  • Why are my pupils so dilated?

I know people have always told me my eyes were big and my pupils were large, but I didn't know it was a characteristically negative thing (associated with drugs). In a normally lit room, my pupils are definitely more dilated than any of my peers, and I would really like to know why. I do have vision problems which might contribute to this.

    Some info about me:

    1. I do not do drugs.

    2. I wear hard (semi-permeable contact lenses). Sometimes my eyes look a little red/bloodshot, but usually I think it is due to being tired/contacts drying out.

    3. I am very myopic (I think I'm like a 7 or 8? maybe around that range) and I have astigmatism in both eyes.

My pupils still constrict normally in a bright light source (outside, looking up at lamps), but for some reason they are gigantic in normally lit places. I looked on the internet but they either tell me I'm in love or on drugs, two conclusions which are definitely not the case.

    Thank you!

  • It really hurts to swallow -- help!?

Today, during class, I went into a coughing fit. It really came out of nowhere; I did not choke on anything, I was not cold, it was very normal. However I did open a book and my imagination has led me to believe that some dust or whatever from the book made me cough, and now it really hurts to swallow... am I sick? What is this? I feel fine, though.

  • How do I get pictures off of the Blackberry Curve?

I've looked at many articles and the problem is that the curve I used to take pictures is not a functional phone -- there is no SIM card or "media card" as it seems like a lot of the other methods use to get the pictures.

How do I get the pictures off of this phone? I plugged it in with a USB cable and it said that it recognised the phone and that the device was "installed and ready to use", but when I open the disk drive in My Computer, it asks me to insert a disk.

Please help me! It's really important that I get these pictures. :(

  • Why was JFK (and his administration?) referred to as Camelot?

I came across this reference in a book I was reading but it didn't really offer any explanations to why. Any clarification is appreciated.

ALSO, if you know anything about the El Salvador Civil War, there is another question I'd love for you to help me with. Just look at my profile. Thanks. :)

  • Calculus -- Cross Sections Help?

I'm not sure how to approach the following problem:

The base of the volume is a circle centered at the origin with radius 5. The cross sections perpendicular to the x-axis are:

    g. Isosceles trapezoids with 60 degree base angles.

The problem sounds almost a bit arbitrary for me.. first of all, which base of the trapezoid is lying on the circle? And what is the height of this trapezoid, anyway?

Please try to explain this to me!

    Thank you! :)

  • I need the name of this serial killer I saw on the Discovery Channel or something?

A couple of years back, I remember watching a documentary -- maybe it wasn't the Discovery Channel -- about a man in the middle of nowhere, basically, who killed people and hung them in his barn as if they were game animals. And when the people came to investigate, there was a paper bag, and they opened it and found it was someone's face skinned off. This has been bugging me for a long time and so if anyone could tell me the name of this guy or show me the documentary, that'd really put an end to my nerves. Thanks.

  • What are some good SAT practice books?

I just got my SAT Reasoning scores back and I think they're all right, but now I'm looking for a way to improve them. I've done every practice test on the official SAT book from College Board and am now looking for other books that would help push up my score. Any recommendations would help, and it'd be great if you could give me a brief overview of what the book covers.

I'm looking to improve on all areas, but especially reading comprehension and writing.

    Thanks! :)

  • SAT math problem help, please?

A flock of geese were being observed continuously. At 1:00 PM, 1/5 of the geese flew away. At 2:00 PM, 1/8 of the geese that remained flew away. At 3:00 PM, 3 times as many geese as had flown away at 1:00 PM flew away, leaving 28 geese on the pond. At no other times did any geese arrive or fly away. How many geese were in the original flock?

I'd really like a step by step explanation, as I understand the problem but do not know where to begin.

  • Related rates -- particle moving around an ellipse?

A particle is moving around the ellipse 4x^2 + 16y^2 = 64. At any time t, its x- and y-coordinates are given by x(t) = 4 cos t and y(t) \ 2 sin t. At what rate is the particle's distance to the point (2,0) changing at any time t? At what rate is the distance changing when t = pi/4?

  • Rectilinear Motion help?

I'm having trouble with this one problem:

A particle starts at time t=0 and moves on a number line so that its position at time t is given by x(t) = (t-2)^3(t-6)

    a) When is the particle moving to the right?

    b) When is the particle at rest?

    c) When does the particle change direction?

    d) What is the farthest to the left of the origin that the particle moves?

It would be extremely helpful if you could provide some explanation, as I'm having trouble grasping this concept. Thank you!

  • related rates question?

Let A be the area of a circle of radius r that is changing with respect to time. If dr/dt is constant, is dA/dt constant? Explain.

    also, a similar question:

Explain why the rate of change of the volume of the sphere is not constant even though dr/dt is constant.

    Thanks!

  • My sound on my computer is being really weird?

I have this weird problem where SOMETIMES the sound works, and sometimes the sound doesn't. This problem is usually resolved by me restarting my computer, and then the sound works fine again. I leave my computer in power save mode.. is this affecting the sound any way?

When I try to watch videos when the sound doesn't work, it starts skipping really fast until the end. Usually this doesn't bother me but lately I've been having to restart my computer multiple times in a day just so I can get the sound to work. Does anyone know what is happening and how I can stop it?

  • How do I simplify this equation?

I guess my Algebra skills are weak.

    I differentiated [(s^2-1)^5/2] (s^3+5)

    and reached (s^2-1)^5/2 * 3s^2 + (s^3-5) * (5/2[s^2-1]^3/2 * 2s)

How do I simplify the rest? The answer is s(s^-1)^3/2(8s^3-3s+25)

  • MLA formatting help?

I need to quote the following:

"Jekyll," cried Utterson, with a loud voice, "I demand to see you." He paused for a moment, but there came no reply. "I give you fair warning, our suspicions are aroused, and I must and shall see you," he resumed; "if not by fair means, then by foul - if not out of your consent, then by brute force!"

"Utterson," said the voice, "for God's sake, have mercy!"

"Ah, that's not Jekyll's voice - it's Hyde's!" cried Utterson. "Down with the door, Poole."

How would I quote this? I know that you use block quotes for things that are more than 3 lines, which this is, but how would I separate the different paragraphs in the essay?

  • I dropped my cell phone at the beach...?

I have a Motorola Rzr, and yesterday, it came out of my pocket at the beach and was soaked. Luckily, I saved it. I took the time to dry it out and get the sand out from anywhere I could. My friends say that it should work fine (one of them put a cell phone through the laundry once and the other even SWAM with it) but I made the possible mistake of attempting to charge it even though it wouldn't turn on. It got really hot a couple of hours later so I quickly unplugged it and then disassembled it (took the battery out).. what can I do now?? Will it work or should I just look into getting a replacement? :(

  • What is the proper technique for marching bass drum?

I auditioned to play bass drum for my school's marching band but the instructor said that my technique wasn't that great. I think I've been improving the past couple weeks but I guess I haven't got it down correctly. Can anyone please thoroughly explain the technique for hitting the drum and perhaps show me a video or something? It would help so much, thanks.

(Also, I have a problem with marking time, too; he says that it's "all over the place" How can I improve on this as well?)

  • Why isn't he calling?

So I've just sort of met this guy and he's really nice and all, and he seems a lot more into me than I am into him (I'm kind of new with this whole "dating scene", if you will), but I notice that every time he says he'll call me back, he never does. And it isn't the first time that's happened, but it's been happening for a while. Should I be worried or is this just guys forgetting things again? He always seems fine when I talk to him, so I figure if he was trying to avoid me, he wouldn't spend so much time and effort talking to me, so I'm kind of confused right about now.

    Any advice is appreciated, thanks!
