with this virus. So far no deaths reported outside of Mexico, and all people who got sick outside of Mexico improve in their condition after they are given treatment. Do you believe this strand of flu was created to depopulate Mexico? If so, by who?

  • How do I remove tape residues from my window?

My passenger's window somehow started dropping during a storm, and I had to pull up on a gas station and use packing tape to prevent the window from dropping any further. Two weeks after this I got the window fixed, but some of the glue on the tape didn't want to leave my window.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Why is my college of choice taking too long to give an admission decision?

I have sent my application back in Oct. 08, as well as all the documentation they asked me to send. I check online on a daily basis to see what is the status of my application and have not seen a change since about Nov 08 (it just says "Complete ready for review").
