  • Why does a certain clip go black and silent on windows movie maker?

Okay, I've had this very strange problem with windows movie maker. What I'm trying to do is replace part of a clip with a different version.

I started off by just sticking both clips on the timeline. They played perfectly.

Next I cut out the part of the first clip that I wished to remove. Again, no problem.

Finally, I moved the replacement clip into the middle, so that it should in theory play as one continuous movie.

Instead what happens is that the clip will play normally up until it reaches the part I spliced in. Then the screen goes completely black, and the audio goes silent. Once it's through "playing" the part I spliced in, the ending part of the original video plays normally.

To put it another way, I split the first video into parts 1, 2, and 3. Next I removed 2. Finally I put the new clip in place of number 2. When I play the preview, the cursor runs through the whole thing as though it's playing fine. But what happens is that 1 plays normally, new clip "plays" black and silent, and then 3 plays normally.

Both files are wmv. I went into options and unchecked all of the compatibility boxes, and this didn't fix the problem.

My computer runs on Windows Vista.

ALSO - If anyone knows any way to make the jumps between clips more seamless, could you tell me how?

  • Alternatives to the JET program?

I'm interested in becoming an ALT in Japan after I graduate (theoretically) this summer. Given JET's standards, I don't think I'll make the cut, so I was wondering what other options there are, especially considering the unusual time at which I'll be graduating.

  • Can I get help with my Firefox settings?

I used to have Firefox, but then I lost everything on my computer and had to start over from scratch. I downloaded Firefox again, but I'm having two problems.

    1) Before, I could do a Google search just by typing something into the url bar. Now it's doing something called searchqu, which I don't like. How do I change it back to Google?

    2) More importantly, it's refusing to let me change my homepage. It's set on this searchqu thing, and I want to go back to msn like I had before. I've dragged the msn icon to the home button and I've opened 'options' and set msn as my homepage, but it won't remember. It'll acknowledge msn as my homepage at first, but as soon as I close the browser, it resets to this searchqu nonsense.

  • Passed on ipod help, anyone?

My mother upgraded to an iphone and doesn't need her old ipod anymore, so she gave it to me. How do I go about getting rid of her old songs and setting up my own account, synching with my computer, etc?

Basically, how do I start fresh with a used ipod?

btw: she's still keeping her account. Don't know if that matters, but just in case.

  • What's the best place to teach English in Asia?

So I'm interested in getting a teaching job in Asia after I graduate from college in the United States. English is my only language - or at least the only one I'm fluent in.

JET seems to be the best way to go in Japan, but it's pretty competitive. I've searched for alternatives in Japan, and Interac seems to be pretty decent. But just recently, I've gained some interest in Korea, so here are my questions:

Are there any similar programs for Korea?

How easy is it to get a job in Korea as opposed to Japan?

What are working conditions like in Korea as opposed to Japan?

I have epilepsy. Will that be too much of a problem?

Note: I'm looking for something that will let me work for a few years rather than just one, if possible.

  • Alternatives to the JET program?

I want to participate in the JET program after I graduate. The problem is, I've heard it's pretty competitive. So I have two questions:

    1) What other programs could I apply for?

    2) In the event that I am selected for more than one, how would I go about turning one group down? Just say "Sorry, I was offered a better deal." or something like that?

  • Can I get advice for my red/blue deck?

The main premise behind this deck is a combination of drawing cards and damaging red spells.

One of the creatures I'll be using is Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind (let's me do damage when I draw cards). I'll also be using Elixirs of immortality to keep my life high and deck full.

    So here are my questions:

    1) What cards are best for searching my deck, drawing cards, scrying, etc... I'll need the ones that have the largest effect per casting, since I'll be shuffling my deck fairly often.

    2) This deck will be pretty slow, so what cards will be best for defending myself early-game? I'm thinking of using Mazes of Ith. What else should I toss in?

    3) How many of the big important cards (Elixirs of Immortality and such) should I put in? Remember that I'll be able to search my deck and return cards from my graveyard, so it's not like I'll need the absolute max of everything.

    4) Are there any creatures you can suggest that would be especially effective in this deck?

Note that I'm just playing for fun. This doesn't have to be tournament-level.
