  • What are your zodiac characteristics and your affinities?

I do not mean just your sun sign and the usual "dating compatibility" stuff... too basic and uninteresting.

    To give my own example:

Sun sign Cancer with Aquarius rising, Moon in Leo

    Dominant elements: Water & Fire

    Dominant planets: Moon, Mars, Pluto

    My personal observations:

-I get along most easily with other Water signs (Scorpios in particular fascinate me, then Pisceans and Cancer).

-Also many of my friends are Aries or Sagittarius who happen to have plenty of water in their birth charts.

-I struggle the most with people who have Earth as dominant element.

  • How can one get closure from past crushes, unburden oneself of 'residual' feelings?

Has anybody ever had experience with such a situation before? You fell in love with someone during high school, but kept it to yourself (because busy with studies, having concerns of your own with adolescence and you thought your crush wouldn't fancy you anyway).

After high school both of you move on and you pretty much forget. Then later in life (that is 10-12 years later), you come across them again... and realize it was not just some crush, that you may still have feelings for that person, feelings you have never experienced for anybody else.

Feeling very confused, not quite knowing how to deal with it all.

  • Does a Masters degree really give you an edge compared to a Bachelor?

I'm doing a Masters degree in Business right now. While the topics we are studying seem highly interesting, I can't help having doubts as to whether this degree will help me in the job market compared to someone who has only a Bachelor's degree (in the same or similar area). Also I wonder if it's worth it compared to the huge amount of money invested.

Is it wise to invest such time and effort in an additional degree? Does it really reap rewards (in terms of access to jobs and income) down the line? Do employers take you more seriously? I would like to know what your experience was.

P.S: I also have around 2 years of work experience in my field, so I'm not the sort of person who's always spent their time at university without testing themselves in a job.

  • UQ or QUT? Same degree, which one would you rather attend?

I've applied to the University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology for a Postgraduate degree in Business and Marketing. Both universities have made me a conditional offer of a seat.

Originally UQ was my first choice but it turns out that the fees they charge are about $6,000 higher than QUT's per university year, which amounts to $12,000 for 2 years. I understand that UQ ranks higher in several rankings based mainly on research facilities, but I'd like to obtain information about other comparison factors.

I'll be doing a Coursework program so research facilities are not really relevant to my choice. Rather I'm more interested in graduate employment prospects and the learning environment both universities have to offer. Both seem to have great campuses but what about the academic staff, methods of teaching, etc.?

Put simply, my question is: would you opt to attend QUT and potentially save $10,000-12,000 on fees, or pay UQ's higher fees because of its greater reputation and prestige? Many thanks.

  • How do I know if the girl's interested? She trying to convey a message?

There's this girl who is one of my colleagues at work. She always used to greet me and sometimes even try to talk to me (I would rarely do the same as I'm rather shy to say the least). Never paid much attention to her until I noticed that she's quite good looking, kind and helpful too. And since I noticed that it's been a roller coaster ride... some days she'll greet me or smile to me (but I am under the impression she does so with all guys in the office), some days no.

Then since the beginning of this week she more or less began to 'snub' me, no longer saying 'hello' looking my way when walking past... she's been bearing a rather unhappy look on her face too.

How should I interpret this behaviour? Or should I give it any attention at all?

It's a delicate situation for me because I have a rather private personality and can be sickeningly shy at times. Furthermore, I intend to leave the company we both work for before the end of the year and go abroad. And the last time I ever admitted to a girl that I liked her without being certain that those feelings were reciprocal, it ended very badly. All this makes me highly hesitant to take a first step so I've become very passive.

Any comments/advice? Thanks, and please no disparaging remarks because I'm already feeling silly enough over this story.

  • How would you react if your girlfriend kept asking money from you?

I’ve been in a distance relationship with a South-East Asian girl for the past few months now. I’m quite bothered about the fact that she asks me to send money to her every 2-3 weeks. I would like to know what you would think and do if you were in my place.

    A few things:

-We chat about 2-3 times a week. Whenever I’m about to send her money or I’ve just sent her some, she sounds very happy. The rest of the time, she’s always sad and moaning about something.

-It often happens that when I want to speak to her, she’s not online and claims she’s busy. But then when she is in need of money, she somehow always finds the time to chat.

