  • Should I take my daughter's settlement money to pay our bills?

Several months ago I had just picked up my daughter from work and on the way to church (Easter Weekend) we were in a hit and run accident and my car was totaled. I'm currently unemployed and looking for work but 25 years ago I went into the field of customer service since the jobs were plentiful. Now-a-days, a money can answer the phone and process an order considering that most of those jobs went overseas. I decided to go back to school to work on a criminal justice degree and hopefully a better career.

Well, back to the story. Now that me ad my wife are down to one income and one car she's tired of footing the bill al by herself. I was paid for my car since it was paid off and I'm going to use that to replace my car. Both me and my daughter sustained injuries in the wreck and our attorney is working on getting us a settlement from our insurance company. Right now my daughter is looking at pocketing a little more than $1300. She's 16 so the only thing she's thinking about is shoes and clothing. My, no total has been given yet on my settlement but what ever I get is going to replace my car. Well, my wife told me today that she's tired of doing this all by herself and she thinks that when my daughter gets her money we should use it to help her pay the bills. I totally think that's wrong because it's not my daughter's responsibility to pay rent, lights, water, etc. My wife thinks I'm not trying hard enough to find a job and that I should make someone hire me. She told me that I don't have enough hustle. Well, it's hard to get a second look from an employer when you're 43 years old, been out of work for months, and can't compete with a 24 or 25 year old in the job market these days.

Now back when my wife's 17 year old son was working I suggested that he give her some money to help her with gas in her car since she was driving nearly 24 miles one way to take him to work but she said that he didn't need to do that. But now that my daughter is getting a settlement from a car wreck she needs to help out with the bills.

    Am I wrong here?

  • Should I not use my new ipad in front of my wife?

Lately me and my wife have been having this issue over a laptop. We're both in school and we normally get a refund back from the unused portion of our financial aid. We had both talked about getting an ipad to take to classes because our laptops can get heavy with trying to carry our books and things. Well, she found out that she's not getting a refund because she was at another college a few years ago taking some online courses and she got bored and dropped out. That was financia aid that she wasted and never paid back. Well I told her I was still getting me one with my refund alond with doing some things aroud the house like pay some bills and buying us a new washer and dryer. Well, when she heard that she got angry. I told her I'd look into buying her a smaller tablet like a Kindle Fire or Nexus 7 but once I counted up everything I wanted to do I couldn't afford her tablet. We argued about it because she said I'm always making promises to her to buy her things but never do. I look at it this way. I'm buying a new washer and dryer, taking the kids school shopping, paying some bills and all I want is an ipad but I don't do anything for you? She then says she's fine with me buying myself the ipad but she doesn't want me throwing it up in her face by showing her things on it. Even if I'm sitting there looking up things on it she's gonna think I'm throwing it in her face. Should I not use my ipad while she's around or simply not pay a bill and get her a tablet just to keep her happy? Again, I didn't mess up her financial aid, she did when she dropped out of her other school and didn't pay it back.