-She always seems to come up with some good reason to ask for money from me: Christmas, her birthday, New Year, paying her tuition fees, wanting to buy a laptop and even… her grandma’s death! When I tried to verify the story of the grandma’s death, she bluntly refused to provide evidence. Said that she didn’t owe any explanation and that I didn’t want to help her.

-She’s still a university student and most likely has never had to work full time or live on her own so far in her life, whereas I have. I’m afraid she isn’t fully aware of how difficult it is to earn a living and manage your budget. She seems to believe that, whenever she needs money, I just have to go print some dollar notes and send them to her.

-She does not seem to appreciate the efforts I’m making to help her. Instead she chooses to complain about the money I’m not sending her rather than be grateful about what I’ve already done so far.

-Worryingly she seems to have developed a sense of entitlement and expects me to send her some cash at least once a month. In one of our recent conversations she talked about “my allowance”.

I do try to understand that she comes from a humble background and needs some form of financial support. However the fact that she feels comfortable asking for money without having any qualms makes me uneasy. I for one would feel very embarrassed to ask for money from anyone else besides my parents.

I’ve asked my mother what she thinks of this. She also comes from a very poor background. Yet she told me that she wouldn’t ask a single penny from my father even when they were formally engaged. Not only she wouldn’t request for money, but she would refuse outright when my father would suggest that he’d give some to her.

Please tell me what you think of this situation. Would be grateful if you could avoid any knee-jerk reactions and ill-advised judgements! Thanks.

  • How are Paris Saint-Germain perceived in English-speaking countries, and elsewhere?

I lived in Paris for a while and have been following Paris Saint-Germain since I was a child. I know the French football (soccer) league doesn't have much appeal outside France, but I'm under the impression that PSG do get some attention even in English-speaking countries, ahead of more successful sides like Lyon or Marseille. That was even before the club was purchased by the Qatar people.

    Why I'm claiming that:

-various blogs/comments on the internet about the club, including very positive reviews of their continental performances in the 1990s (winning 3-0 at Celtic, the two memorables fixtures against Liverpool in the 1996-97 Cup Winners' Cup)

-many people seem to remember the successful PSG of the 1990s better than Marseille

-the famed atmosphere of the Parc des Princes

-the fact that several PSG greats (Ginola, Weah, Leonardo...) went on to achieve more legendary status at their subsequent clubs

Can any one of you confirm or deny this? How do you perceive Paris Saint Germain and, if you follow the club, why do you do so? Thanks.

  • 1980s music lovers, what do you think of the bands Cock Robin, Boy Meets Girl and 'Til Tuesday?

Can Cock Robin and Boy Meets Girl be considered as new wave acts? Why/why not?

These questions are meant mostly for US listeners. I'm asking because I find it hard to understand why those acts didn't enjoy more success in the 1980s.

In a nutshell, they did everything that other more successful artists did at the time, and they did everything right, if not better than others. When you listen to their songs, they are well written and endowed with nice melodies, which is basically what I look for in a song. So why did they meet with such indifference, especially in their native U.S? Did they arrive on the music stage too late? Anyone can explain in details? Thanks a lot!

P.S: Cock Robin have still got following in Europe, I lived there for 3 years and it was there that I discovered their songs (and those of the other artists I mentioned as well). In 2009 or 2010, Peter Kingsbery and Anna LaCazio appeared on French TV. Kingsbery is a class act, he's got a great voice and has a good mastery of the French language. LaCazio still looks as youthful as ever in spite of being almost 50!

  • Why is the unemployment rate in France always much higher than in the rest of Europe?

And by "rest of Europe", I mean not just the UK but even countries with poorer economic records than France, such as Italy.

I have some explanations in mind (attitude of French companies towards graduates, etc.) but would like to know yours. In May 2009, an article in the Economist claimed that France was resisting the financial crisis better than most countries; just two months later, unemployment had risen to 9.4%, compared to 7.9% in the UK, which had supposedly been more affected by the crisis.

  • Is there any industrialized country in the world which is devoid of youth gangs?

I live in a small insular state and am worried about the emergence of gangs with the economic development of the country, which seems to be a very one-sided development, leaving out so many people who end up forming gangs.

What is the extent of the problem in your own city/country? Do you have any personal experience of youth gangs?
